Magnus Birthday Friday Pints

Magnus, who due to his job as a top secret MI5 agent, cannot post directly on to ILX though he is well known by all and sundry, is being older this Friday. And as such he will be drinking in The Blue Post Newman Street (you know it). He would love you to be there if you know who he is to help him celebrate from 7-ish to stupid-O'Clock. (It is more than possible that other punters may arrive earlier but he maybe busy assasinating a foreign dictator).

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

I *told* him I was trying to have a dry January, dammit, but the boy keeps literally *forcing* pints of beer down my throat...

I will definitely be there to help with the ruin.

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

i, unfortunately will not be there as i shall be in MANCHESTER being all excited about football. i'm sure it'll still be good though ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 15:57 (twenty years ago)

Manchester? Football? I thought these things were Verboten on Magnus' thread! ;-)

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

does the blue post open til stupid o'clock?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 16:06 (twenty years ago)

No. But we know nearby Iberian places that do...

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 16:08 (twenty years ago)

Well, it's round the corner from heaven Spain which certainly stays open well past stupid o'clock!

x-post...

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 16:08 (twenty years ago)

It might as well be stupid o'clock if, like me, you intend to be there from five.

The BPNS does have the advantage of The Best Quizzer Ever. I shall get my Lord of the Blings hat ready forthwith.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 16:08 (twenty years ago)

I am going to shut up on this thread now or else I will be in trouble when someone gets home from blowing up Soviet oil installations. ;-)

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 16:10 (twenty years ago)

Oh crumbs. Quiet week, why even bother anticipating it? And the bloody staff swimming pool isn't refurbished yet, so I can't even attempt to remove some of the booze poisons from last week. Heigh-ho.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 16:44 (twenty years ago)

I've decided to just repeatedly tell myself that booze is good for me.

robster (robster), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 16:46 (twenty years ago)

there's archway pool...

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 16:47 (twenty years ago)

I'll be there, of course, and pretty early.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 18:00 (twenty years ago)

::bump::

Oh no, they are trying to make me work on Friday. Don't they know I have more important things to do with my time than look after their databases?

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 09:50 (twenty years ago)

blue Posts Newman Street has the best quiz machine in London too.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 14:46 (twenty years ago)

i think matt's already said that.

another friend of mine is having birthday drinks on dean st, so i guess i'll spend some time there, but i'll be at this for most of the evening i suspect.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 14:47 (twenty years ago)

I have arranged to leave work early on Friday, as this is far more important than my cruddy database. However, I may be wearing a suit.

One One To Rule Them All (kate), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

Albeit, not my Birthday Suit. Although that might be appreciated in a different manner.

One One To Rule Them All (kate), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

quizzers are for saddoes

unless you win some money - in which case, have i told you lately that i don't think you're a saddo at all (and can you buy me a drink?)

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 14:52 (twenty years ago)

sorry i'll be too busy winning real money on on-line poker to come. also i have to take my sister to the airport.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

in case you bet her and lose?

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

she's collecting the winnings.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

an airport

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

Chu International

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 14:58 (twenty years ago)

yes i own the CIA too.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 15:01 (twenty years ago)

did you photoshop them?

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 15:02 (twenty years ago)

Come on, Chu, that's no good, he works for MI5, not the CIA, don't be silly.

One One To Rule Them All (kate), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 15:06 (twenty years ago)

why was he played by Judi Dench in that Bond film?

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 15:15 (twenty years ago)

To fulfill my not so secret lesbian fantasies.

One One To Rule Them All (kate), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

I might even make it on Friday, Herman Düne notwithstanding.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

I don't think the BPNS quizzer is the best quizzer in London. That honour goes to the Champion, my friends, teh Champion!

Starry (hello chickens), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

actually the hog's head on parkway has the best one...

parakeet_esparanto (parakeetesparanto), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 15:47 (twenty years ago)

even though i've only ever lost money in that quiz machine, i'll still come down, hoping that magnus will tell all about his secret double life.

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 6 January 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

Sarah and I will probably be coming down but after a movie and dinner, so quite late then. Have fun everyone!

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 6 January 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

Bumpity bumpity bump.

I'm at work and I'm going to need FAP thead chatter to distract me from the horror of my database.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 7 January 2005 09:38 (twenty years ago)

Right you are then. What time's kick-off? Have to be in king's Cross for 9.45 but otherwise I'm free - well, as free as one can be with two weeks of employment left.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 7 January 2005 09:41 (twenty years ago)

Errr... let's see. Hrm. The email says "ruin o'clock" or rather, "after work" so just come by whenever. I'm sure there will be people there. I'm planning on leaving work early, but I have to get the other half of his birthday present before arriving at the pub.

(Ssshhhhh!!! No, wait, there's no way he can check this before he gets there so I'm safe.)

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 7 January 2005 09:44 (twenty years ago)

Who, apart from Starry, me and Robster, is up for a quick curry after work (6ish) and before pub? I was theenking the Palms of Goa on Charlotte Street, but you know.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 7 January 2005 09:55 (twenty years ago)

Can't really afford a curry *and* a booze up (foolish me forgot to turn in my invoice before Christmas and am now suffering Freelance Hell) right now. :-(

But maybe...

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 7 January 2005 09:59 (twenty years ago)

Palms of G is pretty good value, just saying like.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 7 January 2005 10:03 (twenty years ago)

I'll go if the spy goes.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 7 January 2005 10:04 (twenty years ago)

Pete said last night he's up for some food. We tht maybe Brazil by Kilo on teh Ox?

