Your watch: what does it look like?

Digital watches can be cool, can't they? I want them to be. I want sporty watches to be cool, to. Combine digital and sporty into a cool watch with awesome technical functions like telememo storage and countdown timer, moonphase, compass and shit and I would be happy.

But all the watches I see that do this don't look cool. They look cheap and shitty.

But there are too many watches out there for me to judge.

Can't a big-watch loving classical kind of guy get a cool watch with all that tech shit in a digital package and be proud?

EOS is a good brand, isn't it? In other words, I mean, "it's not cheap," right? Looks like a weirdo kind of thing. Don't you miss not having telemomo and moonphase functions? I know I do! ;(

EOS is a good brand, isn't it? In other words, I mean, "it's not cheap," right?

It was about A$30 which is about US$20. I'd call that pretty fucking cheap :)

For cool digital watches, though, you probably want to go here. Inventory changes frequently, so if they don't have anything classical right now, check back in a month.

$275 is pretty expensive! Ha, ha, joke blah etc.

I want to create a watch that has all the holidays remindered for idiots, but to make it REALLY cool, I want stuff like Walpurgisnacht and Samhain in the memory! It'll be black with a big red pentagram face, of course. http://angelic.tk/images3/atkbaphomet.gif

I imagine I might actually break even. I might make a profit if I sell it through Danzig's website.

Ooh, that's a nice one. I forgot about Swatch! They had that worldtime shit so they may have the technological crap I'm looking for. I also like how they did the 'skeleton' thing without making it look all old and shit the way most of those watches look.

I have an analogue watch from Next haha. And I wear it on my right wrist because I get skin irritation if I wear it on my left, don't know why.

I had a very annoying tutor last year who was always saying how much he hated mobile phones but how he HAD to have one so he could tell the time. I don't know if he knew about wrist watches.

tuomas, i used to think that too but then i got tired of bending my head sideways to sneak peeks at other peoples watches. i always need to know what time it is. my husband doesnt wear a watch but has a gazillion clocks around the house all set to the wrong time. i, on the other hand, only need a watch but it has to be set correctly to the second.

that said, this is my watch

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Sunday, 7 August 2005 20:29 (twenty years ago)

i have a beautiful omega which used to belong to my uncle smeck (qv the "uncles" thread). i would love to wear it, but the little holes above and below the face, into which the bezel fits, have become so worn away with use that it falls off the strap all the time. having nearly lost it twice, i reluctantly decided not to wear it any more.

i've spoken to several jewellers, one of whom even sent it back to omega, but it's beyond repair, sadly.

i should post a picture but it's getting late and i can't be arsed taking one/uploading it :)

anyway: the upshot is that if i can't wear the watch i really want, i'm not going to wear one at all. my mobile phone tells me the time very well.

Naus, is that goldplated? Or gold?

nathalie sans denouement (stevie nixed), Monday, 8 August 2005 08:45 (twenty years ago)

Goldplated. I saw it once at a Rite-Aid for $30 and decided then that it would be my next watch. The whole idea of taking a cheapy digital watch and dressing it up with a tacky gold band seems so wrong, which makes it a winner in my book.

hm. am looking for a kinetic watch that's just, you know, a watch. not a piece of jewellery or something for measuring the amount of dreams in clouds, just a watch. it's got to be waterproof (not water-resistant) or i will destroy it within about ten minutes. i can cope if it has, you know, the date or the moon or something on it, that won't send me batshit insane (we went looking for one on friday and they were all these flashy fucking monstrosities, HUGE and all gold and silver and the most fugly things i've seen in my life, i swear, anyway i went on a bit of a sweary rant without noticing the assistant hovering helpfully just inside the door. oops. i did go and apologise profusely immediately). just want something with the time and a simple non-metal non-leather strap... anyone seen one?

these techtrail axis watches look quite cool, they've got all the usual functions plus a compass and an altimeter for moutaineers and although they may not measure the amount of dreams in clouds they do predict the weather six hours in advance with a built-in barometer and sensors and stuff. plus they're pretty small, not like a bulky block on your wrist. they're not kinetic though.
