I've made a decision. I've finally decided that I've had my current hairstyle (long, messy) for too long (ten years). I've booked an appointment at the village hairdresser's tomorrow to Get It Seen To.

The only problem is, I've got *no idea* what to do. So, this is the thread where you suggest what I should get done to it.

(as I said, for years it's been long and messy, and has so many split ends that it probably needs cutting way back just to tidy it up. It's light brown to blonde - the actual colour depends entirely on how much sun I've been getting lately.)

My only advice would be to stop at length. Don't change your length and color. That much change in one day might be too unsettling.

To be honest, I wasn't planning to chnage the colour anyway. For one thing, I'm only booked in for a cut - they might get a bit annoyed if I go in and say "can you colour it too?"

Whatever you get done, pay attention when they're blow-drying it and ask for advice about products. I dunno whether layers would go a bit crazy with your hair, but something face-framing is generally flattering.

i'm a boy, so it's easier, but i always like to go in and say, "have at it. do what you do". if you go to a place that has a rather hipster clientel and staff, you shouldn't be dissapointed. i mean, i've only seen you with your clothes off, but from the friends you keep and from the way i see you in my head, a "hip" haircut wouldn't look bad on you.

real advice: i too have long messy hair. i went to a place that specialized in dry cuts -- basically wavy hair needs to be treated differently from straight hair, and dry cuts can help control frizz and poofiness. i'm due for another haircut, but i'm still very happy with the one i got.

"dry cuts"? I'm assuming this is literal, they cut your hair when it's dry kind of thing, although I've never heard of it.

My hair has just enough wave in it to look bushy whenever I try to have a cute trendy hairstyle. It either has to be cut close above my neck, or have grown out beyond shoulder-length enough that it's tamed by its own weight. I'm trying to grow it out now and it's really annoying.