Starry (hello chickens), Friday, 7 January 2005 10:44 (twenty years ago)

I forgot the most important comment of course:

Schnappi Birthday Magnus!

Starry (hello chickens), Friday, 7 January 2005 10:45 (twenty years ago)

Yes, many happy detournements of the day to the man.

What is this Brazil of which you speak?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 7 January 2005 10:56 (twenty years ago)

It is a newish Brazillian place just on the corner of TCR and Ox Street innit, where they weigh your food and you pay according to each 100g you have on your plate!

Actually this sounds suspiciously like a Pete fib, innit?

Starry (hello chickens), Friday, 7 January 2005 10:58 (twenty years ago)

Weighing your food? Blimey, how cheap! That's the sort of thing they only do in Korean Bodegas in NYC. I'm not down with that at all. If I'm eating, I wants my dodgy dodgy all you can eat Thai cult food.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 7 January 2005 10:59 (twenty years ago)

If Pete was fibbing, he managed to convince Time Out.

robster (robster), Friday, 7 January 2005 11:02 (twenty years ago)

Besides, if eating Brazilian you want an enormous pile of food, not to feel as though you've got to watch it like buying marshmallows at the Woolworths Pick'N'Mix because they're the lightest sweet.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 7 January 2005 11:03 (twenty years ago)

Is there much in the way of veggie fare there? (Yes, I know, so troublesome, me.)

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 7 January 2005 11:05 (twenty years ago)

Well shall we er, go, er, Brazillian then? I get out of here at 5.30 today...

xpost: er no idea about veggie options but Pete did say there was, ergh, SALAD so there's SOMETHING at least :)

Starry (hello chickens), Friday, 7 January 2005 11:06 (twenty years ago)

This is not to say I would shun the POG either - but our office veggie remembers POG not being good at veggie options if we are factoring that in.

Starry (hello chickens), Friday, 7 January 2005 11:07 (twenty years ago)

What this clearly requires is the spy to smack me upside the head and say "Stop dithering, we're eating HERE" which is what is generally required in these sorts of situations.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 7 January 2005 11:08 (twenty years ago)

This Brazilian deal looks OK, but I dunno if there will be a wide veggie choice (as opposed to curry from a largely vegetarian culture) as it's all about the pork and rice and big fat steaks innit? I'm a filthy carnivore so don't mind either way.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 7 January 2005 11:14 (twenty years ago)

i think that sounds like a brilliant way to serve! you'd be surprised how much 100g is on a plate, and Brazilian food sounds great. I'm there.

(xpost) imagine how much salad you could get fo a quid!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 7 January 2005 11:17 (twenty years ago)

RIGHT THEN: anyone who wants pre-beer food, meet outside teh Virgin Megastore (?) at 5.45 and then we'll pop across to Brazil.

How does that sound?

Starry (hello chickens), Friday, 7 January 2005 11:17 (twenty years ago)

w00+

(I have crippled myself by contributing to the BBC h4x0rsp33k thread)

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 7 January 2005 11:21 (twenty years ago)

Brazil? Spain? My goodness, this is starting to sound more like a travelogue than a birthday FAP!

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 7 January 2005 11:23 (twenty years ago)

Methinks someone just found "hacker google" for the first time before starting that thread...

Yay for food. I am ALREADY starving but will steel myself for tonight, yum yum.

Starry (hello chickens), Friday, 7 January 2005 11:23 (twenty years ago)

I have to head home first to drop off some pointless stuff I have to take out of the office so will be there from 7.30ish I reckon.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 7 January 2005 11:24 (twenty years ago)

Duh, I just realised that it said right in the header of the question that it starts about 7-ish. Leaving plenty of time to buy pressies and get food. Do I have time to change out of this stupid suit, I don't know, but having promised suitedness, I feel I may have to deliver.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 7 January 2005 11:33 (twenty years ago)

Hmm... I might. However, I've still not discussed when it is I'm heading back to Leeds (it's got to be either Saturday or Sunday - However, I'm not sure my dad's realised this. Eek.)

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 7 January 2005 12:21 (twenty years ago)

William we will put you on a train after chucking out time. Think of it as an adventure!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 7 January 2005 12:39 (twenty years ago)

Shouldn't it me more like:

William we will put you in Spain after chucking out time.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 7 January 2005 12:41 (twenty years ago)

I was considering putting him, semi-comatose, on the Eurostar, but Spain will do.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 7 January 2005 12:45 (twenty years ago)

There are no trains to our parts of town at that time of night!

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 7 January 2005 12:47 (twenty years ago)

I am disappointed with you lot. It's 3.30 on a Friday before a FAP and there's not 200 new answers. Get moving!

::cracks whip::

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 7 January 2005 15:35 (twenty years ago)

I would love to, but sadly am mired in database quicksand. The upshot is that I have the RAGING THIRSTIES and will therefore be well up for it tonight.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 7 January 2005 15:49 (twenty years ago)

Am I the only living programmer in London who thinks that drinking is far more essential to modern urban living than databases? Clearly!

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 7 January 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

Right. I'm off. See you at the pub! Or maybe I'll stick my head in this Brazillian place and see if it's any cop for veggies...

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 7 January 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

Oh, turns out I am being chucked out of work at 17.00 after all due to COMPUTERS. I will wander round Virgin a bit before meeting foodies.

Starry (hello chickens), Friday, 7 January 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

magnus grabbing my ass while taking a photo of my reaction was definitely a hightlight of the evening.

colette says: krispy kremes, too.
