Seriously, I've never given this day much thought. Is it just that it's not a big deal in Aussie, or am I missing out on something?
― toraneko (toraneko), Sunday, 13 February 2005 14:17 (twenty years ago)
It's got good and bad elements. There is pressure towards romantic gestures, which I don't think is helpful, and it can upset people who are single, but I regard it as an excuse to show my love for that special person in a slightly more extravagant way than usually feels okay. But I tell her I love her pretty much every day anyway, so it doesn't make a big difference.

I'm one of those people who thinks that if you love someone, you should try and do sweet romantic things for them all year round. There shouldn't be one day a year when it's compulsary.

Valentine's day is a wank. Buying flowers and springing romantic stuff spontaneously/for no arbitrary reason is a million times more valuable.

Yeah I'm just using today as an excuse to have a fancy dinner which we often have anyhow. There'll be a roast, some home made bread, a dessert, some nice candles and music. One of the benefits of not working at present I guess.

I just heard the most ridiculously poignant love story from this lady i work with who is about 60 or so? i'm not sure of her exact age, but she's < 50. anyway, she came in to wish us a happy dia de la amistad and then casually mentioned that this is her 1 year anniversary with her boyfriend. i joked and said "now we know why you're in such a good mood lately!" (her demeanor has changed dramatically/become noticeably more buoyant tbrr) and she laughed and proceeded to tell us all about how she got together with this guy and it was just so sweet that we all hugged at the end.
happy valentine's day/dia de la amistad!
