He fell off his boat and drowned while drunk, didn't he?

I met him a couple of times and he seemed like a very nice man, and totally dedicated to providing a quality comedy experience for punters.

I think my first exposure was probably the Balloon Dance on OTT (the 'adult' TISWAS), and while I was never a huge fan his influence on the London comedy circuit is undeniable.

Plus he gave us Vic Reeves.

Bollocks.

This being some sort of mad Robert Maxwell joke? What a way to go...

Fuck fuck fuck. A proper local legend, we used to go down to the Up The Creek club regularly and I only saw him in there a few months ago. :(

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 3 February 2005 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

really? wow. my first encounter with him was his feature on the naturists enclosure at Glastonbury '95 as part of Channel 4's coverage of said event. the only other thing i can recall right now is an anecdote from Mark Lamarr about the time Hardee urinated on a man in the audience who had fallen asleep during his act.

This needs more attention.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 4 February 2005 09:14 (twenty-one years ago)

i dunno, what is there to say?

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Friday, 4 February 2005 10:30 (twenty-one years ago)

a mate of mine lives on one of the houseboats by the wibbly-wobbly in greenwich, and every time i've seen him over the past year or so, there's always been another great malcolm story.

i've always said you're not really at glastonbury until you've seen malcolm hardee's bollocks...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 4 February 2005 10:44 (twenty-one years ago)

were they in the New Bands tent?

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Friday, 4 February 2005 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Comedy/Cabaret. That's both factual and funny.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 4 February 2005 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, his son was in a no mark indie band, not seafood, something like that though, so you're kind of both right :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 4 February 2005 11:24 (twenty-one years ago)

The Llama Farmers, right?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 4 February 2005 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

The Wibbly Wobbly is in Surrey Quays rather than Greenwich, no? Mandee and I stopped to take a photo of it a couple of years ago, and angry old harridan came out and told us to piss off!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 4 February 2005 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd forgotten all about that barge pub - didn't we go there one summer evening with Sez and Tim in '99 or so, Jerry?

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 4 February 2005 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes - just after we'd moved to Hollyoak Court, I think. I remember bashing my head on the ceiling - a rarity for me.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 4 February 2005 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

it's all south of the river to me (desptie various promises on both sides, i've never actually been down to his boat)
