Help me ILX, you are my only hope...
I'm sitting here in tears as I say this. I've been working on two documents non-stop for TWO MONTHS, day after day, night after night - tens of thousands of computations and configurations.
On Christmas Eve I worked on them "live" from my SD Card using a reader. I thought I'd saved a back-up on the hard drive - I hadn't. Now, they are gone.
Where are they? Where could they be? I've used all the best data recovery software to find them on the card or hard drives, and there's nothing. Obviously these programs would only work if the files wee "deleted", but I believe they were just cut'n'pasted - is there any recovery software which checks for files which were moved by cutting and pasting?
This truly is a nightmare for me, so any response at all will be met by the biggest of thankyous and the warmest of karma.
Oh, and I'm here at ILX because I've no idea what geek forum to go to, so any suggestions there could be good too!

also, try searching your computer for all files with the extension .doc from the last week or so. make sure and extend the search to hidden files and hidden directories. if you had ms word autosave turned on, this search will turn up all the autosaved versions of your document.

also, if by cut and paste, you mean you cut the files from your hard drive (as opposed to cutting and pasting their text from/into the files), a data recovery program
should be able to recover it. i highly recommend getdataback, which you can get from
http://www.runtime.org/.
