Looks nice. Now I need to finally get a digital camera...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 30 December 2004 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm signed up, "giganticmag," though I'm not exactly sure what it does or why.

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Thursday, 30 December 2004 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

now that i have a digicam i should get up on this shit.

I signed up but my camera won't be fixed for a few weeks. :(

Maria's photos are great.

You're all so talented.

Lil' Trick Thug (nordicskilla), Thursday, 30 December 2004 16:24 (twenty-one years ago)

i think im going to use mine as a place to deposit all my cameraphone shots. fyi: the stuff before december is all 35mm, which is why it looks nicer.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 30 December 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

My favorites: T = “FDSC02029,” M = “I am a superficial person,” C = “sandylands.”

I didn’t know this was an “in/out” kind of thing, but I did use it to host a terrible what-you-look-like picture.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 30 December 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

actually, that photo wasnt taken by me. its a polaroid from my friend lauren. i should note that on the page.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 30 December 2004 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the fact that you're in the picture keeps you from needing to explain that.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 30 December 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

sandylands is a remnant from the time when my home town & its neighbour were the main summer holiday destinations of the glaswegian working and lower-middle class. today it's a bit 'in a resort like sandylands, no one is innocent...'

cºzen (Cozen), Thursday, 30 December 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I am going to try to take a picture of every building in my neighborhood in like ten blocks in any direction. Right now I think my neighborhood might be on the cusp of a lot of change.

not necessarily true. i tend to shoot a lot of my own portraits.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 30 December 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

But you'd have to have a super-invisible arm-and-shoulder deal to have managed that one! (Or a timer, okay.)

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 30 December 2004 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

NB I thought my favorites of J's would be the asses, but then dreamy old Archer Prewitt made an appearance.

I really like those 'pinhole' photos (esp. the quality of light.) could you explain how you did it a little, fr the unitiated and stupid.

cºzen (Cozen), Friday, 31 December 2004 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

looks like 110film , but i doubt it

kephm, Friday, 31 December 2004 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

TG's "Cheeseburger Cheeseburger" is fun.

The pinhole pics were made from a homemade pinhole camera. I used a Holga ($20 plastic medium format camera), took the whole lens assembly off, then taped a piece of soda can over the hole, and painted the inside with flat black spray paint. A piece of electrical tape works as the shutter.

David Beckhouse (David Beckhouse), Friday, 31 December 2004 01:09 (twenty-one years ago)

dude no idea what any of that means.

I'm hoping to start building my own 4x5 pinhole cameras now that I've got access to the basic woodworking tools.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Friday, 31 December 2004 01:55 (twenty-one years ago)

TG's "Cheeseburger Cheeseburger" is fun.

thanks david! it was using my 35mm, set at ƒ11. i didnt have a sync cord for my flash, so i just opened up the shutter manually, then used my other hand to trigger the flash and closed the shutter as soon as it was done.

the technique's a bit unwieldly but i managed to get shots that were fairly sharp. im fairly critical of my work but i think these photographs look really fun.

g-kit, Monday, 18 June 2007 14:54 (eighteen years ago)

hmmmm i dunno about that situation. are they just snapshots you took at a party? i mean, i personally am not really bothered by people taking photos of themselves or their friends from my flickr and posting them on myspace to be honest.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Monday, 18 June 2007 14:54 (eighteen years ago)

scroungers need to buy their own camera tho?

it's like going to a party and drinking everyone elses booze

Ste, Monday, 18 June 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)

it's just that i didn't get a credit at all, otherwise i wouldn't care. by all means, LINK to my flickr or something, but DON'T find a workaround for the flickr transparent image thing, download the photo, upload it to your own photobucket and then bandy it around like it's your own image. it's just a matter of politeness/courtesy imo.

g-kit, Monday, 18 June 2007 15:00 (eighteen years ago)

if you wait until everyone has drunk their booze then access their stomachs and copy their booze to your own stomach

-- g-kit, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 09:42 (1 hour ago) Bookmark Link

No, they don't but I'm fine with that. When you post an image in that group you basically agree to let them do anything with them. If you don't like that you don't post on that group.

gee ok sorry

-- g-kit, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 11:06 (6 days ago) Link

i better go remove stuff from groups :(

-- g-kit, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 11:07 (6 days ago) Link

I think that only applies to groups which define their terms like that - i.e. "by joining this group you agree that we can make a big mural on the Falls Road out of yr best pics and not credit you, ya big dummy." In most cases I would've though that yr copyright prevails (in so far as anyone observes that).

-- Michael Jones, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 11:35 (6 days ago) Link

Yeah sorry g-kit, I should have made that clearer, most groups don't have a disclaimer like the BBC one.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 20 June 2007 15:53 (eighteen years ago)

I love flickr but the bods in charge seem to be fcking up the whole censorship thing and being a bit insensitive about it at the same time so I post this in support of All The Germans Who Want To See Rude Bits.

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1309/575026865_c741b27565.jpg?v=0

Ned Trifle II, Friday, 22 June 2007 21:24 (eighteen years ago)

It's not about rude stuff, it's about their laws regarding the use of nazi imagery.

Madchen, Sunday, 24 June 2007 12:05 (eighteen years ago)

Hay guys, how come Aperture is such a huge install?

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 25 June 2007 03:25 (eighteen years ago)

It's not about rude stuff, it's about their laws regarding the use of nazi imagery.

-- Madchen, Sunday, 24 June 2007 12:05 (2 days ago) Link

Well, it's not just Germany. It's Singapore and some other places. I haven't read anything about nazi imagery. All the anti-censorship sites are going on about not being able to access the rude stuff. It's certainly very confusing. What I don't understand is that some people are migrating to ipernity or zoomr but if the problem is with German (or wherever) law won't they all have the same problems?

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 26 June 2007 09:34 (eighteen years ago)

For all that, I have to say I also support Germans who want to see Nazi imagery.

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 26 June 2007 09:39 (eighteen years ago)

Not that I'm supporting Nazis, obviously.

oh man, it happened again. stolen photos. this time by a musician i took some shots of at a gig. i wasn't asked, and i was given no credit. thing is, i'm really proud of this particular shot.
this is starting to make me either not upload stuff to flickr anymore or splash big pawprint watermarks all over them or something.
i also feel like it totally devalues what i do, if that makes sense.
should i say something in an email? it sucks that people are putting me in this position where i feel like an asshole for asking them not to do something they shouldn't. GNNGH.
why, at no point when they are deliberately evading flickr "security" do they not realise that I don't want people using my photos without asking?

Did a search for Storms on flickr recently and was annoyed at the high number of awful HDR photographs people are now uploading. They look dreadful, and are clearly now becoming an excuse for people who are unable to manage camera exposure properly.

Ste, Thursday, 11 September 2008 13:16 (seventeen years ago)

I wish I had been able to get the composition just right and had the flag pole unobstructed but there were too many people and things around to get the right position:
