Pinefox in NYC

I will be in New York for a few days next week. It would be nice to meet one or two NYC ilxors, for the first time or again. I know that a FAP is already lined up for next Friday, but maybe NYC ilxors could say on this thread if they would like to meet for a drink, or some other fun activity, before then also.

the springfox, Thursday, 10 February 2005 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I would like to, but it depends on my schedule which is really erratic sometimes. What days are you here?

Allyzay Dallas Multi-Pass (allyzay), Thursday, 10 February 2005 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

O, no! LA misses you more.

youn, Thursday, 10 February 2005 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

What a treat! I can do this almost any day after work. ("Work"!) We could even do something uptown.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 10 February 2005 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

OH SHIT, uptown means I will most definitely make it, any night we do it.

Allyzay Dallas Multi-Pass (allyzay), Thursday, 10 February 2005 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I smell a steering committee being assembled.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 10 February 2005 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope you bring your guitar and meet LC. Somehow, I believe he should be interested in meeting you.

youn, Thursday, 10 February 2005 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Yo, Tracer, does this work preclude replying to emails.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 10 February 2005 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I smell a steering committee being assembled

Good to see Tracer bringing his fancy new British ways back with him.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 10 February 2005 15:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes my webmail accounts are blocked.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 10 February 2005 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Huh, well now my gmail works all of a sudden.

How about Eden?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 10 February 2005 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Eden, the freaky black lacquer Euro quesadilla bar on Broadway and like 105th?

Paul Eater (eater), Thursday, 10 February 2005 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Are they fancy quesadillas?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 February 2005 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I've never been there. I just wanted to sound like I knew something about uptown.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 10 February 2005 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know how fancy the quesadillas are. But how fancy could a quesadilla be?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 10 February 2005 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

people do horrible things with goats cheese and arugula and the like in the name of fancy.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 10 February 2005 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

See, now I want to go to this "Name of Fancy" place.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 10 February 2005 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

They are so not fancy.

Paul Eater (eater), Thursday, 10 February 2005 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

tracer, mhairi's coming down this wkend!!

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 10 February 2005 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder when she was going to tell me about that.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 10 February 2005 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

to london, not ny.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 10 February 2005 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Broadway Dive (a little small)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 10 February 2005 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah okay!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 10 February 2005 17:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I think there were possibilities of central park ice skating and perhaps a Friday paywhatyouwant trip to the MOMA. Does anyone know any kids that would be willing to play stickball in front of a Brooklyn stoop for a couple of minutes?

S!monB!rch (Carey), Thursday, 10 February 2005 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Broadway Dive? You might as well walk up the street into my neighborhood and do the Ding Dong or something.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 10 February 2005 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Let's do the ding dong in the name of the fancy! But we should wait for the uptown steering committee before taking a final decision.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 10 February 2005 22:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Obviously we will go to all those bars and more.

Ice skating (uptown) sounds very nice too.

Paul Eater (eater), Thursday, 10 February 2005 22:17 (twenty-one years ago)

We could even do something uptown.

P. Nelson Rogers reveals himself.

Deerninja B4rim4, Plus-Tech Whizz Kid (Barima), Thursday, 10 February 2005 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, I am definitely up for a Friday afternoon MOMA trip preMatos FAP.

I have Tuesday and Wednesday days free, too, for day time excursions, possibly.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 11 February 2005 00:01 (twenty-one years ago)

We should take the Pinefox to Burritoville.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 11 February 2005 00:02 (twenty-one years ago)

DING DONG WAS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING.

Allyzay Dallas Multi-Pass (allyzay), Friday, 11 February 2005 01:12 (twenty-one years ago)

No one knows me, but I live in MYC, and would like to meet some of you (he says meekly)

paulhw (paulhw), Friday, 11 February 2005 01:33 (twenty-one years ago)

No one knows me, but I live in N
YC, and would like to meet some of you (he says meekly)

paulhw (paulhw), Friday, 11 February 2005 01:33 (twenty-one years ago)

you should come then

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 11 February 2005 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

We should all promise paulw that we will not snack upon him if he comes out.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 11 February 2005 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

please take good care of the Pinefox.

DV (dirtyvicar), Saturday, 12 February 2005 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Will the Pinefox report back on "The Gates"?

youn, Sunday, 13 February 2005 05:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Possibly! We are going to the park on Tuesday.

