Hi, I'm not really back but I thought I'd start another thread to keep my name and presence alive until I make my triumphant return. Much love y'all, and holla back at my LA people.

Remy Snush is / not / in love (x Jeremy), Monday, 10 January 2005 22:28 (twenty years ago)

(self-indulgent, no?)

Remy Snush The Night Away (x Jeremy), Monday, 10 January 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

When do you make your triumphant return?

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 10 January 2005 22:35 (twenty years ago)

what a fucking letdown

.adam (nordicskilla), Monday, 10 January 2005 22:36 (twenty years ago)

Will it also be triumphal?

Michael White (Hereward), Monday, 10 January 2005 22:36 (twenty years ago)

it hasnt stopped raining for 4 days man!! i have no car so ive been very wet. come back soon!

chaki in charge (chaki), Monday, 10 January 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

I left my key card in my car in the parking lot at work this morning. One trip through the rain turned into three. SAD FACE

American Apparel and Jeanne-Claude (deangulberry), Monday, 10 January 2005 22:40 (twenty years ago)

Wish I could DRIVE to work.

.adam (nordicskilla), Monday, 10 January 2005 22:41 (twenty years ago)

I've never seen LA in the rain! What's it like?

Laverne got 5 inches last night!

nickn (nickn), Monday, 10 January 2005 22:48 (twenty years ago)

(obvious joke)

.adam (nordicskilla), Monday, 10 January 2005 22:48 (twenty years ago)

LA in the rain is not too different. Everyone drives like a bigger douchebag than normal and there are more potholes. The main difference is that everyone is likely to complain about the weather, no matter how bad it is.

American Apparel and Jeanne-Claude (deangulberry), Monday, 10 January 2005 22:51 (twenty years ago)

Where are you Remy? I must've missed this.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 10 January 2005 22:52 (twenty years ago)

He is home, I imagine. Home for the holidays.

.adam (nordicskilla), Monday, 10 January 2005 22:55 (twenty years ago)

Yes, obvious, but there is actually a town called Laverne here.

nickn (nickn), Monday, 10 January 2005 22:56 (twenty years ago)

I was home in RI now I'm back in LA, but I'm totally swamped and won't be able to post until I've got a few things taken care of.

Only dean uses words like "douchebarg" and "jerk".

.adam (nordicskilla), Monday, 10 January 2005 22:57 (twenty years ago)

I wonder why?

.adam (nordicskilla), Monday, 10 January 2005 22:58 (twenty years ago)

(I did notice you were gone, Remy, just didn't know where!)

I have never in my life said "douchebarg." Do try to keep up, you Scottish jerk.

American Apparel and Jeanne-Claude (deangulberry), Monday, 10 January 2005 22:59 (twenty years ago)

I can't remember this must sustained rain! 8 inches in my neighborhood over the weekend.

American Apparel and Jeanne-Claude (deangulberry), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:01 (twenty years ago)

I of course mean "this much" above!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:07 (twenty years ago)

Is that chart for the average out of those three months or a total? 20 inches in three months doesn't sound like a lot, but my perspective may be clouded at the moment both figuratively and literally.

American Apparel and Jeanne-Claude (deangulberry), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:11 (twenty years ago)

Good question. Here's a rainfall map up to the last 72 hours:

I've never seen LA in the rain! What's it like?

Wet. *rimshot*

luna (luna.c), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:22 (twenty years ago)

We'll be here all week.

I've been loving the weather myself. Then again I've been out of most of it.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:25 (twenty years ago)

I think LA has this weird thing about rain - we rarely get it, so we complain about how much we miss it, oh, all this sun gets old, no really, but then we bitch and moan even harder when it actually DOES rain.

I am happy with this.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:29 (twenty years ago)

It's raining here.

.adam (nordicskilla), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:31 (twenty years ago)

did malibu slide into the ocean yet? jeez, looking at map.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

I am not complaining at all. I've always enjoyed the rain. Growing up rain deprived and all... on Arrakis... desert planet... DUNE!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

Must...protect...the spice.

.adam (nordicskilla), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:34 (twenty years ago)

I don't really mind it at all. Clothes dry. I have a heater.

It's that goddamned wind though that I never want to see again.

American Apparel and Jeanne-Claude (deangulberry), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:35 (twenty years ago)

The wind on Friday was nutty.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:35 (twenty years ago)

Rain also seems to kick your ass more than it does here. Mudslides etc... I remember driving down Sunset near Beverly Hills or whatever, towards the West there near the end of the year in, like, '98 or '99 and having to pull over 'cause the rain and leaves on my windshield, the puddles in the street, and the shit flying around was too intense.

Michael White (Hereward), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:36 (twenty years ago)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:39 (twenty years ago)

I'm gonna go jump in the puddles when I get home.

*I only bitch about the rain when my roof leaks.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:41 (twenty years ago)

Also, why is it that it stops being okay to jump in puddles once you've passed the age of 5? I can't find anyone to do it with me now (no adults anyway), but when I was a kid, it was like the best idea ever. W. T. F.?

luna (luna.c), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:42 (twenty years ago)

Must...protect...the spice.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:43 (twenty years ago)

(that's a trading card!!!)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:43 (twenty years ago)

Actually that chart does remind me of the 98 winter, it was wet indeed -- but Spencer's right, in terms of sustained rain this takes the cake. Not quite nine straight days but the brief respite on Thursday last week was just that.

