Is it only girls that freeze people out? do blokes ever do this?

I still do this occasionally when a friend - or more often boyfriend - does/says something extremely hurtful. I think a bloke in the same situation would tend to hurt the other person right back. you know, say something equally/more awful. Maybe that is a healthier response but knowing how painful it is to be on the receiving end, I'm extremely reluctant to deliberately inflict such hurt on anyone else. Hence The Big Freeze. Sometimes it's partly a defence mechanism, but more often I think it's an emotionally immature and fucked-up form of 'punishment'. Emotional manipulation, I suppose. It's an old habit, learnt as a kid, and I'm pretty ashamed to admit that I haven't outgrown it.

Reading back over this, I realise that what I'm describing is probably textbook passive-aggressive behaviour.

Am I the only poster who read the start of this thread and thought: "hang on, this reads like a Calum post"

Nah, I did too.

Boy howdy have I had guys do the freezeout on me. It always astonishes me that a guy in his 20s would act in such a pathetically childish way, but Ive had more than one b/f who decided suddenly not speaking to me at all was the best way to break up with me or be pissed off.

I've had more guys do it to me than girls, but thats probably due to my repellant personality.
