Would it be cruel to say that anyone who actually falls for these might be a little less deserving of sympathy when they get cleaned out?

Went up on the hill about twelve o'clock.
Reached right back and got me a pole.
Went to the hardware and got me a hook.
Attached that line right on that hook.
Says you've been a-phishin' all the time.
I'm a-goin' phishin' too.

I bet your life, your lovin'wife.
Can catch more phish than you.
Any phish bite if you've got good bait.
Here's a little somethin' I would like to relate.
Any phish bite, you've got good bait.
I'm a-goin' a-phishin', yes, I'm a-goin' a-phishin',
I'm a-goin' a-phishin' too.

Looked down the river about one o'clock.
Spied this catphish swimmin' around.
I've got so hungry, didn't know what to do.
I'm gonna get me a catphish too.

Yes, you've been phishin' all the time.
I'm a-goin' a-phishin' too.
I bet your life your lovin' wife.
Catch more phish than you.
Any phish bite, got good bait.
Here's a little somethin' I would like to relate.
Any phish bite, you've got good bait.
I'm a-goin' a-phishin', yes, I'm goin' a-phishin',
I'm a-goin' a-phishin' too.

Put on your skillet, don't never mind your lead.
Mama gonna cook 'em with the short'nin' bread.
Says you been phishin' all the time.
I'm a-goin a-phishin' too.
I bet your life, your lovin' wife.
Can catch more phish than you.
Any phish bite, if you've got good bait.
Here's a little somethin' I would like to relate.
Any phish bite, you've got good bait.
I'm a-goin' a-phishin', yes, I'm goin' a-phishin',
I'm a-goin' a-phishin' too.

fifteen years pass...

so I have a Shipt membership that I used to pay for with a credit card, one that got cancelled and replaced with a new one. I forgot this, so the payment didn't go through the other day.

Shipt apparently *outsources* the collection of outstanding payments to another company, and literally the notification email shows as From "Emails", has a strange From email address that isn't Shipts, with a different reply-to, which is a possible indicator of Phishing. Even more alarming, to update your payment information, you click a link and are taken to a third party company's website, where you're asked to enter your credit card information. I told them I refused, as I don't know this company or have any relationship with them where I could trust them to handle my information properly, and told them to deduct it themselves. thinking of cancelling now cos of this episode.

How do I know it's not Phishing? I did some internet research and found out they are a legit company, the one that sent the email, and that other companies use them for the same thing. Mostly small companies.

is this a thing? do companies really outsource something this menial that they can do themselves?

it’s totally a thing for bullshit companies to do stuff like this now, and yes, it all reeks of phishing.

if I were you I’d find somebody else to do whatever it is.
