My cable bill. And, pretty soon, home furnishings.

Yr3k (dymaxia), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I broke the bookbuying habit in general thanks to me finally realizing "Look, I'm just reading all this stuff from the library anyway, why buy books all the time?" And so a few cheap exceptions aside I don't -- but! I do have the indulgent habit of getting editions from the Folio Society, so that makes up for it. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

This past week, 12 packs of Miller High Life were on sale at this store I go to for $5.99. That's, like, $.50 a beer! Compared to the $2.75/$3.00 I would spend on the exact same beer at a bar...I realize now where so much of my money has gone.

Lunch is a BIG budget-eater. Since I've started bringing things to eat as opposed to getting something from one of the nearest eateries, my lunch spending has shot down from like almost sometimes as much as $50 a week, down to like $10.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Lunch is a BIG budget-eater.

I've got lunch down to a science now -- I buy cheap iced tea courtesy of Tejava, a reasonable enough brand that comes in large bottles for a buck, and keep it in my office minifridge. I bring in an apple for dessert. And finally for the main meal I either buy a sandwich from Lee's across the street -- $2 at most, and it's a great near foot-long French/Vietnamese sammich with many choices of fillings -- or else hit a salad bar on campus and pick up a breadstick with that, also around $2 or so total. V. handy.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I never go out to lunch, I'm so smart and wise.

BUT my expensive habits are:

cosmetics

the gym

now that i have given up cigarettes i feel like i should just be super healthy and annoying.

youn, Thursday, 10 February 2005 03:20 (twenty-one years ago)

digital cable (can't live without it)
high-speed internet access (ditto)
music (even with sticking to secondhand stores)
medical expenses (inc. prescriptions, though in all fairness my prescription bill is only, like, $30 a month)
COFFEE (can't be arsed to make it at home)

That's it, really. Everything else I'm so careful about budget-wise that it's either a great deal or something that doesn't cut that much into my budget. (I mean, really, when you think about it, spending $6 on lunch three days a week is pretty downright cheap, isn't it?)

Quizno's Subs sandwich and chips
Thundercloud Subs sandwich meal [thank you Austin!]
the three-sides choice at Luby's
large salad at Jason's Deli
bbq chicken plate from a couple of bbq places
um, and others that equal a bit under $6.)

Surreal Addiction (Dee the Lurker), Thursday, 10 February 2005 03:29 (twenty-one years ago)

This week, takeout pho (or tonight Singapore Rice Noodles with lots of extra chili sauce on top) for lunch and dinner. I've had a cold for a few days now, so I'm trying to unstuff my nose & feel better. I don't know what I'll do when I get colds if I ever move somewhere with no good Vietnamese restaurants... walk around stuffed up, I guess.
