The best part of the chat is how it's some generic program they're running rather than a custom built thing, but they did a poor job of customizing it. For example, check out the pull down menu of different smileys. One of them is supposed to be a middle finger, but when you try to use it, the program auto-censors it like a curse word and turns it into %*$&*#&*.

You mean Panopticon, Jeremy Bentham's prison concept. It was used in the design of a lot of Victorian British prisons - Strangeways is one of the best examples.

Some guy in an orange jumpsuit is now being watched by four other inmates in the blue outfits. The Sherriff looks like he's touching the orange guy's stuff. Oh wait, now orange guy is shuffling around like a gangsta. The guy behind the desk looks like he's shooting the shit with the guys in the blue. Maybe they're support guys instead of other inmates?

xpost - not sure how it works in county jail, but in federal prison the orange jumpsuits are used for inmates that are in "the hole" or isolation ward.

just witnessed a guy in orange repeatedly try to use a payphone and was told to sit down. finally a female guard maced him (and in turn pretty much everyone else in the room!)
