Travis Bickle knifes a hobo - sponsored by American Express.

Bumfluff, Wednesday, 2 February 2005 16:57 (twenty years ago)

The reunion would come just in time for De Niro, whose reputation is eroding with critically panned films like "Meet the Fockers."

What, Boris and Natasha didn't relight the fire?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 16:58 (twenty years ago)

Dustin Hoffman could play an aged pimp!

Miles Finch, Wednesday, 2 February 2005 16:58 (twenty years ago)

Newspaper columnist attempts a funny.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 16:59 (twenty years ago)

now, what a 44 magnum can do to that article -- that you should see!

Miles Finch, Wednesday, 2 February 2005 17:01 (twenty years ago)

They should do a movie with all the characters that DeNiro has played in Scorsese movies together in one story. They could do it with camera tricks, like when Jean-Claude Van Damme played both the good guy and the bad guy in that one movie. So you could have Travis Bickle giving a ride to Jimmy from "Goodfellas", who's on his way to extort some money from Rupert Pupkin from "King of Comedy", who's in some shady business deal with Jake La Motta from "Raging Bull", etc, etc...

o. nate (onate), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 17:04 (twenty years ago)

I think the only way this would work was if Travis takes a holiday, say, to L.A. and gets caught up in the unseemily world of low-budget movie making.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 2 February 2005 17:05 (twenty years ago)

... in some shady business deal with Jake La Motta from "Raging Bull"... who is running from the law after killing the fuckhead from "Analyze This"...

That is unexpected.

i'm funny like that

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 17:21 (twenty years ago)

I can't really see this happening.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

Like doing this sequel wouldn't erode his reputation even MORE. Plus, I thought Meet the Fockers was relatively well-received; it's stuff like Hide and Seek that is really mystifying to me.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

Michael O'Donoghue's proposed comedic sequel to Easy Rider never got off the ground, let's hope this won't ... And they already did a funny/strange twist on TD with King of Comedy (Scorsese's true masterpiece).

I'd say $300 million b.o. for Fockers is all the "well-received" Bobby Dinero cares about now.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

What was the other terrible horror flick he was in? Godsend? Godspell? That was him, right? Does he really need to pay bills this badly these days?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 17:31 (twenty years ago)

surely everyone's qualms would be put to rest if this sequel were a MUSICAL

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 17:31 (twenty years ago)

"And they already did a funny/strange twist on TD with King of Comedy (Scorsese's true masterpiece)."

I agree. King of Comedy is a much better film (esp. when viewed through the filter of Reagan/Hinckley/Foster/etc.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 17:32 (twenty years ago)

Alex, I'm starting to like you when we're not testing for steroids.

>surely everyone's qualms would be put to rest if this sequel were a MUSICAL

btw, "New York, New York" is imminent on DVD -- first Scorsese film I saw.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 18:24 (twenty years ago)

Weirdly New York, New York is the ONE film of his I've not seen for some reason (actually that's not true, I've not seen the pre-Mean Streets Keitel film Who's That Knocking At My Door? or Boxcar Bertha or The Last Waltz either). I will put it on my Netflix queue right now though.

It won't be as good as Hide and Seek. Maybe Dakota will play the daughter of Jodie Foster's character, it will be that bad.

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 19:14 (twenty years ago)

Hm, will that inspire a new presidential assassin? *contemplates potential side-effects*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 19:20 (twenty years ago)

I WISH.