There is interest in a Tuesday evening/night FAP.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 14 February 2005 02:06 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, good! I hope he finds a story about Central Park, if it will help him to enjoy it all the more.

youn, Monday, 14 February 2005 04:07 (twenty-one years ago)

did we ever decide to do anything? Tuesday night is ok for me.

Allyzay Dallas Multi-Pass (allyzay), Monday, 14 February 2005 05:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't go out Tuesday night (but Friday night YES) so if anyone has any good ideas, I can pass them on Tuesday day.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 14 February 2005 05:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, if anyone needs/wants my cell phone #, email me.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 14 February 2005 05:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Of course we decided to do something, Ally it's just the what and the where that's been slipping through our fingers. What a shambles! I think we only have him for a couple of days before he becomes empanelled in one of our academic eyries somewhere. So I feel that we must act fast. We've got the where: the Ding Dong lounge. (It reckons.) Is Tuesday the only night you can make it out, Ally? I can do any time.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 14 February 2005 06:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Tuesday is great for me: I think I'm going out of town Wed-Fri.

Paul Eater (eater), Monday, 14 February 2005 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Tuesday at the Ding-Dong Lounge then? I will let our guest know.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 14 February 2005 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I can do it any night of the week, Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday. After 7.30 is best on Tues/Thurs.

Allyzay Dallas Multi-Pass (allyzay), Monday, 14 February 2005 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, I'm going to have a delicious drink or two at the Ding Dong Lounge (Columbus Avenue between 105th and 106th Streets) tonight at 7:30. I hope I won't be completely alone.

Paul Eater (eater), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

That sounds great, Paul! But does the Pinefox know? I have no idea how to get in touch with him!

In any case, I'll see you up there. The ding to your dong.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be there too for a bit then.

Allyzay Dallas Multi-Pass (allyzay), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

You meant "for a bite" right?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks for listening and saying hello, Curmudgeon!

Mike was at Artisphere but he's five or six players away from making a real challenge. In many ways he's 30 points off the pace.

Horseshoe, are you leaving NYC? A pity as I will be back tomorrow.

Brooklyn botanics on Saturday sounds OK idea to me, can we muster a team to do that?

Rosemary, let's meet on Tuesday afternoon then - at 3 maybe?

I saw a Yeungling last night at Artisphere!

the pinefox, Sunday, 8 April 2012 17:25 (thirteen years ago)

I have to work Tuesday, there are buyers coming that day.

Are you free Wednesday after your lunch?

I heard the Pines on the radio this evening.

tokyo rosemary, Sunday, 8 April 2012 23:37 (thirteen years ago)

I was there with the kids for The Pines on Friday (took them home around 9) and without the kids for the duration on Saturday. Not sure if I'll have any babysitting cover for the NJ and NYC BT/Pines shows so may not see those. But that's OK, Fri/Sat were great and that's as much live music as I expected to see on this trip. Anything else is a bonus, Brian.

Michael Jones, Sunday, 8 April 2012 23:52 (thirteen years ago)

I think a certain LP might be avail for child-minding? Not to speak for her but I don't think she's going to shows.

how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Monday, 9 April 2012 04:16 (thirteen years ago)

somebody email me w/ name of Pinefox's band

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Monday, 9 April 2012 11:17 (thirteen years ago)

The Pines!

Rosemary, yes I should have said Wednesday. Though I think I need to be at the Bk venue by about 6:30 to soundcheck.

the pinefox, Monday, 9 April 2012 12:38 (thirteen years ago)

Where do you want to meet tomorrow?

tokyo rosemary, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 11:54 (thirteen years ago)

I guess Manhattan!

the pinefox, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 14:54 (thirteen years ago)

Ha ha.

I can come to wherever you will be.

tokyo rosemary, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 15:51 (thirteen years ago)

Rosemary, this is where I will be from 1:30 lunch tomorrow:

--- Otto on 8th Street between 5th Ave. and University Place.

I think I might need till 3. Meet you at a subway stop near there at 3?

I have a cell phone though I don't think I know its number, did you send me yours?

the pinefox, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 23:33 (thirteen years ago)

I emailed you mine.

I can meet you on the corner of 8th St and 5th Ave at 3.

tokyo rosemary, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 23:51 (thirteen years ago)

I'm looking forward to Thursday. I'm sure the Chickfactor shows have been fabulous so far!

