Gang-related violence: C or D?

Tragic waste of a generation? Or a useful service, getting each other off the streets and doing the cops' job for them? Or just something dreamt-up to sell papers and make a police state inevitable?

I prefered it in West Side Story when they just clicked their fingers and danced provocatively at each other.

It's a fact: crack cocaine was invented by the government, and smuggled into the country and injected into inner cities by the CIA to keep the underclass under control. Gang warfare is the same way. Why is it the only time it ever gets mentioned in the media when it explodes and kills "nice middle class people" by accident. It's far more convenient to keep the underclass at each others throats instead of noticing their real problems.

Ditto for crazy supremecists and other out of control conspiracy theory groups. This was documented in that fabulous book, _Them_ - that the government hires plants to go into these kinds of organisations to tear them apart from the inside and discredit them in the outside world.

A useful service - without it there would be nothing for the homies to rap about. Can you imagine a world without rap? What would Snoop Dogg do?

I hate the way large corporations market images of gang culture to white suburban middle class youths for big profits. THey shoud at least use the profits to build affordable housing.

Did anyone here ever see the West Side Story parody on SNL? It had the Jets and the Sharks all dancing with each other, and Norm MacDonald was their new recruit. He couldn't understand all the dancing, he was like, why are you dancing instead of fighting? What's going on here? The best line I ever heard was "Yeah, I have a dance for you, it's called 'While You Dance I'm Going To Stab You In The Head'".

apparently gangland is two blocks down the road from me, but i've been here 6 months and never had a hassle - maybe they're just bashing the shit out of each other instead of us queers for once. who knows?

Not a gang area, I gather, but where my girlfriend lives in London has been the site of not one but two murders in recent times just around the corner from her flat. Adds a little useful paranoia to life.
