Help A Country Yokel Out (The Windmill, Brixton)

I'm going to The Windmill to see Saturday Looks Good To Me on Feb 23rd. I'm coming up from Oxford, on the cheap and cheerful Megabus. I was wondering if anybody has been there before - is it a standard "curfew at 11pm, but bands might play about fifteen minutes or so over" venue? And is the N2 bus from Brixton to Victoria safe at night (sorry - I haven't been in London at night for a long time)?

Ha ha, I love the Windmill, it's over the hill from my house. It shuts when it feels like shutting, which is a beautiful thing.

I ride nightbusses through Brixton all the time. I can't say I've never had trouble (bus fites are an every other month occurance, especially at the weekend) but it's easily avoided if you don't try to provoke trouble.

Thanks, Kate!

I must say that the most common cause of busfites, it seems, is people not having the right kind of bus pass or whatever and picking fights with the drivers over that, rather than actual violence. If you have a travelcard, this won't be a problem.

Enjoy the Windmill, though, it really is a lovely place.

the windmill is possibly the best thing in london. oh, don't forget to check out the actual real-life windmill in the park opposite the pub.

The Windmill isn't even the best thing in South London! (That would be the Crystal Palace.) But it is a thing of wonder. And yes, check out the real Windmill, but I'd make sure to do it during daylight hours.

That would be the Crystal Palace

you seem to have left you brane in 1926!

But anyway, the Windmill is a great place. It is more like an American bar than any other British pub I've to, and certainly *much* more like an American bar than any places here which *intend* to be like one!

It's a shame I was there in the dark so didn't see the actual windmill which gives it its name.

I saw Kate's band play there! And so did Tracer Hand!

Some day the South London ILX0rs will rise up and actually do something like visit the real windmill and then go to the Windmill...

you won't need to get the nightbus unless it finishes after 12 - the last tube from brixton to victoria leaves around midnight, and nightbuses don't start running until then at the earliest. central brixton at night is fine, it doesn't start feeling dodgy until the wee hours. (a friend was once convinced he was going to get mugged/stabbed in brixton by some guy that was looking at him funny as they approached each other. when they got near enough for him to've done whatever harm he intended, the guy flashed at him...)

thanks everyone! I did manage to get myself lost, but I got back safely. Concert was good too, although I forgot the soul-crushing part of going to a gig by yourself, but thankfully it tends to ebb a bit when bands are playing!
