OMG

For good or bad, Tonya Harding has been the most influential person in Figure Skating history, and in all sports history, second only to Mohammad Ali. There are all kinds of websites pushing the wonderful accomplishments of their namesakes but with Tonya's rebellious spirit and because of the controversy, and without any apologies, this website is dedicated to desires, dreams, and fantasies.

I really do love that site. It's...it's something.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 January 2005 04:59 (twenty years ago)

tonya was my hero

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 6 January 2005 04:59 (twenty years ago)

I mean, you compare this:

"It would be having enough money to go hunting and fishing and go to the big four-wheel-drive mud bogs," [Tonya] says. "And every once in a while put on a really pretty dress and go to dinner at a place like Applebee's or something."

To this:

I enjoy touring with the Tom Collins Champions On Ice Tour and producing new and exciting shows with Jerry. He is the President and CEO of P.S./StarGames. StarGames is a fully integrated sports and entertainment communications company providing sports programming to various mass media outlets including television, video, direct broadcast satellite and the internet.

...who do you want to actually hang out with more?

The thing I remember most clearly from all this is: "WHY?!"

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 6 January 2005 05:43 (twenty years ago)

You wouldn't believe how hard it was to find a photo of her saying that! But there it is, right up top.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 January 2005 05:43 (twenty years ago)

It's all about:

The thing I remember most clearly from all this is: "WHY?!"

every time I break a limb I forget to yell that.

miccio (miccio), Thursday, 6 January 2005 05:52 (twenty years ago)

Wait, your limb or someone else's?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 January 2005 05:56 (twenty years ago)

tree limbs!

blount, Thursday, 6 January 2005 05:57 (twenty years ago)

I just like the idea of Anthony walking down the street breaking people's limbs and yelling "WHY?" as he does so. Like the Punisher meets Jadakiss.

It's also the anniversary of Dizzy Gillespie's death... : (

But New Mexico joined the United States, so well done.

That boxing picture of Tonya is fucking scary. She looks like she could kick some serious ass.

Baiul >>>>> Kerrigan in the '94 Olympics and the fact that Nancy came so close to winning gold is a pathetic testiment to the way figure skating doesn't mind sacrificing its integrity for a little bit of mainstream attention.

Kerrigan's appearance as SNL host was also horrendously bad, and didn't even have the courtesy of being unintentionally funny in a trainwreck sort of way. It just sucked, period.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 6 January 2005 06:10 (twenty years ago)

i think Tonya still lives somewhere around here in Portland, too. The Willamette Week did a "Where are they now?" thing on her a coupla months.

kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 6 January 2005 06:47 (twenty years ago)

S: Goddammit, Jesus, snap out of it! What would Nancy Kerrigan do, huh? Nancy Kerrigan wouldn't give up. When things were looking their darkest, Nancy Kerrigan fought to be the best. She wouldn't stop until she was number one.
K: Uh, Stan.
S: Nancy Kerrigan wouldn't settle for second best.
K: Stan.
S: She wouldn't quit until she brought home the gold.
K: Stan.
S: What?
K: Nancy Kerrigan got the silver, dude. She came in second.
S: Really?
K: Yeah, dude.
S: Never mind, Jesus, Nancy Kerrigan sucks.

thirtyone for two!, Thursday, 6 January 2005 07:05 (twenty years ago)

Hahahaha. I had forgotten about that.
