Lock up those Spongebob/Buster Baxter Lovin' Tots! Teh Gayz are comin' again!

It's nice that fox is warning parents 20 zillion years after its premiere that the simpsons might contain, um, offensive(?) subject matter.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 21 February 2005 00:02 (twenty years ago)

I know, there is already a thread on this. I couldn't find one! And I just saw the official Fox *warning* on t.v.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 21 February 2005 00:03 (twenty years ago)

This is the gay marriage ep then, finally?

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 February 2005 00:08 (twenty years ago)

yes.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 21 February 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

i think lenny and carl are gonna get married.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 21 February 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

They should have an advisory for every episode nowadays, since they're all offensive anyway.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Monday, 21 February 2005 00:20 (twenty years ago)

I know who gets married, it got said on SNPP months ago (hint: it isnt lenny and carl).

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 February 2005 00:31 (twenty years ago)

Matt Groening gets married to a large pile of money.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 21 February 2005 00:49 (twenty years ago)

Hahah :)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 February 2005 00:54 (twenty years ago)

actually, my bad, they say *Viewer* discretion advised. they iz warning everybody.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 21 February 2005 01:00 (twenty years ago)

so are they gonna go back and put a viewer discretion on every episode with a "hello smithers, you're quite good at turn-ing me on!" joke?

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Monday, 21 February 2005 01:06 (twenty years ago)

"well, there goes the last remaining shred of my heterosexuality."

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Monday, 21 February 2005 01:09 (twenty years ago)

Don't forget the show itself used to have Marge or whoever come out and issue some kind of warning at the start of the initial Halloween eps. Whether that was a joke or not though I could never tell - they seemed to stop doing it after a few years.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 February 2005 01:09 (twenty years ago)

Justyn's got it worked out ;)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 February 2005 01:09 (twenty years ago)

the scene where homer makes out with himself was semi-disturbing!

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 21 February 2005 01:34 (twenty years ago)

Queerly beloved...

We're coming up on the one-year wedding anniversary of my mother and her wife. I still don't know if there's any legal validity to their union. They got married in Oregon.

Maria D. (Maria D.), Monday, 21 February 2005 01:45 (twenty years ago)

so who is writing/not writing on the simpsons this season that makes it so different?

teeny (teeny), Monday, 21 February 2005 01:50 (twenty years ago)

Is it really *that* different? I agree some recent seasons have had their weak, lame and outright bizarre-for-no-reason moments, but this season's not actually been too bad. I think its just that the show's been on so long now, we're expecting too much. I still enjoy the new eps tho.

We;re not getting this marriage one til April, though. Bums.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 February 2005 01:55 (twenty years ago)

there are still new episodes of the simpsons?

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Monday, 21 February 2005 01:57 (twenty years ago)

haha

Yes, often unfortunately.

The episode they played after the new one was much funnier.

Fish fingers all in a line (kenan), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:00 (twenty years ago)

These were the first two Simpsons episodes I've watched at 7 on Sunday in about two years, I think.

Fish fingers all in a line (kenan), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:00 (twenty years ago)

Now if only Futurama would get ressurected... *sigh*

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:01 (twenty years ago)

DUde K you would hate me - I watch the simpsons daily, and own all the DVDs also =)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:01 (twenty years ago)

futurama was boring as shit

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:02 (twenty years ago)

I wouldn't hate you! I love the first, oh, eight seasons with all my heart. It's just not very good anymore.

Question: a viewer discretion for gay marraige, but not for ambushing Jimmy Caan at a toll booth?

Fish fingers all in a line (kenan), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:02 (twenty years ago)

I'd expect that from you tho, so all is well with the world.

(xpost)_

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:03 (twenty years ago)

Yeh, Futurama was by and large terrible.

Fish fingers all in a line (kenan), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:03 (twenty years ago)

Not that I haven't watched about a hundred episodes of it. It is boring, though.

