But the real question is, is it possible to get acid ANYWHERE in the country these days? It's like the holy grail.

Ian John50n (orion), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 23:17 (twenty-one years ago)

yes

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 23:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Be one American.

Ian John50n (orion), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 23:30 (twenty-one years ago)

i've been thinking the exact same thing.

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 23:32 (twenty-one years ago)

bullshit.

where is this article.

John (jdahlem), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 23:32 (twenty-one years ago)

article here

There was a widely disseminated article a while back describing how the two guys who produced something like 95% of the country's acid were busted somewhere in rural Kansas. I think this was around 2001.

Ian John50n (orion), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 23:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I know where to find some. yes it is impossible to find otherwise though.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Ian yes there is acid to be had in the midwest. Sorry if I can't be more specific.

White Bicyclist, Wednesday, 12 January 2005 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Pretty sure that the 95% figure is exaggerated, but supposedly the Kansas bust did put a big dent in the supply. The hilarious thing about it is that they had taken over a surplus Atlas missile silo.

Lots of info here

Gator Magoon (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:05 (twenty years ago)

LSD in America = $5
LSD in UK = ?

E in America = $20
E in UK = five pounds!

We need to do a drug exchange.

You can buy acid on Telegraph or Haight pretty much any time day or night.

andy-, Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:12 (twenty years ago)

did anyone ask geeta if she brought back any souvenir samples?

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:13 (twenty years ago)

I must look hella straight now since no-one has offered to sell me any in years!

miccio (miccio), Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:17 (twenty years ago)

I always get the shrooms weed pitch from dealers and sometimes the shrooms weed coke, but never acid.

American Apparel and Jeanne-Claude (deangulberry), Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:20 (twenty years ago)

HOW MUCH IS THAT GOV'T LSD, G33TA?

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:21 (twenty years ago)

I mostly get the "OC, OC" from shady looking guys. I guess I look grown-up now, with grown-up pains & worries.

andy-, Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:24 (twenty years ago)

OC = oxycontin, which I think is some kind of acne medicine.

andy-, Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:24 (twenty years ago)

LSD is totally wasted on fucking Purdue. Send that shit down to Bloomington! IT WOULD BE A FRIKKIN' UTOPIA, MAAAAAAN!!!

miccio (miccio), Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:24 (twenty years ago)

Could Geeta rock any harder? I think the answer is a resounding 'Nay!'

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:30 (twenty years ago)

When I was in Bloomington this summer I had to use a sketchy meth addict teenager as an intermediary to buy pre-rolled joints of shitty weed. Clearly I do not know the right people in Bloomington. Also, fuck a Bloomington cop.

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:32 (twenty years ago)

acid was all over the place when mr teeny went to bloomington (not that it's his thing)--however now that I think about it it was pre-2001.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:35 (twenty years ago)

you can buy acid on Telegraph or Haight pretty much any time day or night

i've heard rumors that's 40/40/20 speed/ecstasy/???. i've bought acid off homeless people on telegraph half-a-dozen times and i can't vouch for it. personally, i'd rather be robotripping.

robocop, Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:37 (twenty years ago)

are u fucking serious

John (jdahlem), Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:37 (twenty years ago)

Mushrooms >>>> acid

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:40 (twenty years ago)

Maybe that's just because I never saw giant slugs on mushrooms.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:40 (twenty years ago)

they both fuck up my stomach but mushrooms do it worse.

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:41 (twenty years ago)

Does acid still come on cool printed blotters? Man, I tripped hard on some Steve Miller album cover, bro.

RKL's "Greatest Hits" album cover was all sorts of colorful blotter, from a travelling acid museum I believe.

andy--, Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:42 (twenty years ago)

liquid is best

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:43 (twenty years ago)

I just answered my own question:

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 13 January 2005 01:14 (twenty years ago)

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 13 January 2005 02:53 (twenty years ago)

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 13 January 2005 02:56 (twenty years ago)

acid is very available in oz (great article geeta!)

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 13 January 2005 02:57 (twenty years ago)

I have bought acid on Haight.

