Can anyone recommend a half decent gui sftp client for apple mac?

There is a fairly decent freeware one out there. Unfortunately, I've forgotten its name.

(we used it at my old job. We did have problems with uploaded files being corrupted occasionally, though - they would get truncated to a fraction of their actual length - so you're probably best off avoiding it anyway)

works v well with TextWrangler (and others). They've now replaced the old reliable twins of Interarchie and BBedit, with the "Apple-J" editing in place on a webserver FTP site function. LOVELY
