All reports indicate that Michel Simon conducted his private life in the manner of one of his gross, eccentric film characters: he lived alone on a huge country estate, sharing space with a pet parrot and four apes.

Lorsqu'il ne travaille pas, il se repose dans sa maison de banlieue, où il mène une vie particulière, bien à lui. Il y vit dans un beau jardin, près d'une volière remplie d'oiseaux rares, et en curieuse compagnie d'un singe et d'une guenon, qui l'amusent par leurs démarches et leurs grimaces. Mais ce n'est pas tout : y résident également une douzaine de chats et un saint-bernard imposant. Enfin, à la belle saison, une famille d'hirondelles a pénétré carrément dans l'intimité de Michel Simon et elle a fait son nid à l'intérieur de la maison, dans un cabinet de débarras.

I don't know why you've brought him up, Amateurist, but I love you for it. He's great in 'L'Atalante' and 'Quai des Brumes'.

Having an ape and baboon together sounds problematic to me.

i want to convey my thoughts about michel simon, but i find myself at a loss for words.

i'm sure if anyone could make an ape and a baboon get along, it's michel simon. i think i'll write a song about that now.

holy crap that poster is great.

one of my old bosses had a 6-foot-wide original "l'atlante" poster in his den. that's the sort of thing that makes me drool. i think i prefer old french movie posters to women, sometimes.

Il y’a deux ans lorsque ma copine et moi étions à Paris, elle m’a demandé si on pouvait aller voir la maision qu’avait habitée Nancy Mitford Rue Monsieur. On a fait une petite balade, la façade n’étant rien de remarquable nous nous sommes remis en route. Là où la Rue Monsieur croise la Rue Babylone, en face de La Pagode, se trouve une petite boutique specialisé en la vente des affiches du cinéma. Puisq’elle est cinéphile, on y est rentrés voir ce qu’ils avaient. Elle a demandé sans savoir exactement pourquoi s’ils avaient du Pagnol et ils ont sorti l’affiche de ‘La Femme du Boulanger’ que j’ai affichée ci-dessus, pas l’affiche de la première sortie du film mais celle de la fin des années quarante. Elle était alors très enthousiamée pour les oeuvres de Dubout et leur a demandé le prix. 1000 Euros. Juste avant notre voyage, on m’avait licencié et on comptait donce nos sous, alors on ne l’a pas achetée.

Bon. Novembre passé en visite à Paris, on se promenait Rue de Baylone et on s’est dit, “Allons voir ce qu’ils ont de nouveau.” Ils n’avait pas l’affiche à la boutique parce-qu’elle était en train de retoilé. De retour chez nous, on a marchandé avec eux (faiblesse du dollar, etc…) et on l’a eue pour 800 Euros. Elle s’est dit que ça devait être le déstin qui l’a mise dans nos mains et pour comble de bonheur, son père a payé l’encadrement (qui n’était pas bon marché) comme cadeau d’anniversaire.