Fish fingers all in a line (kenan), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:04 (twenty years ago)

This new season is noticably different, there are new elements like the 'outtake' snippet over the credits, there is more outright cartoonishness (like barney zipping off like the roadrunner in tonight's ep), and there are either fewer jokes or more jokes are failing--it feels less dense somehow.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:04 (twenty years ago)

i have nothing *against* futurama exactly, it's just that the few times i was subjected to it (and i was *subjected* to it, by my simpsons-fanatic college roommate) i was totally bored and scarcely laughed at all.

i'm convinced that the simpsons occasionally achieved greatness *despite* matt groening.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:05 (twenty years ago)

How the fuck can you think Futurama is boring? There are so many layers of pop culture references, math geek jokes, physics jokes, ACCURATE physics, sly digs at all kinds of tv and movies and songs, clever overacrching story lines, brilliant voice acting (esp Billy West)... and BENDER I MEAN COME ON.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:05 (twenty years ago)

Ah now, see if youve only seen a bit that makes more sense, i didnt care for it at first either. But after a while... it hit me. I dunno. It is a lot better than the simpsons IMNSFHO.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:06 (twenty years ago)

Anyhoo we've trod this ground a billion times so I shoosh now.

Teeny: yeah I dont know who is writing these days but you're right, it does seem less dense somehow, that didnt strike me.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:07 (twenty years ago)

"imnsfho," is that finnish?

(hm, the pun "are you quite finnish?" suddenly popped into my head.)

xpost

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:07 (twenty years ago)

imnsfho = in my not so fuckin humble opinion ;)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:08 (twenty years ago)

i used to think futurama was great but i really can't watch any of those episodes more than once. whereas the best simpsons episodes are still funny after repeated viewings.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:18 (twenty years ago)

also anyone who thinks matt groening's sense of humor didn't contribute significantly to the simpsons needs to go read some old "life in hell" books.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:19 (twenty years ago)

i'm scared to go back and look at my life in hell books. i found them really funny as a teenager, but every "life in hell" installment i've read in the past 10 years has been a total dud.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:20 (twenty years ago)

x-post
Inflagrante delicto, J.D.
;-)

Un investigador del siglo XXI (AaronHz), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:24 (twenty years ago)

Futurama destroys The Simpsons 00-05. Wider scope plotwise, gagwise, generally fresher...

HYPNOTOAD
FRY EATING CEREAL OFF HIS OWN HEAD
"PATHETIC HUMANS, PREPARE TO WRITE DOWN THE RECIPE"

three reasons out of many

Sven Bastard (blueski), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:30 (twenty years ago)

"Man, this hippy is really starting to kick in! Woah... my hands are huge.. they can touch everything but themselves".

I love Lurr and Morbo.

WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY! GOODNIGHT!

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:38 (twenty years ago)

Argh Hypnotoad is the funniest thing ever. That new Simpsons tonight was awful.

adam (adam), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:40 (twenty years ago)

So I should be glad I missed it then?

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:45 (twenty years ago)

It probably depends on what you were doing instead but yes.

adam (adam), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:47 (twenty years ago)

I was on a date. We had tea and then watched Hotel Rwanda.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 21 February 2005 03:02 (twenty years ago)

What if I was at a Greek restaurant with my parents?

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 21 February 2005 03:07 (twenty years ago)

I want to know more about what happened in the episode, though, awful though it may have been. Did Patty "come out"?

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 21 February 2005 03:08 (twenty years ago)

I hope it was Bart.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 21 February 2005 03:10 (twenty years ago)

The best part was Homer making out with himself. Hott.

sugarpants (sugarpants), Monday, 21 February 2005 03:20 (twenty years ago)

Patty came out. Was going to get married. Marge was upset, despite being optherwise for gay marriage. Turns out the woman she loved was a man after all. She left him at the altar. All very lame.

But the episode where Bart finds the Play Dudes in the trash was great. All the pictures had been cut out, so all he learned about was how to have a swingin' pad and make references to the comedy stylings of Mort Sahl.

Fish fingers all in a line (kenan), Monday, 21 February 2005 03:33 (twenty years ago)

Izzit jus me or did tonight's simpsons have the whiff of homophobia about it?

The Argunaut (sexyDancer), Monday, 21 February 2005 04:51 (twenty years ago)

I'm pretty sure that Playdude/kitchen episode is only from a year or two ago. But I'm too lazy to check.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 21 February 2005 04:56 (twenty years ago)

Turns out the woman she loved was a man after all. She left him at the altar.

