The Onion AV Club, the section of music/book/film review reviews attached to the satirical newspaper, has now expanded to cover video games as well.

http://www.theonionavclub.com/feature/index.php?issue=4105

They start with interviews with Will Wright(Sim City, The Sims) and Howard Scott Warshaw (Atari 2600 guy), as well as giving Wil Wheaton a column to reflect on older games(_Gunslinger_ from the 2600 to begin with).

Since I now look forward more to each week's AV Club than the stuff in the actual Onion, I'm looking forward to what they'll do with this. They start off by reviewing Resident Evil 4 and Alien Hominid.

BUT HE WAS ON A TV SHOW! HE MUST KNOW ABOUT GAMES!

HE IS A TV SPACE NERD

WW also has a column in a D&D magazine. Clearly he is trying to make all acceptable forms of nerddom obsolete by crushing them beneath his prose.

does he still have that awful blog?

three years pass...

wow the new design of the AV club is just awful, like they threw it into some generic blog template...

yeah, i don't think it looks better or worse per se, but it's definitely harder to find what you're looking for

some dude, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 19:00 (sixteen years ago)

it doesnt tease the stories the way the old one did, where you could see at a glance whether something looked interesting or not. now it seems like you have to be really familiar with all the sections before you click

a bunch of film people have left to go to some new project. murmurings of a Pitchfork Film Site.

Film was always av club's strongest suit, imo. I give this idea a 7.8

sktsh, Saturday, 27 April 2013 09:12 (twelve years ago)

It's more than just film people, dudes. It's pretty much the entire old-school staff.

seems like everyone is unhappy with the management over at onion/av club these days huh

onion's been pretty funny lately. maybe all that anger/resentment's paying off.

Couldn't they have left Rabin behind?

JoeStork, Saturday, 27 April 2013 15:29 (twelve years ago)

Well, the comedy staff is another matter, and they pretty much had 75% turnover a few months back when most of the staff quit rather than move back to the midwest.

RIP to the AV Club, once one of the best pop culture sites on the internet and soon to be a slideshow factory and sweatshop for writers. I hope Jim Spanfeller steps on a rusty nail https://t.co/Q4jHNxTkxP

Ah shit. Time was the avclub was a daily visit for me, long before the sell-offs and site reformats

I get that they’ve basically turned into a clickbait factory, but this is gross: https://www.avclub.com/80-for-brady-apparently-cut-a-scene-with-a-gay-kiss-1850085526

Man, the cultural transitory moment of the mid-late 00s sure was something, hunh, right as what had been sidelined as nerd culture eventually subsumed all of pop culture.
