I can't believe somebody made a movie about EVP.

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 10 January 2005 03:34 (twenty years ago)

Speaking of DeLillo, though!

"Combining real and fictional events, Game 6 centers around the historic 1986 World Series and a day in the life of a playwright who skips opening night to watch the momentous game."

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 10 January 2005 03:36 (twenty years ago)

wtf???????????!!!!!!!!!!!!

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 10 January 2005 03:38 (twenty years ago)

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 10 January 2005 03:40 (twenty years ago)

Haha, the guy starring as "Hassidic Rabbi walking by" has a pretty impressive bio: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1380939/bio

C0L1N B--KETT, Monday, 10 January 2005 03:40 (twenty years ago)

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 10 January 2005 03:40 (twenty years ago)

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 10 January 2005 06:31 (twenty years ago)

if he ever gets profiled in EW the headline should be "don't go breckin my heart"! YES!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 10 January 2005 07:18 (twenty years ago)

the biggest disappointment of last year was learning that this was not, in fact, based on the delillo novel.

in protest, i am pointedly NOT seeing it.

derrick (derrick), Monday, 10 January 2005 08:42 (twenty years ago)

i guess with this and the mention in william gibson's last novel, EVP has arrived.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Monday, 10 January 2005 09:03 (twenty years ago)

HERE COME THE FLEAS!

zappi (joni), Monday, 10 January 2005 09:34 (twenty years ago)

I didn't think it looked that bad from the trailers, and was considering seeing it (having read a fair bit about EVP and owning some of the albums).

Then I discovered it was directed by Geoffrey Sax.

Suddenly I don't want to see it any more.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 10 January 2005 11:43 (twenty years ago)

We're going to see this on Thursday.

Considering that Joe spent half his life trying to debunk EVP and writing nasty articles about it, I find it frankly hillarious. I wonder if he's tried to sue the producers for "stealing his ideas" yet.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Monday, 10 January 2005 11:47 (twenty years ago)

there's EVP albums? like, a greatest hits of dead people whispering?

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Monday, 10 January 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

It's probably not as bad as the book.

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Monday, 10 January 2005 20:03 (twenty years ago)

Game 6 WTF!? INDEED!

jed_ (jed), Monday, 10 January 2005 20:11 (twenty years ago)

hazel - the one I have, The Ghost Orchid, is equal parts creepy and hoax-y.

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 03:09 (twenty years ago)

I WANT MY TWO DOLLARS

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 05:29 (twenty years ago)

Wasn't there already a movie about someone contacting his dead father through some instruments while he was observing space or at a radio station or some shit?

Roger Ebert, Tuesday, 11 January 2005 05:35 (twenty years ago)

Wasn't there already a movie about someone contacting his dead father through some instruments while he was observing space or at a radio station or some shit?

oooooh yeah, i vaguely remember this. did it have mel gibson in it? i think shit was the operative word.

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 05:36 (twenty years ago)

jesus was in it, he was able to communicate with his dead dad across space and time thru a short wave radio, it was called 'frequency'.

j blount (papa la bas), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 05:38 (twenty years ago)

It involved the '69 Mets! Shoe polish was VERY KEY!

I'M SORRY I BLEW UP YOUR MOM

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 05:41 (twenty years ago)

Shoe polish was VERY KEY!

also i think there was bryl creem galore!

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 05:43 (twenty years ago)

THIS IS PURE SNOW

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 06:10 (twenty years ago)

now if savage steve holland made a movie about EVP i would go see it.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 07:34 (twenty years ago)

I saw this and wasn't really sure what to think. It wasn't really so scary, but I got the impression it wasn't supposed to be! If you're into watching Batman creep about pulling faces like Bruce Willis though, it's awesome.

Patrick Allan (adr), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 08:23 (twenty years ago)

I thought it was a dog, dog, dog. Perhaps not surprisingly, it's doing rather well at the b.o.

TESTICLES

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 17 January 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

got dragged to this on Friday. It was pretty pointless movie.

00ps, Monday, 17 January 2005 22:20 (twenty years ago)

i didn't like it too much, but the wife HATED it.

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Monday, 17 January 2005 23:07 (twenty years ago)

It was great with your eyes closed (or trying to pick the raisins out of the Revels) because it sounded like THE GREATEST EXPERIMENTAL SOUND ART ALBUM IN THE WORLD EVER!!!

I thought it was pretty good. I know I'm in the minority. I mean, spooky soundart, check. Murderous electric pylons, check. Lots of technogeekcrap, check. Spooky abandonned buildings, check.

The slowness of the first half just made the second half more terrifying when the scary bits finally kicked in!

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 11:01 (twenty years ago)

Anyone remember 'Static'?

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 11:42 (twenty years ago)

well anyway it was pretty decent, it was about some guy who invents a machine for seeing images of heaven, the machine is just a screen showing static. He is laughed out of town and the ending is pretty sad. A great soundtrack too if i remember correctly with The The's "This is the Day" at the start.

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 12:11 (twenty years ago)

I'm just annoyed because I wrote what I thought was a pretty scary EVP short story last year and now I can never sell it for that million dollar screenplay I was hoping. :-(

Mine was creepier, though. It was set in a CONVENT SCHOOL and had NUNS in it which automatically ups the creepy quotient.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 12:25 (twenty years ago)

NUNS in SUSPENDERS??

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 12:36 (twenty years ago)

No, that would up the SEXINESS quotient but not the CREEPINESS quotient. Though terrifyingly old nuns in suspenders might be pretty creepy.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 12:39 (twenty years ago)

"Brutal but laughable sex horror which sees a group of nuns who's curiosity into the strange leads them inevitably to their doom. Goldie Hawn and Burt Reynolds lead the way in this sizzling first chapter in the Rebel Nuns Trilogy"
- The Guardian

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 12:56 (twenty years ago)

You know those Orange ads... "Don't let RANDOM MENTALISTS FROM THE INTERWEB ruin your movie..."

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 12:59 (twenty years ago)