I signed up for an event Saturday afternoon. Maybe I could skip it, but I would feel guilty.

Is anyone interested in going to this?
http://www.mercuryloungenyc.com/event/101891

I'm interested in Coasting, and just finding out about Chain and the Gang. I have this feeling the Pinefox would not approve of these bands.

youn, Wednesday, 11 April 2012 02:22 (thirteen years ago)

The shows have indeed been good so far. Tonight in Brooklyn contained so many people I knew, it was like walking into a surprise party.

actually I think a highlight tonight for me was telling Linton about my admiration for The Aislers Set. my opinion seemed to be slightly more appreciated than I might have imagined.

the pinefox, Wednesday, 11 April 2012 06:34 (thirteen years ago)

last night from ilx btw: Nabisco, Laurel, Tim Hopkins, Steady Mike

the pinefox, Wednesday, 11 April 2012 13:19 (thirteen years ago)

SO AWESOME YOU GUYS

how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Wednesday, 11 April 2012 14:34 (thirteen years ago)

I am the happiest Laurel! Can't you all come play shows like at least every other month or so, so we can do this again?

how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Wednesday, 11 April 2012 14:34 (thirteen years ago)

I would like that. It would definitely improve my quality of life.

the pinefox, Wednesday, 11 April 2012 15:03 (thirteen years ago)

Man, such a pity to be missing all this. Also I am all 'hey wait a minute' at this Pam B*rry revelation above. This is because I can't keep things straight in my brain half the time.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 11 April 2012 15:09 (thirteen years ago)

I feel confident that Mr Raggett would have enjoyed Lorelei's DC set. Second song: an LP-faithful version of Pale Saints' 'sight of you'.

the pinefox, Wednesday, 11 April 2012 15:14 (thirteen years ago)

Hahah very nice. Yes, that would have been grand to see!

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 11 April 2012 15:15 (thirteen years ago)

The Pines should be on at about 8:30 at Bell House tonight. Followed immediately by The Softies.

the pinefox, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:26 (thirteen years ago)

Either I'm unaccustomed to going out on weeknights or that went really late. Great to see everyone!

Virginia Plain, Friday, 13 April 2012 13:15 (thirteen years ago)

i'm sorry i couldn't make it last night to the show, i was still recovering from pulp revelry on top of being sick already! but if you are still in town and at a loss for things to do tonight you should come to my party :) bring pam!!! haha

bene_gesserit, Friday, 13 April 2012 14:08 (thirteen years ago)

The Pines were so lovely, lovely. pf, you are a shockingly good guitar player!

how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Friday, 13 April 2012 14:15 (thirteen years ago)

I mean obviously this is not a surprise to you or probably anyone else, but I didn't realize!

how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Friday, 13 April 2012 14:15 (thirteen years ago)

that's nothing - you should hear him play piano

conrad, Friday, 13 April 2012 14:29 (thirteen years ago)

okay it's not nothing

conrad, Friday, 13 April 2012 14:30 (thirteen years ago)

!!! :D

That is so nice of you to say, Laurel.

(If you have ever heard any of my records, I did most of the guitar playing on those, except the parts I outsourced to Vietnamese teenagers for cheap labour, so they pretty much show what kind of a guitar player I am.)

Mary, I think that did go on late. Loved your private eye's trenchcoat.

Would love to see you, Bene, but I am at a gig in Gowanus from about 9:30. Hoping to meet Mary and Robyn before that. In fact Robyn and I are planning to go to Central Park!

the pinefox, Friday, 13 April 2012 14:33 (thirteen years ago)

my party is in gowanus/carroll gardens in case you want to stop by after! there will be deviled eggs!

bene_gesserit, Friday, 13 April 2012 14:42 (thirteen years ago)

where's the gig in Gowanus, pfox?

