As requested herepost pretty/scenic/quirky/interesting photos you have taken in BRITAIN (not including London as that has its own thread) this year on this thread. title them and list the date and location where taken, including a link to the location on streetmap if you feel so inclined. make them small enough to appear on this thread (512x384 or thereabouts) but feel free to provide an additional link to a larger version if you so wish.

Wow, Greig, those photos brought back memories - I used to live in Inverkeithing, in a flat just by the railway, right where you took that photo.

Note to self: must sort out some sort of online photo-hosting thingy so I can post some of the photos I've been taking recently.

Again, I used to live just over the road from that building.

Today, I have been out taking photos.

One Of The Three Rivers
Crowle, Isle Of Axholme. 6/2/04
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v357/sleepycaitlin/crowle.jpg
(I think this particular river is the Hatfield Waste Drain, but I'm not sure. The other two of the Three Rivers (that's the name on the map) are the other side of the road.)

Julian's Bower, Alkborough, Lincolnshire. 6/2/04
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v357/sleepycaitlin/bower1.jpg
(really needs a wider-angle lens)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v357/sleepycaitlin/bower2.jpg

Twin Pylons
Keadby, Lincolnshire. 6/2/04
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v357/sleepycaitlin/keadby2.jpg

The problem with taking landscape photos around here is the number of things that only work as wide panoramas - which my camera isn't very good at. For example:

Power Station
Keadby, Lincolnshire. 6/2/04
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v357/sleepycaitlin/keadby1.jpg

Confluence
Trent Falls, Lincolnshire / Yorkshire. 6/2/04

So that *was* the NRM where you took the horse's arse photo, then. I did wonder.

(i think the engine in the background of that one is an Ivatt 4 tank, but I'm not entirely sure)

(xpost)

caitlin (caitlin), Monday, 7 February 2005 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Nice photos of Lincolnshire, Caitlin! Though you're right, it's always going to be hard to capture the vast spaces and the huge weight of those skies without some sort of magic lense. Good work though!

NickB: I wonder if your dad works with Matt's dad then, ie. for Bucks council?

Indeed he does. Something to do with computers. Must be a nice place to work, cos I guess it's the only place in town where you don't have to actually look at that fugly dolop of concrete.

NickB (NickB), Monday, 7 February 2005 13:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Incidentally, this Streetmap link covers the general area where all those photos were taken.

caitlin (caitlin), Monday, 7 February 2005 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

it sure was the NRM caitlin. i didn't remember which engine it was at the background unfortunately (the horse's arse was way too distracting).

Archel (Archel), Monday, 7 February 2005 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Is the mask-statue an Isamu Noguchi, do you know?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 29 July 2005 10:25 (twenty years ago)

I think it's part of a temporary display by the Yorkshire Sculptor's Group. I didn't actually think to check so I don't know who the sculptor actually is. I do really like the statue - I've got that photo as my pc desktop.

If anybody's interested I have loads more photos from the Cairngorms, York and Durham up at flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/treefell/sets/
