Two thousands? Aughts? Aughties? Or by a reference to how failed your life has been for the past five years (my preference)

Guys, it's going to be real rough to have any sort of pedantic looks-back without a consensus on an easy, roll-off-the-tongue name for this decade.

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Saturday, 19 February 2005 23:00 (twenty years ago)

Club Freaky Trigger, playing music from this decade only, referred to it as the Noughties. That seems the most popular, and I dare say we'll be stuck with it.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 19 February 2005 23:00 (twenty years ago)

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 20 February 2005 00:18 (twenty years ago)

I mean: I refer to it as "this decade."

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 20 February 2005 00:19 (twenty years ago)

the whole point of the first two decades of a century are you don't get to refer to them by any catch-all term, you just wander around in a fog for twenty years and then finally you get the twenties and you get so excited about it that that particular decade rules the school just because it's got a name when the two before it didn't

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Sunday, 20 February 2005 00:26 (twenty years ago)

Yesterday's history, tomorrow's a mystery, today's a gift so I call it 'the present'.
