the sun is coming up.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 11:46 (twenty years ago)

this is so wonderfully embarassing.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 11:48 (twenty years ago)

ps my last ex checked out ilx, so what? fuck it (we're still friends).
-- hstencil (hstenc!...), February 2nd, 2005 11:41 AM. (hstencil)

Yeah, well, so are The Spy and I (still friends) but I'd kind of like to keep it that way.

Which I feel like I will compromise if I go all over ILX and spout "Ohmigod, Morph is so damn hott!!" and start mad-flirting with you, Stence, and offering to marry you. None of which jibes very well with my "Put the computer boy back in its box and send it back to Microsoft MI5 because you are too stupid neurotic to own a computer Be In A Relationship" stance.

Sigh.

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 11:48 (twenty years ago)

i am listening to voice of the turtle and watching the sun come up.

ps KATE!

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 11:49 (twenty years ago)

...though really I suppose that the flirting with Stence and lusting over Morph really is a way of avoiding Being In A Relationship.

I don't even have the excuse of drunkenness. I'm just still on a high from last night.

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 11:50 (twenty years ago)

What did you think to the Vichys?

(PS this thread is GREAT)

Ess-rah, Wednesday, 2 February 2005 11:51 (twenty years ago)

I thought the Vichys were FREAKING HILARIOUS. I found them immensely enjoyable. The amount of bitterness and vile contrasting with the pristine 80s synthesizer was very effective. But I would find it hard to see them as a musical group, rather than a comedy/commentary political statement.

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 11:53 (twenty years ago)

Well, I killed that thread. Where did Andrew and Stence go?

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 11:57 (twenty years ago)

the less i drink, the more drunk iget.

god, really, i amsorry. i haave seen things...you wouldn't believe.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 11:57 (twenty years ago)

I'm here, I'm here.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 11:57 (twenty years ago)

I've been watching Twin Peaks for the last 5 hours so I'm a bit weirded out.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 11:58 (twenty years ago)

REACTION time getting much sloer....

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 11:58 (twenty years ago)

anderew you MIdGETST!

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

Do you want me to do that thing with the cherry stem and my tongue, then? Would that help make the world seem a normal place again?

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

I am too stoned I need to sleep

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

what what?! hstencil please!

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

Wish I was DRUNK!!! Only had two glasses of wine last night and then I went home coz I didn't want to be hungover at work.

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

Trayce we are so close but yet so far.

Why..

Why!?

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:00 (twenty years ago)

i need a joint.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:00 (twenty years ago)

oh kate, come to your home country.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:00 (twenty years ago)

Home country? Honey, the last time I was in NYC, it felt like a FOREIGN COUNTRY!!! The money was all strange. And people talked funny. And all the cars were on the wrong side of the road.

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:02 (twenty years ago)

ABdrew: I have plenty here, yr welcome over any time. Oy I cant typer. Ima bed now.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:07 (twenty years ago)

Nah I quit, but thanks anyway Trayce. :)

Kate I could've sworn you were of British origin.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:13 (twenty years ago)

Andrew, I am British. But I did live in NY for 15 years or something.

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:15 (twenty years ago)

Yeah I thought so.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:16 (twenty years ago)

What's it like doing a Twin Peaks marathon? I've never really done one. It's been years since I saw it. Did a Buffy marathon last weekend (11 straight hours) and we were pretty twisted by the end of it.

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:18 (twenty years ago)

I do marathons with pretty much every TV series. Twin Peaks is one of the most satisfying things to digest in large amounts, except it always leaves you unsatisfied and slightly confused.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:19 (twenty years ago)

You do kinda realise that Lynch was winging it most of the time, though.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:19 (twenty years ago)

But I thought that was the whole point of Twin Peaks - to leave you unsatisfied and slightly confused!

The only thing I ever used to marathon on was Babylon 5, when I no longer had a telly. I would get my friends to tape it for me, and then I'd watch a month at a time.

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:20 (twenty years ago)

God that series is awful! How can you stand it?!

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:22 (twenty years ago)

Trayce tells me it helps to be st0n3d.

Dr. Z Indahouse (AaronHz), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:23 (twenty years ago)

ANDREW IF YOU DIS THE BABLYON 5 WE CAN NO LONGER BE FRIENDS.

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:24 (twenty years ago)

I thought we were already sworn enemies?!

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:24 (twenty years ago)

::cries::

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:25 (twenty years ago)

Well if you want to be friends, that's fine.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:25 (twenty years ago)

Right there's a horse in this chick's living room, this is just getting extreme.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:26 (twenty years ago)

No, you just dissed me and Bablyon 5 in one fell swoop. I'll just sob in the corner here.

