you guys are nuts, half of these are amazing.

mark p (Mark P), Sunday, 2 January 2005 06:40 (twenty years ago)

Well "bad design" doesn't necessarily refer to how aesthetically pleasing or not something is.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Sunday, 2 January 2005 06:43 (twenty years ago)

Right. Can you imagine having to open the doors of a Delorean to load groceries?

(The Sex Pistols cover is genius design, however. Think of all it communicates! You just know that what's inside is going to be ugly and shitty and not giving a fuck.)

OTM

latebloomer (latebloomer), Sunday, 2 January 2005 07:25 (twenty years ago)

Right. Can you imagine having to open the doors of a Delorean to load groceries?

No. Because the trunk is under the hood. And that's not what a 2-seater sports car is for anyway.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 2 January 2005 07:44 (twenty years ago)

Steve's Starck juicer is the most OTM so far... so ubiquitous, yet it DOES NOTHING - you can't juice anything, the juice just drips everywhere cept where it should.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 2 January 2005 08:35 (twenty years ago)

Practically anything Phillipe Starck or Alessi.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 2 January 2005 08:41 (twenty years ago)

OK so maybe I stretch the meaning of "classic" to be just ALL OVER THE DAMN PLACE. But you get the idea.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 2 January 2005 08:41 (twenty years ago)

The Sex Pistols cover is genius design

oh, i agree, but it's "bad" in the classically academic sense (before art-school got all postmodern and shit).

Turkey versus Eagle, McCauley is my Beagle (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 2 January 2005 08:46 (twenty years ago)

has paris hilton ever eaten a club sandwich in her LIFE? somehow i'm not seeing her being very into bacon and mayonnaise.

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 2 January 2005 12:10 (twenty years ago)

it's a Stark juicer Andrew, based on the Alessi design. Trayce sums up it's technical rubbishness.

Sex Pistols cover technically bad design because of the garish colours, different fonts used that don't really work together.

the DeLorean's doors probably occupy 'more space' as they open - still looks cool tho

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Sunday, 2 January 2005 13:50 (twenty years ago)

nah

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 2 January 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

No. Because the trunk is under the hood. And that's not what a 2-seater sports car is for anyway.

Yeah, it's for going fast, which the DeLorean can't do either (0-60 in something like 10 seconds).

What's this place, Biblevania? (natepatrin), Sunday, 2 January 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

Stinks of piss, haven for vandals, door impossible to open if there's more than a puff of wind.

But Bowie looked cool standing in one on the Ziggy sleeve.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Sunday, 2 January 2005 17:42 (twenty years ago)

Delorean windows don't roll down (except for that little itsy bitsy rhomboid bit in the centre of each door) which makes them useless for cruising (esp. the wind in hair, hollywood city nights kind) plus they are crap in drive thrus. But then I suppose the intended demographic (Znaimer, ha ha?) is above all that.

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 2 January 2005 17:53 (twenty years ago)

Right. Can you imagine having to open the doors of a Delorean to load groceries?

Perfect for loading briefcase-loads of cocaine though.

you guys are nuts, half of these are amazing.

I interpret this thread to mean most importantly things that we like, things that are classic, even though they happened to have what might be considered bad design.

the Gameboy was ergonmically badly designed - there were many reports of people getting achey wrist tendons after playing Tetris for 2 hours solid - the Game Gear was much better designed. also the GB didn't have colour screen and generally a bit ugly i think but with many classic games obv.

Sven Bastard (blueski), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 14:02 (twenty years ago)

goodness tht master system controller ws so awful. you cd get inflammation of the annoyed hand just by looking at it.
