Well kind of. It is our last night at The Chapel, and our last night as ClubFT. Tom tells you all about it over there, but hey! lets go out with a bang, yeah?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 17 February 2005 15:13 (twenty years ago)

Although I am very pro-West End and all, this is making me feel surprisingly EMOTIONAL! I'll be there ASAP for happy hour cocktails, and STUFF the chips beforehand!

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Thursday, 17 February 2005 15:18 (twenty years ago)

You know stuffing the chips is a bad idea. I will be there possibly after filthy McDonalds stomach lining.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 17 February 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

Given that this is the last one I really ought to make an appearance.

However: I don't know whether Club FT ever plays anything slow and/or midtempo, but it would be nice if during the evening something by the Junior Boys could be played in memory of Nick, who was at the last Club FT and bloody well should have been at this one too... :-(

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 17 February 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

i might not be able able to make this one due to very early flight next morning but could probably manage one last cheapish Highland Fling before it all gets going

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Thursday, 17 February 2005 15:23 (twenty years ago)

Rapid McFilth might be a plan.

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Thursday, 17 February 2005 15:24 (twenty years ago)

Oh no I didn't know it was the Last Chapel! I won't be able to make it, I'm going to see Kano at Infinity instead. I wish I could be in two places at once!

(Mr Carsmilesteve when can I DJ?)

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 17 February 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

i'll be there, *and* i'm going on holiday the next day so won't be having to lecture at 9am, woo! although come to think of it this whole holiday business probably means i'll still have to be up early.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 17 February 2005 15:35 (twenty years ago)

It seems that a suspiciously large amount of ILXists are going on holiday the next day. What are the odds?

alix (alix), Thursday, 17 February 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

Quite large given what the next day is

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 17 February 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

We're going on holiday the next day as well. Mmmm Prague, beer that isn't £3/pint.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 17 February 2005 17:19 (twenty years ago)

I am not going on holiday the day after FT and so I shall be there!

How can teh Boyler confuse February with March???

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 17 February 2005 18:01 (twenty years ago)

They were the other way round until Margaret Thatcher ruined everything.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 17 February 2005 18:02 (twenty years ago)

im still waiting for the bartender to bring me my ketchup

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 17 February 2005 18:06 (twenty years ago)

he brought them last month but you'd left by then

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 17 February 2005 18:08 (twenty years ago)

the bartender prolly doesn't know when Easter is either. Maybe Dave and barkeep should celebrate it a month early together.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 17 February 2005 18:12 (twenty years ago)

i made the same mistake as Dave recently, as i was planning to go away for Easter weekend too

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Thursday, 17 February 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

last year I ended up in Hackney because I accidentally planned for an Eastender weekend.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 17 February 2005 18:20 (twenty years ago)

funny that. I ended up in Glasgow coz I accidentally planned for an Easterhouse weekend.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 17 February 2005 18:28 (twenty years ago)

I ended up in Goa after planning a microhouse weekend.

Deerninja B4rim4, Plus-Tech Whizz Kid (Barima), Thursday, 17 February 2005 18:32 (twenty years ago)

I will be there, of course! And I look forward to the move.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 17 February 2005 18:48 (twenty years ago)

i look forward to the moves people will make when i play my special chapel farewell set

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 17 February 2005 19:01 (twenty years ago)

Like moving away from the speakers, or indeed the whole place?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 17 February 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

I am pining for Easter and the start of the bank holiday season.

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 17 February 2005 20:55 (twenty years ago)

(Dunno about the JBeez Marcello but I'll definitely be bringing a couple of tracks I heard first on GABBA.cc)

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 17 February 2005 21:59 (twenty years ago)

next FT = porto the next day at stupid o'clock and one after = no such thing as bank holidays for me nowadays = reduced cloob FT fun :o(

Porkpie (porkpie), Thursday, 17 February 2005 22:21 (twenty years ago)

I planned to go to Club Freakytrigger and accidentally ended up on the beach in a pair of khakis! - http://www.freakytrigger.com

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 17 February 2005 22:36 (twenty years ago)

Like moving away from the speakers, or indeed the whole place?

well i certainly hope the PA won't be so bad that people will feel the need to actually move TOWARDS the speakers!!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 17 February 2005 22:47 (twenty years ago)

holy shit this is going to be so good.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 12:42 (twenty years ago)

i have no idea what music you like

Sven Bastard (blueski), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 12:58 (twenty years ago)

Crumbs, this Thursday? I'm going to a pub quiz tonite with a whole room full of merchant bankers and city types tonight, I may not survive. It's for charidee.

Dadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 13:01 (twenty years ago)

i like music that make people move away from speakers! because there'll be so much BEAT! omg.

