Some scum sucker took my £4 maximum bid (it had been £1.80 for most of the day) by 20p in the last ten seconds while I was busy helping a student! This would have made an excellent present for my best mate too. Had I not wanted to keep it for myself...

Yeah, but if someone upbids you say now, your superceding bid happens now. With that prog, it happens only with one minute to go (or less), leaving the other guy with no time to jump in. Unless he's using the prog too...
