is Starbucks, the coffee empire, named after Starbuck, the young protagonist from Battlestar Galactica?

Not even just Melville: wasn't there a prominent English/colonial whaling family named Starbuck? Just last month I watched those creepy-ass Keno brothers go through a restored New England Starbuck house on PBS.

LSTD (answer) (sexyDancer), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 22:01 (twenty years ago)

Someone told me a weird urban legend-ish story that the seed money to invest in/start up the coffee company was provided by Kenny G and Barbara Streisand and that that is the actual reference- the business was built on "Star" Bucks . . ..

it doesn't sound very likely, does it? But one can dream.

Non-league football: Leigh turn to Starbuck

PHIL Starbuck has been handed the job of keeping Leigh RMI in the Nationwide Conference, with ex-City and Bury star Steve Redmond as his assistant.

Former Oldham and Nottingham Forest midfielder Starbuck has got the nod from Leigh's directors following a promising stint as caretaker player/manager.

Starbuck joined Leigh in the summer as assistant to Mark Patterson, who moved to Chorley three months ago.

His brief is simply to stop the struggling Hilton Park outfit sliding into non-League's new Northern Alliance
