1) Those Reef adverts with the woman yelling "GIVE ME JOOSE!", then saying "This is where we add the vodka", and those people rubbing each other with fruit. Partly because Reef is horrible, yes.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 12 February 2005 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

joose = juice?

Aaron A., Saturday, 12 February 2005 00:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes. Because Reef apparently tastes of fruit. According to the people that make the Reef adverts.

2) The Norton Finance ads with that bloke fannying about on the tightrope.

3) The Norton Finance ads with the hurdles AS METAPHORS FOR DEBT. DO YOU SEE?

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 12 February 2005 01:12 (twenty-one years ago)

that Kingsmill ad with the average northern suburban family and the butler

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Saturday, 12 February 2005 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Jeff Goldblum, Holsten Pils

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Saturday, 12 February 2005 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

"WE WANNA BE TOGETHER"

Richard C (avoid80), Saturday, 12 February 2005 01:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure if it counts, but it probably does -

7) Kelsey Grammer's Channel 4 idents. Perhaps the very definition of 'contractual obligation'.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 12 February 2005 01:21 (twenty-one years ago)

on reflection these may not have been quite as godawful as I remember, but as small child I was horrified by/petrified of:

8) Robinson's Jam Golly eating an inferior jam and going grey and everything going wibbly and him falling over a bit ("Golly isn't very well" or something along these lines)

9) Suzi Trio with bongos in her mouth to shut her up.

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Saturday, 12 February 2005 01:32 (twenty-one years ago)

...although neither of these really qualifies as 'forgotten', they both had a fairly lasting impact

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Saturday, 12 February 2005 01:33 (twenty-one years ago)

10) The original DFS ads.

11) The DFS ads with Michael Aspel.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 12 February 2005 01:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the GIVE ME JOOOOOCE ads. They were like some endless Madonna video where everyone seemed to be having a weirder and more kinky time than you. They made me feel quite safe in the knowledge that I would never drink Reef and felt no desire to do so.

Kate Kept Me Alive! (kate), Saturday, 12 February 2005 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

"a little nob of parmesan doll? OH NO. I HAVE GOT IT IN ME HELMET."

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Saturday, 12 February 2005 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

"a little nob of parmesan doll? OH NO. I HAVE GOT IT IN ME HELMET."

Read out of context, this sounds really, REALLY filthy.

Tantrum (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 12 February 2005 16:24 (twenty-one years ago)

well..yes...

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Sunday, 13 February 2005 00:18 (twenty-one years ago)

12) "What sits on yer.. What sits on yer.. What sits on yer.. "

The Wotzits ad. Returned to my brain last week for no apparent. I actually quite liked it. Who knows.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 14 February 2005 08:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Best ever advert

There's a car, there's a jet the jet swoops in low over the car and inverts, pilot makes eyes at the drivers girlfriend but the car is heading for a low bridge forcing the pilot to climb advert ends.

also

I'm not your dad, alright.

THAT WALRUS-ESQUE DOOD WHO SELLS YOU PERSONAL INJURY SHIT

why must we cut onions? (Lynskey), Monday, 14 February 2005 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Daytime TV ambulance chaser/debt people ads are incredible.

The courtroom one with the guy on the lie detector and they keep coming up with new versions where he tries to sound even more sincere when he says "yes, absolutley".

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Monday, 14 February 2005 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

1) Also, note: "This is where we add the vodka" i.e. the previous mentalism was not to do with the alcohol content, as it hadn't happened at that point...

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 14 February 2005 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I love my job

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Monday, 14 February 2005 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

fourteen years pass...

About two months ago I saw this needlessly menacing ad for British Pork and I can honestly say I've thought about it every single day since. H/t @ScarredForLife2

"She's got what it takes". pic.twitter.com/KNFP9dXr3O

"plenty of taste - british longpig"

Afaict you can’t find this on YouTube in unedited form anymore (mostly by climate change deniers)
Grotesque ad though.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Pressure_(film)

written by Richard Curtis and Franny Armstrong, and directed by Dougal Wilson. Intended for cinema and television advertisements, No Pressure is composed of scenes in which a variety of men, women and children in every-day situations are graphically blown to pieces for failing to be sufficiently enthusiastic about the 10:10 campaign to reduce CO2 emissions.

gyac, Friday, 25 October 2019 21:03 (six years ago)

that's hilarious

"Charities that had backed the film stated they were "absolutely appalled" upon seeing it,"

"accompanied by music from Radiohead."

kinder, Friday, 25 October 2019 21:28 (six years ago)

"the resulting controversy became widely referred to as "splattergate" by bloggers"

I’m wrong, this seems to be the original

Viz used to do a funny parody of those eye-catching Benetton ads with a crude cut and paste of Pope JP II shagging queen elizabeth II. No shock that the waster director made his rep doing terrible pop videos/apple/coca cola/john lewis ads etc

calzino, Friday, 25 October 2019 21:53 (six years ago)

that video is worse than I even imagined, well done everyone