.adam (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 January 2005 03:00 (twenty years ago)

last time I got acid(windowpane) was about 3 years ago and haven't been able to find it since, though I only ask the friends who've gone as straight as I have.

tremendoid (tremendoid), Thursday, 13 January 2005 03:09 (twenty years ago)

It used to be ridiculously easy to get on Haight, but that was about ten years ago.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 13 January 2005 03:13 (twenty years ago)

R2D2

American Apparel and Jeanne-Claude (deangulberry), Thursday, 13 January 2005 03:15 (twenty years ago)

Hey Phil-Two, isn't that your second mention in a row in Fly Life? Celebrities...

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Thursday, 13 January 2005 04:21 (twenty years ago)

link?

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 13 January 2005 04:29 (twenty years ago)

haha i guess it is.

me here

its the first two articles. "larry tee, justin bond, moby" and "krivit, tanaglia, and theo on 2004". oh, and one further down called "scary hipsters..."

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 13 January 2005 04:36 (twenty years ago)

E in America is $20? Maybe I could do a transatlantic swap for Ipods.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Thursday, 13 January 2005 11:07 (twenty years ago)

i havent seen acid in a long time, in england. e is everywhere still, of course, and ketamine is around a lot too. acid used to be £2-3 when i saw it, then it got more expensive, perhaps because people were doing it less, as pills got cheaper, then it just seemed to disappear

charltonlido (gareth), Thursday, 13 January 2005 11:12 (twenty years ago)

I wonder how carefully they screen the people who work in said LSD research lab here.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 13 January 2005 13:54 (twenty years ago)

Every time I've seen it on sale in the last few years I've been at Glastonbury, which perhaps isn't the best barometer of things.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 13 January 2005 13:56 (twenty years ago)

It also used to be easily available at Grateful Dead shows, but I don't know if any of the current crop of jam bands have assumed the mantle of perpetual travelling psychedelic carnival.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 13 January 2005 16:01 (twenty years ago)

Great article!

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Thursday, 13 January 2005 16:11 (twenty years ago)

Yes, interesting article - but is that all of it? It seemed like it was just getting going and then I reached the bottom of the page.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 13 January 2005 16:16 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, most people I know who like that kind of thing (me, I hate hallucinating) take shrooms these days.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 13 January 2005 16:22 (twenty years ago)

Geeeeeta kicks asssss(id). Heh heh. Seriously, well-done G!

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 13 January 2005 16:25 (twenty years ago)

yeah i dont know where to get any in new york. my roommate used to get some guy in berlin to mail them to her

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 13 January 2005 18:56 (twenty years ago)

i used to know a guy, but that was a year or two ago

Jams Murphy (ystrickler), Thursday, 13 January 2005 19:00 (twenty years ago)

Well Anna shrooms are LEGAL in the UK innit??

I have some on a piece of construction paper that I've had for like 3 years and for some bizarre reason have never taken. It's all dried out and gone away now, hasn't it?

My roommate used to be obsessed with it, partially because it was so hard to find in New York. One day he's out walking his dog along the street and passes some sweaty-looking skate kids and has this urge to ask them if they know where to get some. They respond that they have some right now, how much does he want? His jaw drops. He buys some and then he's like "how do I get in touch with you?" and the ringleader kid reaches into his pocket and hands him a piece of paper, and they fuck off down the road. Matt looks at the piece of paper. It's a torn-off corner of paper, that the kid has written his name and pager number on! He must have torn off the paper, written the info on the paper, and stuffed it into his pocket all in advance!!@@!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 13 January 2005 19:04 (twenty years ago)

i did acid last weekend but it was weak sauce

chakichaki, Thursday, 13 January 2005 19:05 (twenty years ago)

Yes, interesting article - but is that all of it?

What do you think this is, Washington City Paper or something? Voice Media is all about the brevity.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Thursday, 13 January 2005 19:10 (twenty years ago)

You would think that with a cover story at least there'd be a couple of pages of article inside.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 13 January 2005 19:18 (twenty years ago)

(This is not to dis Geeta's writing at all - she had me hooked and wanting more.)

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 13 January 2005 19:18 (twenty years ago)

ha i just found this thread!! you guys are awesome! yeah i wish the article was longer too, but i think the days of the voice doing super-long features are in the past, i'm afraid

i'm hoping to make it a series of articles, though, where i go around the country hanging out in weird labs!

geeta (geeta), Thursday, 13 January 2005 20:20 (twenty years ago)

Tracer that is insane and great.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Thursday, 13 January 2005 20:23 (twenty years ago)

Also this is really really well written.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Thursday, 13 January 2005 20:23 (twenty years ago)
