I await the Holy Darn13ll3 to sex us with prayer healing.. or is that heal us with sexual praying? Something like that. And we got some stony treats from Vancouver as well in the form of Black Mountain. I will be there for at least Black Mountain (the first band) and The Mountain Goats (the headliner). See some of you there hopefully.

In the meantime, any plans to meet up somewhere in downtown for dinner before hand.. like the Pike Brewery or maybe just the Croc itself? Or Noodle Ranch?

Momus Goats/Black Momus has infiltrated the proceedings. Oh, damn.

donut christ (donut), Thursday, 10 February 2005 07:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm gonna miss this due to a friend's birthday party happening earlier, sadly.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Thursday, 10 February 2005 08:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to see this, and I would love to be there, except that due to the events of 9/11, the government now requires some kind of card other than passport/driver's licence in order for Landed Immigrants to get back in to Canada. This sucks, since I've lived here since 1988, much of my adult life, but it's the rules. Therefore, without it, I can leave Canada, but I can't get back in. Even though it's my home, complete with an actual life, a 10-yr-old son, a fully Canadian partner, a part time University course, friends, neighbours, hosers, soccer moms and dads and everything else.

And yet, I really shouldn't whine, since I have mousy brown hair and eyes as blue as a stormy sea, which shunts me into a completely different lineup most times, sickeningly racist as that is.

David A. (Davant), Thursday, 10 February 2005 08:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, pissy fucking mood.

David A. (Davant), Thursday, 10 February 2005 08:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Um. I'm sorry.

I'll be there, though! I was going to mention this -- my old roommate Ry@n and I are going, and current roommates J@ke and Jo@nie will probably be there as well. We'll be coming up Friday, and are planning on spending quality time Saturday at the library (which Ry@n hasn't seen). So.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 10 February 2005 21:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Revive?

Maybe dinner before the show, or something?

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 11 February 2005 21:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm down with that... any preferences?

donut christ (donut), Friday, 11 February 2005 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

(Quick note to say -- LA show *mighty* great, so rock on Seattle. :-))

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 February 2005 21:51 (twenty-one years ago)

It's your town, I dunno. ;-) But presumably someplace downtown? I'll probably call tomorrow afternoon.

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 12 February 2005 02:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I talked to Jak3 y J0ani3 already, and they will be staying at my place most likely tomorrow evening. I take it you and Ry@n have a place to stay already.

are you guys in the mood for going to a boat sushi place in Fremont, instead? (there are vegetarian options there) See, I'm trying to think of a place in downtown that would be cheap, good, and not crowded on a Saturday, or at least have two of the three, and I can't think of one.

Maybe the Honey Hole on Pike St. just south of Broadway? Good place to get a sandwich/fries combo while avoiding the crowds at the Elysian Brewery.

donut christ (donut), Saturday, 12 February 2005 02:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I've not been to this Honey Hole!

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Saturday, 12 February 2005 05:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Morley is back! The goal = GOAT CONCERT ROCK!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 12 February 2005 05:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm still waiting for Morley Timmons to convert to Black Chomsky!

donut debonair (donut), Saturday, 12 February 2005 05:21 (twenty-one years ago)

(as discussed on a trip down to Portland to see the Thinking Fellers half a year ago?)

donut debonair (donut), Saturday, 12 February 2005 05:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I was briefly Black Chomsky. You were there! It's just not something you can force. I'll have to try being Black Nader first or something.

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Saturday, 12 February 2005 07:37 (twenty-one years ago)

haha I will be among the crowds at the Elysian--that's where my friend's birthday party is. afterwards, Goats.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Saturday, 12 February 2005 09:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Dinner + show sounds good to me. (Martin, alas, is out of town this weekend.) Honeyhole? Noodle Ranch? Floating sushi? What's the verdict?

Jen (nstop), Saturday, 12 February 2005 09:33 (twenty-one years ago)

engagement party tonight for my cousin, so have fun you guys :)

ronny longjohns (ronny longjohns), Saturday, 12 February 2005 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to a hockey game tonight. :(

See, I'm trying to think of a place in downtown that would be cheap, good, and not crowded on a Saturday, or at least have two of the three, and I can't think of one.

->Two Bells, La Vita e Bella, Uwa Kitchen...

lyra (lyra), Saturday, 12 February 2005 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

yo Matos, can I still be your plus one?

