i remember seeing a documentary about them something like 4-5 years ago, although nothing since. maybe there's some sort of rods comeback in motion?

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 00:40 (twenty years ago)

Isn't this a Wilhelm Reich thing?

RS £aRue (rockist_scientist), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 01:06 (twenty years ago)

An orgonomic functionalism thing, I guess I should say?

RS £aRue (rockist_scientist), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 01:07 (twenty years ago)

Is this something akin to chemtrails and foil hats, then?

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 01:09 (twenty years ago)

haha that wz dr vick's explanation RS! she said it was a "manifestation of the joie de vivre of nearby humans"

(this is because one series of images was taken while some fool was skydiving into a canyon. and another at a barbecue)

they never went away! it's had a following for a while.

its all nonsense though. even people who literally believe that aliens control the government laugh at it.

It reminds me of people who claim they see "orbs" with digital cameras. Hello, those are DUST MOTES.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 05:38 (twenty years ago)

I can't get any of the photos to load (oooohhh!! spoooooky!) but I was going to say "Yeah, dust motes or what, like?"

I once read this book (or was it a film I saw? I can no longer remember where I get my information from any more) which was talking about the history of the occult in relation to the progress of technology - how every new emergent technology's flaws from photography (spirit photography) to sound recording (EVP) to digital photography brings along its whole new host of SPOOKOLOGICAL RESEARCH!!!

Kate Kept Me Alive! (kate), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 11:02 (twenty years ago)

haha one of ppl in this doc get v.excited when he said - having discovered abt the bug phenom - he went on the net and found further proof they existed = there WAS A WEBSITE ABOUT THEM!! who needs science when you get back-up from likeminded web mentalists!!?!

bugseeker 1: "they fly too fast for the eye to see, hence are visible only on video"
bugseeker 2: "but they can also be found depicted in cave paintings"

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 11:08 (twenty years ago)

I wish I had Sky. Channel Five doesn't show nearly enough of these docu's any more now they're trying to be all serious and having Boris Johnson talk about Turks. :-(

It's like people who go to the Fortean Times messageboard to get secondary supporting evidence for their crop circle theories and all.

Kate Kept Me Alive! (kate), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 11:15 (twenty years ago)

nobody noticed these rods until they started installing rod stewards everywhere in surveillance.
