HELP: I'm an idiot who is trying to fix his DVD player

I bought a cheap-ass AMW (Amphion Media Works) DVD player V99 last year and of course, it doesn't play DVDs anymore. The thing is, it still plays CD and CD-Rs, which I find a bit curious and wondering if maybe I'd be able to fix it before I buy another one.

Shot in the dark here, but any help?

dvds and cds require different lasers, so any hybrid player would have to have both. if your dvd playing abilities, you're s.o.l.

next time maybe buy a yamada or a somy?
