Democratic Party 2005 Thread

Lost last two presidential elections? Seen the opposing party continue to gain seats in the House and Senate? Unable to win a political contest even with a failing economy and unpopular war? Then here's a good idea: Let's just continue to do what we've been doing and maybe it will fix itself.

I mean, Ted Kennedy's still in power. That's the only thing that matters, right?

Pathetic. McCauliffe is slime.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 6 January 2005 19:20 (twenty years ago)

it's odd that Dean is like a footnote in that article when he seems to have the most grassroots support in the party, if Democratic message boards are anything to go by. But then, I guess we don't really get a say in it, so whatever.

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 6 January 2005 19:22 (twenty years ago)

dean's got no shot. grassroots or no.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Thursday, 6 January 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

rosenburg is a shoe-in, methinks.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Thursday, 6 January 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

Rosenberg, then. please. someone. (xpost well good!)

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 6 January 2005 19:25 (twenty years ago)

oh, and i couldn't agree more about mccauliffe. what a twat.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Thursday, 6 January 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

It's funny to see Schumer pimping McAuliffe; I guess the junior senator from New York was busy that day.

"Terry McAuliffe has been a great chair and he could continue that." By what measure, Chuckie?

don weiner, Thursday, 6 January 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

apparently because he single handedly kept the dnc's finances in the black? that seems to be the only positive stated.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Thursday, 6 January 2005 20:03 (twenty years ago)

Im a fan of Rosenberg. I just hope the goddamn dems can get their shit together to fight the massive Social Security Disinformation campaing thats about to be steamrolled across 'murica and capitalize on it like the Republicans did in the early 90s.

major jingleberries (jingleberries), Thursday, 6 January 2005 20:53 (twenty years ago)

Will the historical overtones of the Rosenberg name damage his chances at all?

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Thursday, 6 January 2005 20:59 (twenty years ago)

"I mean, social security is taken from MY paycheck. How come I can't invest it in Pets.com?"

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Thursday, 6 January 2005 21:02 (twenty years ago)

"Terry McAuliffe has been a great chair and he could continue that." By what measure?

maybe he was being literal, and thought that McAuliffe should delve into S&M and make himself useful as human furniture.

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 6 January 2005 21:02 (twenty years ago)

James Carville just sent me a gmail encouraging me to donate more money to the Democratic Party. This will show the world that Democrats still - mean -business!

It's like Rolling Stone sending me a notice telling me to renew my subscription. Why? Because you selected Tom Petty & Justin Timberlake as Artists of The Year?

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Thursday, 13 January 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

maybe we can convince mccain to switch over and head the party!!

j c (j c), Thursday, 13 January 2005 19:39 (twenty years ago)

Kennedy also mangled the name of the Democrats' new star, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, calling him "Osama bin … Osama … Obama."

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 13 January 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

maybe we can convince mccain to switch over and head the party!!

Not too much different than Harry Reid.

two weeks pass...
I know you're probably giving birth and all right now, Emily, but:

dean's got no shot. grassroots or no.

seems to have been jumping the gun...

Dean's DNC run picks up steam

He also picked up the support of some Clinton staffer this weekend (can't find the article now) which, according to said article, is implicit support of the Clintons.

Is any of this a good idea?

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 31 January 2005 19:50 (twenty years ago)

If I go by the amount of email spam that I get from him after the election, I have to think Kerry is considering running again in 2008.

earlnash, Monday, 31 January 2005 20:06 (twenty years ago)

It gets Dean out of the way, maybe that's the appeal? I don't know...his campaign seems much more popular than I thought it would be - he's picking up people who didn't support him as a pres candidate.

three months pass...
Re the new bankruptcy law, ie gift to the credit-card companies, these 18 Dem senators need to be villified:

Shame on Reid and Byrd in particular.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Friday, 6 May 2005 12:55 (twenty years ago)

funny how pretty much all except the home-state Delawarans are in targeted/red states (though some, like Bayh, are probably pretty safe)

what I don't get is Inouye. it's the 2nd right-leaning vote from him i've seen this year. is he being cowed by something? getting old?
