I'm "spinning" some "discs" on the "wheels" of "st..." oh you get the idea, at Club Hedonistic tonight at 1slington B4r Acad3my, that C4rling-financed glass'n'chrome scout hut upstairs in the shopping centre (yes, a venue in a shopping centre - mmm, classy) just up the road from Angel tube.

Doors 7.30pm, line-up as follows:

7.30pm doors open/DJ Charlie No4 (playing between all the bands too)
8.10pm We Will Be Pilots
9.00pm Echelon
9.40pm Hedon
10.20pm Editors
11pm-3am Club Seal with DJs Gareth Dobson (DrownedinSound), Ollie Russian and Charlie No4

According to the flyer, it's FREE to get in 'til 10pm, but after that there's a door tax of £4 or so - however, I understand I have a certain amount of free/cheap guest list space, so post on this thread if you fancy coming but think you'll be arriving after 10.

That said, I understand Echelon are worth showing up early for...

Oh, and it's CHEEP BOUZE! £1.50 for a lager, £1.50 for a vodka/mixer.

Come one, come all, come bludgeon me with inappropriate requests...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 14 January 2005 08:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Matt DC will attest to the messiness of Club Seal, no doubt.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 14 January 2005 08:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha, blimey. Good to see they've asked you back Charlie. I'm playing next week myself, assuming Gareth doesn't change his mind before then.

I was planning on coming to this anyway, but will probably be avoiding the bands like the plague and just coming on after the pub closes.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 January 2005 09:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm told both Echelon and Editors are well worth seeing fwiw (not heard either of 'em before, mind).

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 14 January 2005 09:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Will you play Lucky Star?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 January 2005 09:35 (twenty-one years ago)

At what point exactly does an FAP become a plug? There seems to be a very fine line.

Lance du Lac, Friday, 14 January 2005 09:35 (twenty-one years ago)

With bowed head, I acknowledge your comment, Lance. Mods, feel free to amend the thread title accordingly with the words SHAMELESS PLUG somewhere, if you feel it's appropriate to do so.

The thing is though, I get nothing from this. It's all for love, and since I genuinely think people on ILX will a. be vaguely interested, b. be likely to enjoy themselves if they showed up, and c. appreciate a decent and good value noisy evening out on a Friday (which is rare), I don't feel so bad about posting.

:-)

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 14 January 2005 09:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm considering going to this, cause after all, it is FREE (my favourite word in the English language) and well, Hedon are worth seeing again. (Their guitarist is super-nice, too.) Thanks for letting me know the door times as I would *hate* to intrude my tedious and dull presence (thanks other interweb messageboards) on They Might Be Pirates ever again.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 14 January 2005 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you have time to arrive with a mock-up t-shirt reading We Will Be Wankers?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 January 2005 10:00 (twenty-one years ago)

They're not even worth the time of feuding.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 14 January 2005 10:01 (twenty-one years ago)

nonsense! indie feuds are ALWAYS worth it, and the more ridiculous the better in my book.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 14 January 2005 10:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't pick this feud, I didn't start it, and I don't find their music or even insults interesting enough to continue it.

I actually think it's really childish, that if you're part of a website/club/scene which is supposed to be all about supporting other local bands, it's really quite childish to go on some messageboard and slag off one of the other bands that play at your/your friends' nightclub. It only makes one look ungracious and petty.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 14 January 2005 10:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Hooold up! Kate, what happened here? I know not of this feud.

Either way, slogan t-shirts are the way to go: remember TR4CK AND F13LD SUCK HAIRY MOOSE COCK?

ps. I *always* play "lucky star", for I am its bitch...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 14 January 2005 10:32 (twenty-one years ago)

They slagged The K1ssing T1me off on DiS for no apparent reason whatsoever. Anyway... who cares?

If I was going to start a feud with anyone, it would be Luxemburg, I think that would be fun. I want a t-shirt that says "I shagged Luxemburg and all I got was this lousy t-shirt".

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 14 January 2005 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i want a t-shirt that says:

I BLAME BIFFY CLYRO

financial restraits exclude me from tonight's festivities, however i am actually paid actually next friday, oh ruin, i see thee from here...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 14 January 2005 10:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I have been saved from financial ruin by tidying my room. And finding the hundred dollar bill that my mum slipped me. That said, I do need to chase down my check. Hrmmm. I seem to remember some horribleness with the mixed drinks *not* actually being the £1.50 that they claimed for some technical reason.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 14 January 2005 10:44 (twenty-one years ago)

is it £1.50 for the vodka and then $75 for the lemonade or summat? or is it only mixers that come out of the tap thing rather than, eg orange juice?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 14 January 2005 10:46 (twenty-one years ago)

What's wrong with Luxembourg?! I might be seeing them in Feb!

Starry (hello chickens), Friday, 14 January 2005 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

NB - never heard 'em, like!

Bluddy Biffy Clyro.

Starry (hello chickens), Friday, 14 January 2005 10:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it was just £1.50 for the vodka and another £1.50 for the coke to put in it or some nonsense like that. But then again, how am I supposed to remember? I was on drugs at the time!

x-post, nothing wrong with Luxemburg! I heart them! I just think they're funny and would like to feud with them. Because their singer rates a different Flock of Seagulls track to me, or, erm, something.

