i don't recall this happening at all last year, in france. although i spent new years with a bunch of germans and hungarians.

last year the metro lines ran on a really weird schedule on new year's, and i was wandering around at 3 AM trying to find a metro station that was open. i went to ask a few people about it, and they all must have mistaken my bad accent for the slurring of a drunk, because they all backed away. i felt like a total pariah. eventually i got home.

ts: "new years" vs. "new year's"

Weird, we did that this morning.

i like this idea though, perhaps i will make a stack of pancakes tomorrow.

new year's eve or new year's day? we certainly do brunch on the latter. and if the former, is it pancakes or blini?
