What do you hate about your own sex?

Misogyny must come pretty high. General thoughtlessness, ignorance, territorialism, competetiveness, etcetera etcetera.

Any specific little niggles?

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 16:23 (twenty years ago)

Not enough of it.

(I'll read the question later)

How many have you heard?!

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

Well, je4, it's not necessarily about sex, so here about girls, there about boys.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 16:31 (twenty years ago)

I'm confused.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 16:32 (twenty years ago)

Misogyny isn't nice. But male Guardian reader types who go on and on about how awful men are is sort of creepy, I don't know why.

Self-hatred as fashion is something I kind of hate about everybody. Especially myself.

Not many women on this thread... I know I can't really think of anything I hate about women as a group. I don't like women who are all girly around boys so they get what they want.

i think that women tend to be too critical of each other generally, and are quick to make harsh judgements about other women's choices in career, fashion, parenting, etc. they tend to be more apt to turn on one another than men.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 17:33 (twenty years ago)

Disregard.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

Women can be ruthlessly competitive.

Heheh. Can be.

Right... So, men. I hate that so many men have major crises when their [female] significant other makes more money than they do. It's one thing to be jealous (which I'm not sure men are any more than women) but it's another altogether to justify that jealousy by reasoning that somehow depends on gender.

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 18:01 (twenty years ago)

they tend to be more apt to turn on one another than men.

Sometimes we are thankful for this, because there's nothing more terrifying than a unified phalanx of females with that look of disapproval.

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 18:04 (twenty years ago)

(I put the "[female]" in my answer because I've never known a same sex couple with that issue. Though I suppose it probably happens. I have definitely observed many male coworkers experiencing it. Once a guy I worked with even argued for a raise to his boss that he needed a raise because his girlfriend had just landed a job making something like 10k more a year than he did. If that argument wasn't already ridiculous, it achieved new heights when he delivered it to his female boss.)

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 18:05 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha ha!

I'm only happy WHEN my girlfriend is making more than me. The one time it was reversed, she was furious until she got a raise.

That more of the attractive ones aren't queer.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 18:20 (twenty years ago)

I can't think of much I hate about women, except for when they compete over lame dudes, and get catty, or something like that.

I can't believe no other woman on this board mentioned PERIODS. Or did I just miss it?

It doesn't bum me out as much as it used to, but it really is a totally fucking annoyance.

A higher percentage of us than of women voted for GWB.

Douglas (Douglas), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

i hate when women pull that "helpless waif" shtick. that, and how so many women have been conditioned to believe that certain things (home repair, engineering, computer geekery, hardcore music-collector geekery) are the exclusive property of men and even if they disagree with what i just said they'll ALWAYS call a guy to sort it out when their stereo is busted, or they need new light fixtures installed. whereas guys love doing that stuff themselves; it's a great boost to their ego.

cathy berberian (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 20:15 (twenty years ago)

and i hate how it's really rare to have an intelligent conversation with a woman unless it's about relationships or emotions or something (nb i've met quite a few women where this wasn't at all the case, but by and large it's true). men seem to have a larger arsenal of things to talk about.

cathy berberian (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 20:18 (twenty years ago)

i misread that as "unless its about relationships or emoticons or something" and was quite confused.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 20:21 (twenty years ago)

That more of the attractive ones aren't queer.

yes!

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 20:21 (twenty years ago)

cathy, about not being able to talk to women. i can hardly be friends with them. most of my pals are of the male persuasion and the only females i really care for are my sis and mom. uh, i feel i can't relate to the ladies or i'm a butthole. something like that.

ai lien m. draheim (kold_krush), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 21:10 (twenty years ago)

it's a great boost to their ego

Heheh... I dunno about that. (Though I'm disqualified from the music-geekery one and to some extent the computer-geekery one because my s.o. is a bigger or at least equal geek about that stuff.)

I find that anyone asking for my help (with something I actually do know how to do) and then acting like it's not something they could ever do themselves or even understand is a pain in the fucking ass and annoying as hell. I mean, I'd rather teach you to fish, you know? And if you can't really be taught to fish by one example, then for fuck's sake you could still take a shot at understanding the concept of fishing.

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 21:21 (twenty years ago)

i think that women tend to be too critical of each other generally, and are quick to make harsh judgements about other women's choices in career, fashion, parenting, etc. they tend to be more apt to turn on one another than men.

I hate this as well.
