Yesterday I was dragged and then thrown from a moving truck, and last night I woke up feeling as if an armoured koala had climbed down my esophagus and begun baling hay. Shaking with cold sweat and u

wtf happened with the truck?

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 17:56 (twenty years ago)

Everyone tell worse stories and make Roger feel better by comparison.

For instance: last time I was sick, it was with food poisoning from Long John Silver's (what was I thinking?!), and it lasted for three days. Three days in the bathroom, essentially. And when not in the bathroom, moaning. Not moaning for effect or for sympathy, just moaning because the situation called for it.

wtf happened with the truck?

I think it was a metaphorical truck.

Suck it up, ya pussy. Get to work.

Flu sucks. And there's really nothing that helps except sympathy.

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 17:57 (twenty years ago)

Drink water/juice/non-diuretic tea like a mofo, dress warmly (even with fever) and sleep.

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 17:58 (twenty years ago)

i heard juice was bad! the acid or something?

The truck story - well, i work on a truck, as a driver. Sometimes we partner up. Anyway, I was loading the empty cake trays from the prison onto the truck, when the dude I was working with, who thought I'd already latched the truck door, took off fast. Like a dumb shit I held on as my feet dragged alongside - pants / shoes ripped practically to shreds. Then, realizing he couldn't see me and wasn't going to stop, I let go before he turned out of the parking lot. It was then I fell hard on my face / shoulder.

i had food poisoning once, and it was my first time and I didn't klow what it was, so it was scary. I was up late at night alone and I ate some fried chicken. Suddenly my face turned dark red, I couldn't breathe, and i was throwing up hard, large chunks that barely made it out of my mouth. Having never experienced food posioning before, I literally thought i was dying. Luckily, a few minutes later, I was fine. But I've heard of people having food poisoning for days, and they all say the same thing - you pray for death.

Luckily I have the Twilight Zone box set and lots of blueberry tea. But my major concern right now is the loss of pay, and having to somehow come up with the rent in four days without much of a paycheck this week (i plan on staying home until I'm better, least of all to not infect anyone else - the flu is going around around here hardcore).

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 18:08 (twenty years ago)

fuck man i'm sorry about your injuries/sickness. get well soon dude!

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

Juice - clear juice is OK (except apple juice I think I heard was also bad - plus it tastes like urine.)

Hope you receover soon - sounds like you're feeling quite shitty.

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

Um, clear juice?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 18:18 (twenty years ago)

Flu is a mofo. The onset is the worst time. Drink hot fluids, take analgesics, sleep, groan a lot. Do what you have to do. Be prepared to feel mighty puny for at least a week.

Aimless (Aimless), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 18:20 (twenty years ago)

Cranberry?

Also, Gatorade is better than juice if you're um, discharging? a lot.

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 18:21 (twenty years ago)

gatorade is not good for you, period.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

see, when I was little, that's all the doctor gave us - he told us to drink tons of Gatorade, so much that, as an adult, I still equate lime Gatorade with being sick. So is this a fallacy or what?

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 18:24 (twenty years ago)

If you want something better than Gatorade, get Pedialyte.

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 18:29 (twenty years ago)

Gatorade has electrolytes, so it mimics the interstitial fluids of your body. Therefore it provides a ready-made and easily assimilated replacement fluid. The same is true of Pedialyte, a much more expensive product. Gatorade is also highly repellent muck, but your doctor obviously didn't factor that in.

Aimless (Aimless), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 18:30 (twenty years ago)

it goes well with vodka tho.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 18:30 (twenty years ago)

Cake trays and prison? You live an interesting life.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 18:37 (twenty years ago)

I had a horrendous flu like that over christmas, with pleurisy thrown on top. Not a lot of fun. I can sympathise.

Greig (treefell), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 18:50 (twenty years ago)

I had Winter Vomiting Disease a few weeks ago, much like flu with added vomiting/diarrhoea. Nothing to suggest other than plenty of fluids (no coffee/tea), painkillers and sleep.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 19:03 (twenty years ago)

You don't want to chug tons of juice; it's hard on your stomach. Water it down with seltzer or ginger ale or something.

Snappy (sexyDancer), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

oh man! get well soon. no workers' comp?

teeeny, Tuesday, 1 February 2005 19:19 (twenty years ago)
