Is there any contemporary American theater worth the admission price?

It's "theatre," maaaaan. It's like the one time Americans don't disagree with the spelling on the other side of the Atlantic.

The RSC and-or National Theatre have appeared at BAM (the Brooklyn Academy of Music). The Lincoln Center Festival seems to host lots of Asian drama.

(xp - there's no rule. Some say that 'theater' refers to the house and 'theatre' to the art (or is it the other way around?))

thanks, martin!

I was TRYING to be American, but I still get my flow wrong.

adam, something you said about "Closer" makes me think you don't like theatre very much-why? (I'm really interested in this)

This is what I used to claim, but I don't actually care anymore, haha.

It's definitely not the other way around. The art is the one that ends in "re." I used to insist that the only time it should end in "er" is when someone was referring to a "cinema" as a "movie theater." In fact, spelling it "movie theatre" would be insulting to the dramatic arts. ;)

Some part of me will always care because I got my Bachelors in Theatre, but my panties don't get in a wad about it or anything. My post above was kind of a parody of myself at age 20.

I like Hum-Vees now.