OMG WHAT A FUCKING COPOUT GROENING.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 February 2005 05:14 (twenty years ago)

OK now i am agreeing the show has gone to shit.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 February 2005 05:16 (twenty years ago)

I was watching Million Dollar Baby instead... The movie is about trust, and appropriately enough I don't trust The Simpsons lately. (*rimshot*)

Eric H. (Eric H.), Monday, 21 February 2005 05:33 (twenty years ago)

I thought that Playdude episode was last Nov or something...
I watched Monster instead of this.

Un investigador del siglo XXI (AaronHz), Monday, 21 February 2005 05:37 (twenty years ago)

"The Simpsons" has tried to go all "Family Guy" the past few seasons, and since the source material sucks, "The Simpsons" now sucks.

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Monday, 21 February 2005 06:50 (twenty years ago)

Actually I really liked this episode, and didn't think the ending was a copout at all. I mean, she's still gay. That's why she called the wedding off.

Also: http://www.springfieldisforgayloversofmarriage.com/ actually exists!

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 21 February 2005 08:06 (twenty years ago)

Just cuz I'd like more of you to read it:

It still exists!!!!!!!!! Protection of rights!!!! Stirring political speech!!!!! Who woulda thunk it?!?!?!

(Its not like the Simpsons have never been used to promote something else.)

peepee (peepee), Monday, 21 February 2005 13:02 (twenty years ago)

I thought the warning at the beginning, intentional or not, the doing of the producers or the network, was some EXTREME SATIRE.

Homer making out with himself seriously, SERIOUSLY freaked me out.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 21 February 2005 13:53 (twenty years ago)

Hee! Yeah, but classic nonetheless. I loved all the baby Homers running around while they passionately made out.

Nickalish, have you seen baby Clementine yet? You need to — she is TEH CUTENESS.

sugarpants (sugarpants), Monday, 21 February 2005 14:42 (twenty years ago)

Baby Homers making out? WTF did I miss?

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 21 February 2005 15:13 (twenty years ago)

Kingfish MuffMiner 2049er (Kingfish), Monday, 21 February 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

Oh clonie how I love you
I'm the only person I ever loved
Gee, that's swell
I guess you're just my fatal attraction-y
You're my clonie

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 21 February 2005 15:35 (twenty years ago)

haha

I think my favorite gag last night though was when somebody (Rev. Lovejoy maybe?) was talking about people with their matching pairs of hoohoos and hahas to which Nelson reliably replied "HAHA".

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 21 February 2005 15:49 (twenty years ago)

From: http://sympaticomsn.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/1108839529477_49?hub=Entertainment

"I think television is becoming obsessed with homosexuality. In fact I wouldn't put it past people to dig up reruns of Happy Days and have the Fonz come out as gay," said Robert Knight of Concerned Women for America.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 21 February 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)

I think television is becoming obsessed with homosexuality.
Gee, maybe if people would just treat them as regular people, there wouldn't be this obsession. < /downer>

Ha Ha!

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 21 February 2005 16:05 (twenty years ago)

*RALPH*

Deerninja B4rim4, Plus-Tech Whizz Kid (Barima), Monday, 21 February 2005 16:14 (twenty years ago)

Wait, make that:

*RALPHLING*

Deerninja B4rim4, Plus-Tech Whizz Kid (Barima), Monday, 21 February 2005 16:15 (twenty years ago)

Yes TV is totally obsessed with homosexuality. I can barely remember the last time I saw a heterosexual character on television. It's a disgrace.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 21 February 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

god this article is stupid. why do people act as if Smithers is not evidently gay?

Sven Bastard (blueski), Monday, 21 February 2005 18:43 (twenty years ago)

haha, I forgot about my other favorite part of this episode until helpfullly reminded by teh Drake Beardo:

BLOOD FOR CREAM
BLOOD FOR CREAM

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 21 February 2005 18:47 (twenty years ago)

Highlight of last night's Simpsons ...
-Apu in blonde wig
