Two movies I'm trying to find but only vaguely recall. Both are from the mid-to-late '90s, I saw them on HBO or cable, I doubt either got a theatrical release. The IMDB plot search was no help, neither was Google, but maybe some other fan of bad movies has seen one.
One is about a teenage girl who runs away to Manhattan to live the city life, has to sleep on the street her first night, meets a black guy with dreadlocks who helps her out, hooks up with an asshole boyfriend who cheats on her. That's about all I remember, plus a few scenes where she goes to a bar to see the black guy's band.
Number two is even more vague, I only really remember two scenes. This one has two teenage girls, one wants to go to art school, they run away to Manhattan, presumably from Jersey. On the Jersey shore, they get picked up by a couple of creepy guys, smoke pot dosed with PCP, get angry and run away. In Manhattan everything's going badly, but the girls visit an art school (pretty sure it was Cooper-Union?). I think the main girl may have ended up homeless.
Plz help my bad teen movie fetish.

I don't think Where The Day Takes You is it (it was definitely Manhattan, maybe there was a CBGB's cameo and no big names) but I have to see it now. Possibly the best movie ever.

Yes, thanks, the second one is definitely Whatever. I can't believe it's set in '81.
