That looks like someone had a hipster accident in the Ugg boot factory.

Just saw the new documentary about this guy. Lots of cuts to shots from Abel Gance’s
Napoleon, which was apparently a very important film to him

Saw "High and Low: Galliano" and enjoyed it.
It's always moving to see original archive footage and in this case paired with music contemporary to the time. That scene with Margaret Thatcher(!)
It was very interesting to learn about his early life and his collaboration with Steven Robinson. Had no idea Galliano was so dependent on this completely unsung assistant for his work.
The film shows how the business of fashion is a very lethal pressure cooker, to wit, Alexander McQueen and Stella Tennant, who are both shown or mentioned in this film, along with Isabella Blow, who is not.
The head-on handling of his fall from grace and attempts to rehabilitate reminds me of the documentary series Coco Chanel: Unbuttoned which (in addition to going over some of the very clear design references from her early years in the convent) addresses head-on her collaboration with the Nazis and similar privileged treatment after the fact.
Regarding Abel Gance’s Napoleon, I appreciated the discussion of that film's influence and the clips from that film as well as what I assume is the Red Shoes.
The counterpart to the "Incroyables" (French Directorate era dandies) which was the theme of Galliano's final project at St. Martin's is the "Merveilleuses" - also referenced by the collection of sheer white dresses that became transparent when wet.
