One one hand rally racing is wasteful, dangerous, etc etc etc.

On the other hand I think it's really fucking cool. Maybe it's because I grew up with it (there was a long running event based in the town I'm from) but there's something about the competition, the cars, and getting out in the middle of nowhere to spectate that's just held my attention over the years.

Anyone else interested? I'm looking at you, Brits... Most Americans couldn't give a shit.

I said most. The following I've found is small but fanatical. They have their own intarweb gathering spot is here. It amazes me what huge nerds people are about it all sometimes.