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Saturday, 12 February 2005 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

well, whatever place it is will have to accomodate a lot of people.. I'm almost thinking we should just make it the Elysian.. though we'll try not to infiltrate the b-day party Matos is attending. :)

donut debonair (donut), Saturday, 12 February 2005 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Although something near the crocodile would be nice... but I can't think of place right near that will host a lot of people.. Lyra? I never heard of the places you mentioned above... unless Uwa Kitchen refers to the Uwajimaya food court?

donut debonair (donut), Saturday, 12 February 2005 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

..and that's not really SHORT walking distance, but it is walking distance, none the less.

donut debonair (donut), Saturday, 12 February 2005 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, fuck this wishi-washiness.

We meet at the Crocodile at 6:30pm... remember that it is a restaurant, too, with decent burger/sandwich/fries fare. We can decide then if we want to venture over to another place or just eat the Croc. I figure this is the simplest plan, and easiest for everybody.

donut debonair (donut), Saturday, 12 February 2005 23:04 (twenty-one years ago)

DB, you need to eat around Belltown more often- all 3 of those places are near me. =)

Two Bells= great burgers, so I guess not good for vegetarians. it's a bar/pub on 4th, between Battery and Bell. Across from the fire dept. Cheap food, and it's hardly ever packed. It reminds me of old-school pre-1999 Belltown, kind of hard to find around here these days.

La Vita e Bella- cheap Italian place on 2nd on the block Matos used to live on (between Wall and Battery). They have an attached pizzaria which is also yummy but I think it's a bit more expensive. It's tiny, but I've been with big groups a few times and they managed to fit us all in.

UWA Kitchen = 2nd between Vine and Cedar. Sushi/tempura/etc. It's a brand new place, I've only had their sushi, but that's tasty. It's always empty bc it's so new.

lyra (lyra), Sunday, 13 February 2005 03:23 (twenty-one years ago)

let us all know how the show goes, please!

derrick (derrick), Sunday, 13 February 2005 03:50 (twenty-one years ago)

show was great! full-band ending (Vanderslice joined on electric--flew up for the show, apparently) and two encores. about 1/3 stuff from the forthcoming album (out 4/26). J0hn was in terrific voice.

I will second Lyra's recommendation of Two Bells.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Sunday, 13 February 2005 10:48 (twenty-one years ago)

The show was very good. We ended up just driving home afterwards, so now I am in my own bed, which is nice. My cat is also happy.

Anyone figure out the name of that last Huschle song?

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 13 February 2005 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it was probably called "Rome".. Not sure what Furniture Huschle release it is off -- if it's been released at all, but it's not the first time the Mountain Goats performed it live, after doing a little googling.

donut debonair (donut), Sunday, 13 February 2005 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

So yeah, the show was excellent... I love the dynamic of the new standing-up John. I hope it remains. And Peter's New-Order's-"temptation" story was great.

donut debonair (donut), Sunday, 13 February 2005 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

We didn't get the New Order story! *cries* You must share.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 13 February 2005 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

The New Order story was about what happened at your show. When they played "Bluejays and Cardinals", I think, and they couldn't get the riff between verses right -- I guess they played the whole song in different keys in L.A., and they just got the riff part wrong until the very end. This was likened to a live performance of "Temptation" that was released a few years ago where [insert name here] gets the simple three-chord chorus part wrong every time it comes up, and wrong in a different way, as if he is still trying to figure it out, but it's a very simple three chord thing, and then at the end of eight minutes he FINALLY gets it right, and it's a glorious moment. "It only took us two and a half minutes," added John, "and that's why we're better than New Order."

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 13 February 2005 22:10 (twenty-one years ago)

name inserted there: Barney Sumner

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Sunday, 13 February 2005 22:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Mille grazie.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 14 February 2005 02:12 (twenty-one years ago)

what about black mountain? I'm listening to 'Set Us Free' all the time now.

derrick (derrick), Monday, 14 February 2005 07:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Black Mountain were much better live than the tracks I heard off the record.. they really should go on tour with the Dandy Warhols or Black Rebel Motorcycle Club or, if they're brave enough, the Brian Jonestown Massacre. But whereas these bands are more meth and sugar, this band is opium and incense. The Blue Cheer/Sugarloaf/Sabbath/Spacemen 3-isms were strong.

And hair obscuring faces everywhere. That said, they're not super high energy like Comets On Fire or Kinski.. they kinda plod around live, but I guess that's the whole point.