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Friday, 13 April 2012 14:53 (thirteen years ago)

Rock Shop

the pinefox, Friday, 13 April 2012 15:04 (thirteen years ago)

I've listened to your tracks before, pf, but in retrospect I would have assumed it was more than one person playing, or more than one track combined, or something. In person, I was actually paying attention.

how did I get here? why am I in the whiskey aisle? this is all so (Laurel), Friday, 13 April 2012 15:36 (thirteen years ago)

Last night was really really fun - it felt like a reunion of sorts but way better than like a high school reunion or whatevs. So good to meet people I hadn't met before after all these years, and see people again, and feel transported back to my indie-twee years via musics. aw :)

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 13 April 2012 17:30 (thirteen years ago)

oh hey the therese track is the old Bodines song. i used to have the single.

biggie smallclothes (brownie), Friday, 13 April 2012 17:36 (thirteen years ago)

pf and I walked around central park in the sunshine and took pictures of each other taking pictures and sang the songs of stephin merritt among others. he has an astounding memory for lyrics. I mostly just remember feelings and notes.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Saturday, 14 April 2012 01:40 (thirteen years ago)

The afternoon felt quite nice, funny, relaxing, in the key of A I would say.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Saturday, 14 April 2012 01:41 (thirteen years ago)

a sunny day in Brooklyn

the pinefox, Saturday, 14 April 2012 16:39 (thirteen years ago)

Have you run into any of the Jonathans yet?

i just believe in memes (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 14 April 2012 19:00 (thirteen years ago)

Youn, did you make it to the show Thursday? I didn't see you.

Got to hear a lot of Pinefox's "American" accent last night. Do we really sound so dumb?

Virginia Plain, Saturday, 14 April 2012 19:50 (thirteen years ago)

Tape yourself and listen. I did that recently and didn't like what I heard. Also I was asking somebody about their German accent the other day and they put on a comedy American accent and asked if that was preferable.

i just believe in memes (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 14 April 2012 20:37 (thirteen years ago)

I don't think we've met before and I don't post my photos. How would you recognize me?

No, I had been sick the day before and could not bear the thought of returning home after midnight. (The thought, the reality could have been more than bearable.)

If Anita O'Day and The Rest and the song about the gymnast were played then everything was in its place and all was right with the world, at that moment.

youn, Saturday, 14 April 2012 20:58 (thirteen years ago)

You did not outsource for their talent? Maybe they are actually talented. Maybe they possess the talents of the grand minstrel singers and troubadours and saints and could speak in tongues and play with a bow and pluck with their fingers and whisper in your ear.

youn, Saturday, 14 April 2012 21:06 (thirteen years ago)

Ha, I don't like listening to myself but I thought it was due to my voice, not my accent.

Youn, we have indeed met in Washington, d.c. Perhaps at that time I was posting under my given name (Mary).

Virginia Plain, Saturday, 14 April 2012 23:24 (thirteen years ago)

Haven't been reading thread carefully, is there an event for tonight?

i just believe in memes (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 15 April 2012 00:00 (thirteen years ago)

No event for tonight as such, but PF graciously hung out with a bunch of my colleagues. James Redd, when do I get to meet you? I'm at Momi most movie nights.

Virginia Plain, Sunday, 15 April 2012 08:15 (thirteen years ago)

and sang the songs of stephin merritt among others. he has an astounding memory for lyrics.

OK, obv I should have made extra effort to meet the pinefox again

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 15 April 2012 09:20 (thirteen years ago)

Doc, that would have been good. In this Central Park instance a particular emphasis was placed on 'Washington, D.C.'. I also heard the new LP for the first time on Friday in Spoonbill books in Williamsburg. Mary was telling me last night about your enduring movie enthusiasm and Carmen Miranda plans.

James R, haven't had those encounters this time but did find a wall graffitied with Green Lantern, and was in a NON-hipster cafe on 4th Ave Brooklyn where 'Life During Wartime' came on.

Mary thinks I think all Americans are jocks. I was really just talking about the way certain people might talk about BLACK TAMBOURINE, MAN, and how SMALL FACTORY JUST LIKE BROUGHT IT. I did one illustrative line of Don Draper yesterday and was touched that two Queens residents actually thought it sounded like him. But mostly I have been relying Michael Caine, though one of Mary's librarian colleagues high above Long Island City was keen to be reminded of David Brent.

the pinefox, Sunday, 15 April 2012 15:48 (thirteen years ago)

Another sunny day in Brooklyn. I am impressed to have had breakfast and everything having not gone to bed till 5am.

the pinefox, Sunday, 15 April 2012 15:49 (thirteen years ago)

I was really just talking about the way certain people might talk about BLACK TAMBOURINE, MAN, and how SMALL FACTORY JUST LIKE BROUGHT IT.

haaaa! very sorry to have missed you, pinefox!