(i should really find out what time i'm going to be on, too)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 13:04 (twenty years ago)

I've seen Ken's CD collection. Steve, you will know PH34R before the night is through.

Deerninja B4rim4, Plus-Tech Whizz Kid (Barima), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 13:16 (twenty years ago)

You never know, Ken might have a troop of puppeteers advisors!

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 13:41 (twenty years ago)

But yeah, you guys can look forward to Sweet Child of Mine 10 times in a row, on the real.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 13:41 (twenty years ago)

Which would equal BEST DJ SLOT EVER!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 13:47 (twenty years ago)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 14:16 (twenty years ago)

It's going to be an all-Terrorvision set isn't it.

lock robster (robster), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 14:19 (twenty years ago)

I predict Madness.

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 14:22 (twenty years ago)

these sound like requests ;)))

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 14:49 (twenty years ago)

haha i still have no idea what time i'm playing yet even!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

Radio Two just played Albatross by the Mac. Why not play that, but backwards and speeded up? What would that sound like? I now want to know. Can anyone help?

alix (alix), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 15:18 (twenty years ago)

around Eight i've been told!! I wonder if Anthony Miccio will be bummed around 3:20pm...

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 24 February 2005 16:31 (twenty years ago)

Fat hands, you know you're the one.

is that the lyrics to "Fat hands in the sun"?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 24 February 2005 16:31 (twenty years ago)

Ken - the word on "the street" is 8.30 for you.

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Thursday, 24 February 2005 16:40 (twenty years ago)

cooool! that moves the plan back 30 minutes!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 24 February 2005 16:42 (twenty years ago)

p.s. i never knew club FT is run by mike skinner

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 24 February 2005 16:45 (twenty years ago)

So Charlie, the only FT you're going to is going to be the one I'm not at? Well, fine, be that way. I didn't wanna smell you anyway.

Dammit, come down early doors then, before your cathedrals of wotsit! i'll be there around 7pm. it's about time we had another pointless bloody shouting match ;-)

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 24 February 2005 16:50 (twenty years ago)

Charlie - I probably won't be at Club FT until 8ish (ie probably after you've gone), but are you DJing tomorrow night that you know of?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 24 February 2005 16:53 (twenty years ago)

Nono, I only play at Club Seal when Club Hedonistic's on before it - and that's only once a month. The next Hedonistic is Fri 18th March, so that's when I'll next be playing.

that said, last time Olly and Gareth actually *unplugged* the whole mixing desk cos I played a song they didn't like, so who knows, I might not play there again at all!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 24 February 2005 17:10 (twenty years ago)

Blimey, I didn't notice that - god knows where I was at the time. Ah well, maybe I'll see you later if I get to ver Chapel in time.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 24 February 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

I played a song they didn't like

I liked it! It was Ask, wasn't it? Who doesn't like that??

JimD (JimD), Thursday, 24 February 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

HOW WAS IT?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 25 February 2005 00:18 (twenty years ago)

it was sa-aaaaa-aaad

ken c (ken c), Friday, 25 February 2005 00:27 (twenty years ago)

some new people, some nice

ilkley lido (gareth), Friday, 25 February 2005 00:46 (twenty years ago)

I had f with a capital un.

ken's songs were largely videogame related and I DUG that. I also dug where's me jumper and the only living boy in new cross and then I left before the end.

JimD (JimD), Friday, 25 February 2005 01:25 (twenty years ago)

Bother. Went out, so forgot to do my own miniature tribute (playing 'Happy Birthday' by Altered Images while standing in the middle of my room looking deeply embarrassed). But ne'ermind. I shall be along to the reincarnation one day...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 25 February 2005 03:16 (twenty years ago)

what was the last song?

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 25 February 2005 03:19 (twenty years ago)

Too bad I missed out. I toasted you all this morning with a shot of snake blood here in Hanoi. I'm not kidding.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 25 February 2005 07:40 (twenty years ago)

All the gory details.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 25 February 2005 08:52 (twenty years ago)

That blog makes for terrifying reading in the cold light of day.

The last song was LORD ROCKINGHAM'S XI, just after Never Forget by Take That. There was no Save A Horse and no We Want Fun, which is probably as it should be.

The actual jumper-flinging during Where's Me Jumper was inspired. Less so the idea of giving Pete Baran a microphone while playing Carter songs.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 25 February 2005 10:29 (twenty years ago)

ken's songs were largely videogame related and I DUG that

i'm still crossed that i forgot to burn "zombie nation" on the CD-R :(

ken c (ken c), Friday, 25 February 2005 11:27 (twenty years ago)

I guess the polar bear will have no WIFI fun? Otherwise there really should be a video link up, or at least a FreakyTrigger AIM chatroom.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 25 February 2005 11:33 (twenty years ago)

The idea was for us to end our individual sets with our signiture tunes. Steve did Where Is Jumper Boy and I sung the Only living Boy whilst almost killing myself falling out of the pulpit.

