If you updated your operating system you might find more interesting things to do on your computer.

there is a woman at my work who plays this ALL. DAY. LONG. and everyone knows. people comment on it but no one stirs up trouble. why? she is also the woman who has ten bowls of candy on her desk, refilled to the top every day.

genius.

Haha, I played this on my iPod on the tube on my way to work this morning and felt slightly ashamed for some reason and tried to hide the screen so I could pretend I was doing something more important. Like, eh, flipping through my songs... :-/

The best thing, and the worst thing, about having a Mac is that there is no solitaire on it. I have my life back!

One One To Rule Them All (kate), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 12:10 (twenty years ago)

I have my life back
ILX can take care of that....

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 13:30 (twenty years ago)

Well, quite fortunately, I don't have ILX at home!

One One To Rule Them All (kate), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 13:32 (twenty years ago)

TS: Solitaire vs FREECELL

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 16:43 (twenty years ago)

as an only child, classic.

nb this would be the type you played with ACTUAL CARDS.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 17:03 (twenty years ago)

ok people.. when you complete the game with actual cards, do you also do that cards falling down thing (as depicted in the picture in the first post)? or is it just me?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 17:06 (twenty years ago)

Freecell is dope. I need to find a better freeware one that has Freecell on it.

and yelling at "backseat" Solitaire players should be permitted.

contribute, Wednesday, 5 January 2005 19:38 (twenty years ago)

that cards falling down thing

52 Pick-up?

contribute, Wednesday, 5 January 2005 19:39 (twenty years ago)

F*cking addictive, and therefore le suck.

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 19:54 (twenty years ago)

o.k. people, back off the solitaire. it's one thing i can do at work where i'm on the phone with some suck people and i can play it at the same time. and it is what it's called, solitaire, a game for one. i like that for some reason.

ai lien m. draheim (kold_krush), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 21:17 (twenty years ago)

I always have to remind myself that when one cheats at Solitaire, they're only cheating themselves.

I'm still laughing at this. So, what else has been posted on this thread?

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 21:53 (twenty years ago)

that IS funny

ai lien (kold_krush), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 21:55 (twenty years ago)

one year passes...
Boo-ya. I started playing Spider a week ago and today I beat it on hard.

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Saturday, 6 May 2006 03:50 (nineteen years ago)

Patrick McManus had a column where he said if you ever get irrevocably lost in the woods without human contact, start playing solitaire. Soon enough someone will come along and say, "you can move that nine of diamonds."

Abbott (Abbott), Saturday, 6 May 2006 06:12 (nineteen years ago)

playing solitaire on the computer is kinda boring. playing it in real life, for some reason, feels more exciting.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Saturday, 6 May 2006 10:02 (nineteen years ago)

The best thing, and the worst thing, about having a Mac is that there is no solitaire on it. I have my life back!

http://www.solitairenow.com/mac/klondike.htm

MacSolitaire is boot compared to the Casteel game. Go here, pay the ten bucks for Klondike, which also has Golf, Canfield and something called Racing Demons (that I've never played) in the preferences. It has replay, which MacSolitaire doesn't, so you can keep the same winning game going for days, gradually raising your score to the stratosphere, until you stupidly go command-n-n by accident and wish you were dead.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Sunday, 7 May 2006 13:34 (nineteen years ago)

I have chosen a dainty lilac for my card-backs, against a warm adobe color for the card table. And the speed is ramped up to the max.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Monday, 8 May 2006 12:05 (nineteen years ago)

three years pass...

finally got my win % in spider solitaire over 40% cant believe those ppl that are up @ like 55-60%. seems impossible?

Lamp, Saturday, 13 June 2009 19:56 (sixteen years ago)

On Spider? On Hard? NFW.

Calling from a Balti Hotel (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 13 June 2009 19:58 (sixteen years ago)

yah idk these dudes have scrn grabs and shit. theres a forum i v. occasionally look at where some dude had an INSANE win % and uploaded all the w/e files from windows because no one believed him. ive certainly been surprised by games that seemed outright dead where ive managed to clear the board. apparently a good player should be able to hit 50% which is my goal (lol zing) but that seems a long way away.

Lamp, Saturday, 13 June 2009 20:02 (sixteen years ago)

Okay I must be a terrible player, I assumed it was impossible to win on most hands.

Calling from a Balti Hotel (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 13 June 2009 20:03 (sixteen years ago)

i cant remember the breakdown but like ~20% are easy-ish wins then to get to ~30-35% u have to use some strategy and then beyond that u have to be really good at mapping and a little lucky.

the really frustrating thing in playing the older pre-vista modes is getting to one of the last deals and realizing that a seemingly neutral choice u made in fact closed the board against u. fukken game.

Freecell > Solitare

ti's girl on the outside (musically), Saturday, 13 June 2009 20:11 (sixteen years ago)

freecell is too easy

Lamp, Saturday, 13 June 2009 20:22 (sixteen years ago)

four years pass...

Over a period of several years I've achieved a fairish large sample size of completed games of solitaire - the plain vanilla Klondike version that is included with Windows 7. It appears that I'm near the theoretical maximum win percentage, but I'd like to check that against other results.

Anyone out there have a win percentage above 46.6% for more than 1000 games?

Aimless, Thursday, 7 November 2013 05:39 (twelve years ago)

one month passes...

I'd have to check but I'm sure my Windows solitaire percentage is lower than that and I play draw one. I have better luck with the solitaire app on my phone, with draw three I win half the time.

Btw get the app "250+ solitaires free" if you're a solitaire fan...Great fun trying all the different varieties...I'm partial to Algerian Patience, like reverse Freecell.
