"Oh I couldn't possibly do *that* job, you have to do too much asslicking"

Have you ver heard someone say that about a particular job? Have you ever said it? Do you think comments like that are just an accurate representation of what some jobs are like or just a blinkered, negative attitude?

Gay porn isn't for everyone, Mark.

I overheard a minister say this once, and he added "for God" at the end.

I'll answer this question with a question. I have a friend who works in IT, well, he used to work in IT. Job market is tough nowadays. He is married with two young children and a mortgage, yadda yadda etc. etc. His financial straits grow increasingly dire.

He got a job offer a week or so ago, a very lucrative benefit laden offer, geographically convenient to his current location. There is, however, a catch. This job offer is with a "direct marketing software company." That's right kids, spyware, PC destroying, pron bombing, grandma scaring spyware.

My friend is understandably torn. He is a slashdotting geek of the first order. He loves his computer, loves the internet and HATES spyware. But, he has to feed his family and other offers are not forthcoming.

So, remove the word asslicking from the above question and replace it with "soul-selling" what is the answer then?

i think he should take it and look to bring them down stealthily from within

This was our advice to him as well. He's hoping to have something in his contract stating he can work on whatever open source projects he chooses, and then just release the open source remover for anything he works on, but doubts that those in charge are THAT stupid.
