So, is this an Anti-Valentines type FAP where we can go and not feel utterly awful for being single (again)? I think that's actually an excellent idea. Though I'm not sure about Can-influenced bands. Sometimes they can be utterly wonderful but most of the time they're either pretentious gubbins or intolerable hippie dribble. (Not insinuating that your friend's band sounds like either.)

you should do a keys in the bowl arrangement so everyone gets to go home with someone. the good news, ladies, is that i can't make it.

stelfox, Friday, 11 February 2005 17:06 (twenty years ago)

(actually i might swing by, depending on how much work i have on)

stelfox, Friday, 11 February 2005 17:16 (twenty years ago)

TS: swing by vs swingin

(DO YOU SEE)

mark s (mark s), Friday, 11 February 2005 17:20 (twenty years ago)

if i do make it, there will be no impropriety on my part. watched something on telly about swingers last night. doesn't look like much fun.

stelfox, Friday, 11 February 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

oh good old Farringdon. i'm afraid i have only ever played the part of the lager-swilling pseudo-journo at the betsey trotwood and ventured downstairs just to find the toilets, where i was ambushed by a live ROCK band!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 11 February 2005 23:59 (twenty years ago)

Considering the Betsey is pretty much directly opposite my office, I might come to this!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Saturday, 12 February 2005 00:07 (twenty years ago)

Please no swinging. I've given up boys for Lent. (No remarks about lezzing up instead, please.) But I do think I'd rather do this than stay home and face another night of television.

Kate Kept Me Alive! (kate), Saturday, 12 February 2005 11:36 (twenty years ago)

is this the place where they would have those track & field nights?

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 12 February 2005 16:57 (twenty years ago)

ken c (ken c), Saturday, 12 February 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

ken c (ken c), Saturday, 12 February 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

Are the bands upstairs or downstairs these days?

It's getting harder and harder to actually leave the house these days but I think I should try.

kate, glyn told me the playing and listening area = v.tiny if this helps pin down where it currently is

mark s (mark s), Monday, 14 February 2005 12:58 (twenty years ago)

haha, both upstairs and downstairs are tiny, so this doesn't help greatly ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 14 February 2005 13:29 (twenty years ago)

If beer plus Nandos finishes early, yes.

If it doesn't, no.

HAPPY VALENTINES!

Sarah C, Monday, 14 February 2005 14:09 (twenty years ago)

Seeing LCD Soundsystem/Go! Team/Juliette Lewis (?!) at the Astoria tonight so sadly can't come to this bah :-(

However, moving up Walthamstow/Upper Clapton way is now a distinct possibility...

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 14 February 2005 14:40 (twenty years ago)

Well, I missed the FAP but made the indie-rock. I had forgotten exactly *how* tiny the Betsey is, and not made any better by LARGE MAN IN SMELLY LEATHER JACKET who kept moving in front of me no matter where I stood.

The first two "bands" (bitter bloke plus guitar, zany bloke plus keyboard that went ZANG!) were so horribly bad that we were at least able to laugh at their badness (Mark: "He's invented a whole new genre to be terrible in!"). But then Mark's mate's band was very very good indeed, more 60s spacesurf than Krautlounge, I'd have said, all their songs sounded like groovier versions of Telstar. Which was very enjoyable indeed. Hurrah!

Kate Kept Me Alive! (kate), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 11:03 (twenty years ago)

freeform honkytonk surf instrumentals!! except for one the foray into gong-if-they-were-bavarian-nazis

they are called TUNER and this wz their first ever show - hurrah!

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 11:11 (twenty years ago)

Oh, and except for the bit with the banjo. That was very scary indeed.