(Where are they playing in Feb, anyway? I missed their Garage show earlier this week.)

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 14 January 2005 10:49 (twenty-one years ago)

It's the first of Feb at the Windmill with teh Vichy Governments and Vilette (whoever the latter might be). I've been meaning to see teh Vichys for yonks but haven't got round to it but will def be at this one.

Starry (hello chickens), Friday, 14 January 2005 10:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Who are Biffy Clyro?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 January 2005 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

At the Windmill? Oh joy, that's walkable for me.

OK, the sound will be rubbitch, but never mind, as there are plenty of audience walkabout opportunities for Tim out of The Office/Morph bloke.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 14 January 2005 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

if you don't know, keep it that way. i wish i didn't know.

xpost

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 14 January 2005 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought Biffy Clyro was the name of Charlie Busted's pet rabbit?

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 14 January 2005 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

SOMEONE PHOTOSHOP THAT IMAGE NOW!

I have no idea how that would work, but you know, do it!

Starry (hello chickens), Friday, 14 January 2005 11:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Which image? Biffy Clyro as Charlie Busted's rabbit?

Or the singer of Luxemburg? Alas, I cannot claim credit for spotting that resemblence, twas The Spy's sharp eyes.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 14 January 2005 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Sarah means Martin Freeman as Morph.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 January 2005 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Let me see if I saved that email... hrmmm...

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 14 January 2005 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Busted have split up, its just been announced*. Charlie, I dare you to play Air Hostess in tribute.

*Least surprising split ever

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 January 2005 11:24 (twenty-one years ago)

In fact, Charlie, just play Busted. All night. I'll come. Will you play Busted?

Please?

Starry (hello chickens), Friday, 14 January 2005 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

is "air hostess" the best choice though? i'd rather play mcfly - out with the old...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 14 January 2005 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

No, no, no McFly. We must have a moment of mourning for Busted. Which lasts a whole set. Crashed The Wedding/Year 3000/Air Hostess medley.

Because I'm sure it was our GAY GAY SUPER GAY lesbian folk trio warmup on Who's David which offended the We Might Need Pilates so much.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 14 January 2005 11:55 (twenty-one years ago)

*checks DiS* wow, they were a little unnecessarily disparaging indeed. which band were they? i can't remember what they sound like, which may reflect on them or me, not sure.

Kate, if you bring Busted (ie a CD - no actual Members Of The Band please), I might consider playing something. Maybe.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 14 January 2005 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha, I will indeed bring a Busted CD, then.

Wait! This is a fiendish ploy to make sure I actually turn up, isn't it? Well, fine. If you promise that you will play Busted, then I will come.

(Now which CD to bring... oh my...)

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 14 January 2005 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

i may come. i dont know what time

charltonlido (gareth), Friday, 14 January 2005 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

matt, are any of these dj's the one that went on just after you and was really frattish and played only terrible mashups and 'walk like an egyptian'? (um, no offense if that was your friend, you know)

colette (a2lette), Friday, 14 January 2005 12:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I promise nothing. But if you don't show up, you'll never know!*

*leaving aside the fact that if you don't show up, I can't play Busted anyway...unless I just download "Air Hostess" when I get home, or HINT soneone gmails it to me HINT...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 14 January 2005 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I will come, because I have just received my ginourmous CHEQUE!!!

OK, I still won't have any money until it clears but at least this means that the CLOUD OF DOOM is gone from above my head and I might actually have a good time, dance and enjoy myself.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Friday, 14 January 2005 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Colette - no, I promise you that Walk Like An Egyptian guy will not be playing. (Well, he's not listed, anyway).

Charlie - I wouldn't worry about what you can get away with pop-wise. The aforementioned guy came on after me and pretty much tested the limits of what the dancefloor was prepared to tolerate, and it didn't clear.

Also IMPORTANT PUB THING: Drinking will also be taking place in the Red Lion beforehand. I'll be there from about 8.30ish, I think.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 January 2005 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Late afternoon bump, just in case.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 January 2005 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, so there was a thread (and yes, I'm still awake. Blasted mild insomnia). Kate, you missed 'Who's David' AND skinny indieboy fuxx making out. Music was overall brill - I love dancing to things I don't know once the mood takes me. Go Team's 'Ladyflash' is even better loud. I'm beginning to find stares from pretty girls really creepy these days. I like Islington.

Matt has an insano housemate and an attractive sister.

It was really good to see some of you again and meet new peeps. Charlie, we'll have that Keigo Oyamada conversation again sometime.

Next week, eh?

Captain GRRRios' Giggletits (Barima), Saturday, 15 January 2005 06:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, sorry, I kept missing people. My whole life is about waiting for people at the moment. I ended up sitting through one pretty decent band, one kind of OK band, and one band so dire that they made me actually hate music and never want to experience it ever again. Charlie played half of Air Hostess and then bottled playing the rest of it. I decided that I hated indierock and that I would have a better time at home. So I went there.

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Monday, 17 January 2005 10:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Charlie played half of Air Hostess and then bottled playing the rest of it.

I did? Really? Fuck me, I haven't a bloody clue what happened, to be honest. Haven't been so ruined in a good wee while. Still, apparently everyone enjoyed it - even my notindieanymore flatmates - and I had lots of fun til the bits I've forgotten. But I left my minidisc behind, which is REALLY annoying. Bah.