Tell us more about the snake blood (and did you meet Lou?) Rob.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 25 February 2005 11:36 (twenty years ago)

I missed Take That?! Aww man.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Friday, 25 February 2005 13:21 (twenty years ago)

We had Russell "I've Given Up Drinking Again" Chapterhouse and Emma Lush and Sonic Boom all playing songs by, erm, Chapterhouse and Lush and Spacemen 3. It was ACE!!! The Engineers were a wall of (my) bloody sound, fabulous. It was a Dirty Dronerock Boy Buffet.

Can you top that? I don't think so.

Masonic Cathedral (kate), Friday, 25 February 2005 13:26 (twenty years ago)

but did you have Butteryfly by Smile.DK?

I don't THINK SO!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 25 February 2005 14:25 (twenty years ago)

I-ee-I-ee-I am your little butterfly!

Pete's singing made me happy on two occasions. His Chewing Gum "la-la-la" and his ...Hotstepper "Murrrrderer!" were both beautiful. :)

JimD (JimD), Friday, 25 February 2005 14:36 (twenty years ago)

man nobody told me there was a MICROPHONE!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 25 February 2005 14:37 (twenty years ago)

p.s. guess who left his credit card at the chapel again??

(yes, the barman remembered me for leaving my card behind repeatedly)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 28 February 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)

as i was leaving after i got my card the man wished me a good weekend, and i said the same.

I felt momentarily sad by that, as it reminded me that it may well be the last time I'll see this guy again. I looked back at the Chapel Bar, "Have a good life, barman." I whispered quietly, before turning back and headed back to work.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 28 February 2005 14:48 (twenty years ago)

I also lament forgetting to bring my camera, did anyone take photies? I only saw the one that Dave B took of Matt DC

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 11:23 (twenty years ago)

i took a few early on, up soon

Sven Bastard (blueski), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 11:26 (twenty years ago)

Club FT photos are one of the pure joys in my life.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 17:49 (twenty years ago)

Dave B (daveb), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 19:01 (twenty years ago)

I am sad to have missed this. In both meanings.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 19:33 (twenty years ago)

whose hair is that Dave? i'm very impressed

Charles, it could've been beautiful

Sven Bastard (blueski), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

I'm guessing Pete.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 22:42 (twenty years ago)

Dave that pulpit photo is facking marvellous. For five reasons:

1. The angle is cool
2. It is THE ONLY photo taken in the history of the Chapel bar not to look like a bizarre blurry thing
3. Comical obscuring of The Beard
4. The positioning of Tom's thumb up and the positioning of the top ceiling dude make you imagine that he's replicating Tom's pose
5. Despite having attended all eleven Chapel Bar Club FTs I had never noticed there was anything painted on the ceiling at all. Typically unobservant there...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 23:12 (twenty years ago)

Me too - I never there was a painted ceiling untl I took the pic

PS - I woz drunken when I took it. I'd love to claim talent, but must rely on serendipity

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 01:30 (twenty years ago)

Aaaah. I never noticed the ceiling either. And I tend to be quite observant about architectural details.

(Any photos of The Spy DJ-ing? He treated me to his entire set on iPod a few days later, but I'd like photos for the full perve experience.)

Masonic Cathedral (kate), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 10:12 (twenty years ago)

I have a picture of the Spy. But to post it would destroy his secret identity, and I'd have to kill everyone who saw it. Soz like.

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 10:53 (twenty years ago)

Yes, I claim ownership of the hair. But whose nose???

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 10:55 (twenty years ago)

i wasn't there for DJ Spy but i did take these:

http://www.base58.com/ilx/djbarang.jpg

Sven Bastard (blueski), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 10:59 (twenty years ago)

delightful.

i think that's matt's nose isn't it?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 11:00 (twenty years ago)

That picture of t'Barnet Ape is marvy.

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 11:11 (twenty years ago)

I think it is Starry's nose.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 11:12 (twenty years ago)

Who knows whose nose? (Me obv.)

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 11:14 (twenty years ago)

That isn't my noise. I also think it's Starry's.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 11:18 (twenty years ago)

I think it might be my nose too.

I DO NOT REMEMBER THIS

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 11:19 (twenty years ago)

To be fair, the picture is more 'fun with 11x zoom' than someone actual snorting dandruff - I was trying to take a close up of the person whose hair is there, and it caught the nose of the other person in the foreground.

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 11:42 (twenty years ago)
