So Tom and I (ptee is in spain (real actual spain, not "spain")) are playing a set at Nambucca on Holloway Road next Thursday, as part of an evening called "Hit and Miss" who do all sorts of things, they've got v-twin on tonight apparently, and are in the pick of the week in Time Out, so it must be cool [ahem].

aaaanyway, it would be very nice if some of you could come along and have a dance/drink/etc, it's free to get in to the best of my knowledge, and drinks will be cheaper than the chapel (well it'd be hard to be more expensive).

will post with further details of what time we're on etc once Tom has found out.

The listings page on their site says: Freaky Trigger DJs: Contributors to the always excellent www.freakytrigger.co.uk and organisers of Club Popular pay us a visit. These guys love pop music and are a mission to show the world that it's still a genre worth adoring. A noble cause we think you'll agree. Leave your preconceptions at home and get ready to be surprised. This one is going to be FUN.

Seems like they know what they're in for at least :)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 3 February 2005 12:06 (twenty years ago)

haha 'pop' = genre? do they have a comments box? i thought this one had been laid to rest long ago...

Miles Finch, Thursday, 3 February 2005 12:07 (twenty years ago)

aw bless them though, i don't think they are music theorists/aware of the ilm kulturwars ;)

at least they're not expecting us to play deep soul or whatever it is they usually play...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 3 February 2005 13:18 (twenty years ago)

apparently we're DJing 9-11.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 3 February 2005 15:10 (twenty years ago)

sounds ominous.

Miles Finch, Thursday, 3 February 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

Boo, I am in Spain when we DJ in the place nearest my house.

It is also very near the Swimmer, so if it is crap, you can go there.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 3 February 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

thanks for the vote of confidence, so-called fellow dj ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 3 February 2005 16:07 (twenty years ago)

Hang on, they play deep soul at other times? Not that I would go to just hear that and leave while you're playing or anything...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 3 February 2005 18:10 (twenty years ago)

ooh heck, i don't want to get into genre definitions or anything. frankly i think they play older poppier soul and general groovy stuff, there's a flyer somewhere...

http://www.webflyers.co.uk/Flyer/1625

ah, more funk than soul then, sorry to get you all excited martin ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 4 February 2005 10:35 (twenty years ago)

FUNK SOUL BROTHER

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Friday, 4 February 2005 10:47 (twenty years ago)

play some big beat, that'll really shock 'em

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Friday, 4 February 2005 10:48 (twenty years ago)

the drinks will be cheaper at the nambucca than at the swimmer at least.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 4 February 2005 11:02 (twenty years ago)

Will prolly be there if nowt else comes up

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 4 February 2005 11:38 (twenty years ago)

This is going to be good, I'm stumped as to what to play mind you. The drinks will be cheaper, well maybe, or else they'll be better. I'm not sure there's an actual dancefloor or anything, just turn up, drink and treat it like an evening down the pub.

Anyway we need to get practise at DJing outside our Chapel comfort zone for when the Exciting Thing is arranged soon.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 7 February 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

i'll be there. might have to be careful though, it'll be the first of three nights of dancing in a row, and there's the dreaded 9am lecture on friday morning.

toby (tsg20), Monday, 7 February 2005 19:56 (twenty years ago)

tobe, you need to sort this out, i'm sure your students wouldn't mind ;)

this reminds me of my studeing days when we used to arrange our timetable to make sure we had nothing on a thursday morning (weds being our big night out)...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 12:05 (twenty years ago)

I should think for dancing they'll clear the tables out of the back where the stage and DJ gear is. The pub's quite handily divided into two sections with big squashy sofas at the front and a dank smoking den behind. It could easily double as an indie toilet venue.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 12:07 (twenty years ago)

Hey Tom, what about some pop classics from 1974?

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 8 February 2005 12:19 (twenty years ago)

I don't think I can come to this :(

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 13:07 (twenty years ago)

ahem bump ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 12:44 (twenty years ago)

I plan to show up.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 12:53 (twenty years ago)

I wanna come! See you there i hope.

beanz (beanz), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 12:59 (twenty years ago)

I can't decide whether to go or not... cause I'm going to be at a job interview in the morning, and will probably be in a bloody SUIT and I know from experience now not to wear suits while dancing. Catty and I are going to a movie in the afternoon, otherwise I could go home and change. Ach. What to do?

Kate Kept Me Alive! (kate), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 13:00 (twenty years ago)

I know from experience now not to wear suits while dancing.

what kind of experience was this? every experience i had of dancing in suits has been positive.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 13:01 (twenty years ago)

You'll have more fun dancing with mates for free whatever you're wearing than you would in front of the tv, i reckon.
xpost

beanz (beanz), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 13:02 (twenty years ago)

I ruined one suit at The Spy's birthday. And it was my good suit, too. :-(

I shall have to bring clothes in a bag and change.

Kate Kept Me Alive! (kate), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 13:04 (twenty years ago)

Pop classics from 1974? Yeah, why not!

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 19:28 (twenty years ago)

Man o man I wish I could be in ya area!

Here are some sug-gestations for you. Ray Stevens "The Streak", Cher "Halfbreed" .. or "Suit Jacket and Jeans" by the Stinky Munchkins!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

I can almost guarantee that one of those will be played

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 20:18 (twenty years ago)

(of course that was my dumb husband that posted that)

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

Will there be any Nick Garrie or Terry Durham?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 21:39 (twenty years ago)

you kids are funny ;)

i am slightly hungover due to TROY...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 10 February 2005 11:30 (twenty years ago)

i'm looking forward to this, although i'll probably be more sedate than at official club FTs, since i don't fancy being hung over tomorrow.

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 10 February 2005 11:43 (twenty years ago)

three years pass...

how weird. i went to somewhere similar to TROY last night and on my way back home i walked past the nambucca and it was all blocked up with massive sign saying "DANGEROUS STRUCTURE" on it seems like there's been a fire there?????? :|