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:26 (twenty years ago)

I didn't diss you. I seriously thought you didn't like me. Anyhow, Babylon 5 is utter crap and I'm not going to move on that point.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:27 (twenty years ago)

You actually thought I disliked you? Wow. That's unfortunate. I know that we've had spats in the past, but honestly, I try to have a goldfish memory with regards to that sort of thing, unless it's serious or long-term enough to f*ck up my life. There are very few folks on ILX I actively dislike. Seriously.

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:30 (twenty years ago)

ugh, babylon 5. my mother (the same woman with a star trek communicator badge) LOVES that show. she has a calendar and a mug with the ship on it.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:32 (twenty years ago)

Holy crap, Laura's dad is killing his niece.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:32 (twenty years ago)

Oh wait he didn't kill her, just fucked with her pretty badly.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:33 (twenty years ago)

Well, you know what, I like Star Trek, too! And Dr. Who. I'm sick of knee-jerk anti-sci-fi anti-nerd prejudice. Humph.

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:35 (twenty years ago)

Hey, I like Start Trek and Dr. Who. I'm a sci-fi nerd.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:35 (twenty years ago)

I just think B5 is so, so, so poor.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:35 (twenty years ago)

I mean, sure, yeah, a lot of sci-fi-geek-nerds *are* pretty freaking irritating and sad, but dismissing the entire genre because of it... that's like dissing *all* Rock ChiX0rs because of the sad twats who run around Hackney with "Libertine" scrawled on their arm.

x-post

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:36 (twenty years ago)

What do you not like about B5, then, Andrew? Which season did you start watching it at?

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:38 (twenty years ago)

I just saw random episodes of it and was pretty unconvinced by pretty much everything I saw. It all seemed extremely second-rate and uninspired stuff.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:39 (twenty years ago)

Like, I never got into serial-watching any sci-fi series, but I can easily sit down and watch a Star Trek episode, but if B5 is on it's just "BORING".

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:40 (twenty years ago)

i'm not saying it's nerdish. i just happen not to like babylon 5 and all of those sci-fi channel knock-off series with square-jawed people (and token friendly aliens) looked consterned in outer space.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:41 (twenty years ago)

Haha that's a pretty good analysis, lauren.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:41 (twenty years ago)

It's not really one of those things that you can just dip into random episodes of - it's much more of an over-arching storyline sort of thing.

I don't get the uninspired thing, though. I suppose it's much more a sort of philosophical and plot and character-driven thing than a TECH TECH SUPER SPACE SCIENCE STUFF OH WOW thing. I find the writing to be quite amazing, and its surprisingly well acted for a space opera.

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:42 (twenty years ago)

Oh wow he did kill her.

Well I guess I juts never got into it.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:44 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I guess I can see that it's really a thing for obsessives only. Noodles said he had the same problems getting into it.

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:45 (twenty years ago)

that's what my mother says. different strokes for different folks, horses for courses, etc etc.

xpost to kate's defense of b5

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:45 (twenty years ago)

I guess this means I'll probably *never* get The Spy to watch it now. Sigh.

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:47 (twenty years ago)

"Babylon 5 is a big pile of shit"

sorry, just doing obvious Spaced quote

Stevem On X (blueski), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:48 (twenty years ago)

Hey Kate you better check out the 3some thread. They tricked an admission out of me.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:48 (twenty years ago)

In a *barn*? That's not very imaginative!

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:52 (twenty years ago)

That's how I remember it anyway.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:54 (twenty years ago)

You just *thought* it was a barn. It was really a Vorlon spacecraft!

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:56 (twenty years ago)

Hot.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 13:12 (twenty years ago)

Bored now. Sigh.

The Phantom of the Operating System (kate), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 13:16 (twenty years ago)

hi

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 13:26 (twenty years ago)

Yo.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 13:27 (twenty years ago)

And that's a day for me. Goodnight.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 13:34 (twenty years ago)

I thoroughly recommend Stenc's reign at Siberia. The beers may be overpriced, but he isn't. (no idea what I mean by that)

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 18:26 (twenty years ago)

I think I will listen to Thee Shatners.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 18:26 (twenty years ago)

how did this thread get to be about tv shows i've never even seen?

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

We could change it.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 19:57 (twenty years ago)

that is true.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 20:03 (twenty years ago)

Geez I sleep for one night and Andrew disses B5 while I'm not looking, the nerve!