Nothing wrong with jumping in puddles as long you have galoshes.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 January 2005 23:43 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I guess it has been that long. I've been at work for the past 8 days, so it all seems like one dreary, wet day to me.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 00:30 (twenty years ago)

The rain is supposed to be over on Wednesday. The time for puddle jumping is short, my friends.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 01:11 (twenty years ago)

Weirdly enough, today I missed any full-on drenching due to timing -- going in I had only a slight drizzle to deal with, no rain at all during a midmorning break, some rain during lunch but nothing bad, and a coworker kindly offered to drive me home practically right up to my door. And where I work in a cubicle set-up (sigh, but what can you do) means that there can be huge amounts of rain and wind and I won't notice any of it! C'est la vie.

You guys should escape to Seattle or the northern midwest.. will be sunny here all week. Just make sure to not spit on yourself at night outside, or your chin will ice up.

I've been loving the mountain views from UCI. This morning, with the crisp clear sky and the shadows on the peaks from the sunrise, was absolutely beautiful.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 13 January 2005 21:52 (twenty years ago)

I might have to go to L.A. (er, orange county.. guhhh), on business. I will expect to be entertained while I'm there, by you lot.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 13 January 2005 22:00 (twenty years ago)

Yay Mandee visit! And if it's OC then everyone finally has to come down here.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 13 January 2005 22:12 (twenty years ago)

No, it makes more sense for the two of you to come up here. :)

American Apparel and Jeanne-Claude (deangulberry), Thursday, 13 January 2005 22:14 (twenty years ago)

MOOR SCENTS PLEASE

American Apparel and Jeanne-Claude (deangulberry), Thursday, 13 January 2005 22:14 (twenty years ago)

Los Angeles has looked so peaceful ever since Gareth took care of that eye-lasing death cat.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 13 January 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

No, it makes more sense for the two of you to come up here. :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you've yet to attend an LA FAP yourself? ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 13 January 2005 22:45 (twenty years ago)

I wonder where exactly that picture was taken from...

One of the buildings on Wilshire near the Bullocks Wilshire building or perhaps a helicopter

Gator Magoon (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 13 January 2005 23:46 (twenty years ago)

Has anybody heard of any LA power outages?

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 13 January 2005 23:46 (twenty years ago)

xpost, looks like it's from the south-west.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 14 January 2005 00:07 (twenty years ago)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you've yet to attend an LA FAP yourself? ;-)

I need you to come to me, Ned.

Has anybody heard of any LA power outages?

Yeah, I was just in one. Two hours. Century City. Fun times.

American Apparel and Jeanne-Claude (deangulberry), Friday, 14 January 2005 00:51 (twenty years ago)

Ned comes up a lot!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 14 January 2005 00:54 (twenty years ago)

I was about to say, ya lazy Dean you. And you've been invited before! But fear not, more FAPs will be in the offing.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 14 January 2005 00:55 (twenty years ago)

I'm kidding, obviously. I appreciate the invites. One of these days!

American Apparel and Jeanne-Claude (deangulberry), Friday, 14 January 2005 00:57 (twenty years ago)

i feel sad for those hippies in la conchita :(

chaki in charge (chaki), Friday, 14 January 2005 02:06 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I only actually read the details about the story the other day and was deeply depressed. Knowing that you survived because you made an ice cream run while your wife and three of your kids didn't...damn.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 14 January 2005 02:08 (twenty years ago)

If only we knew the stories of a few of the 150,000-250,000 people killed by the earthquake/tsunami just two and half weeks ago... and the tens of thousands who will die as a result of it.

I have a whole lot of love for La Conchita but a little sobering devestation-perspective from the media would be nice.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 14 January 2005 02:13 (twenty years ago)

im sad for the tsunami people too :(

chaki in charge (chaki), Friday, 14 January 2005 02:15 (twenty years ago)

No-no, I think everyone who's aware of the disaster is, it just seems the major media seems to have dropped the story so quickly (and the story over there keeps getting worse and worse).

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 14 January 2005 02:20 (twenty years ago)

yah tv sucks

chaki in charge (chaki), Friday, 14 January 2005 02:23 (twenty years ago)

Gygax OTM.

American Apparel and Jeanne-Claude (deangulberry), Friday, 14 January 2005 02:35 (twenty years ago)

Nobody seems to mention that a similar mudslide took out a couple houses in La Conchita about 7-8 years ago. You could see the smashed houses off the freeway if you were looking for it. You figure they'd realize that perhaps its a bad idea to live directly under a mountain of dirt...

major jingleberries (jingleberries), Friday, 14 January 2005 02:36 (twenty years ago)

eleven months pass...
So rain in LA, then.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 2 January 2006 19:53 (nineteen years ago)

I miss LA.

I attempted to drive to the Spiral Jetty last week but the weather in NV was too crappy to drive through.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Monday, 2 January 2006 20:02 (nineteen years ago)

Yes I know that it has nothing to do with LA

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Monday, 2 January 2006 20:02 (nineteen years ago)

It was raining hard enough that for the first time in 40 years my mom decided not to go to the Rose Parade (the last one she missed was back in 1966 when I was still only a couple months old)

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Monday, 2 January 2006 20:05 (nineteen years ago)

My parents said the freeways are flooding and they saw a car that had overturned. They don't want me to drive today. I have good memories of driving in the rain.

youn, Monday, 2 January 2006 20:07 (nineteen years ago)

i came into work today, driving through miserable conditions from Los Feliz to Santa Monica, and my boss said she didn't know it was a federal holiday, so i'm going home at one.

gear (gear), Monday, 2 January 2006 20:11 (nineteen years ago)

How bad is Los Feliz? I think I left my window open two weeks ago.

remy (x Jeremy), Monday, 2 January 2006 23:41 (nineteen years ago)

i wanna go to LA

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 01:51 (nineteen years ago)

You can blame me for the rain this time. I arrived and it started pissing out. I understand that it'll clear up when we leave, tomorrow.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 02:26 (nineteen years ago)

los feliz island now stop send help stop oh god theyre all dead stop
