how do I know when my dope butter is done?

So it's been awhile since I've cooked with weed and I've been cooking this butter now for about an hour and a half. The weed is fairly high quality (ie, not shake) and I would think this would be long enough to cook all the THC out of it and I can start making brownies... any opinions?

The idea is to cook the THC out of it?

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 20 February 2005 02:23 (twenty-one years ago)

i think the butter has to change color

daziz, Sunday, 20 February 2005 02:24 (twenty-one years ago)

you want to cook the THC *out* of the weed, so that it gets absorbed by the butter.

well, we're mixing the brownies now. some other website said only 20-30 minutes, which seemed way too short to me. When I learned how to do this in college I remember it being better the longer you cooked it - we will see....

correct.4 hours on very low heat is a good rule of thumb.

I learned to just cook it until the butter was completely clarified. It's worked rather well that way, so far.

You can smoke pot I hear

I've never cooked with weed before. You don't just chuck the weed (ground up, one assumes) into the mix before cooking? You have to cook it into the butter? Seems like an awful lot of hard work.

Tho yeah this one time I ate pot CAKE oh man, it was a whole new thing. So I don't blame you. It's just y'know if it's getting tricky, screw it.

2 rules: Use a coffee grinder to get it really powdery and then cook it as low as your stove allows for as long as you can, or at least until the neighbours come by and complain about the smell.

jergïns, Monday, 15 October 2007 23:37 (eighteen years ago)

The only prob with eating the herb is it's harder to figure out how much to dine on, since it takes so long to kick in and once the high hits it's so much more intense and longer lasting than a smoked stone. Earlier this summer I ate brownies on Sunday and was baked at work all Monday.

Oilyrags, Monday, 15 October 2007 23:55 (eighteen years ago)

Oh yeah, I think I've been more fucked up on pot brownies than anything ever.

Abbott, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 00:07 (eighteen years ago)

i was surprised at how much of a 'trip' it felt like. still nowhere near mushrooms, but so long-lasting and intense

jergïns, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 00:20 (eighteen years ago)

Ordinary brownies are good, too.

Aimless, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 00:28 (eighteen years ago)

I kind of think they're better.

Abbott, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 00:31 (eighteen years ago)

there's a guy who works at a hospice who brings brownies to shows when they wind up with a surplus. they knock me for a fucking loop.

there's also the cake lady who is pretty much a fixture in wicker park who sells muffins and cakes with some fairly decent pot. last time i saw her was when i was walking a friend home after a show, we ate our muffins (mine was carrot cake) and 10 minutes later we were sitting on the curb on division because crossing the street was way too complicated for us at that moment.
