Wrong on so many levels.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 February 2005 10:09 (twenty years ago)

Delete the words "gigantic statue of" and "in Trafalgar Square" and your comment would still be apposite.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 21 February 2005 10:20 (twenty years ago)

really?

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 21 February 2005 19:54 (twenty years ago)

Wait, you mean the Stereophonics clown?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 21 February 2005 19:55 (twenty years ago)

If only it was a statue of Kelly Taylor.

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Monday, 21 February 2005 20:01 (twenty years ago)

Or Kelly Monteith.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 22 February 2005 08:01 (twenty years ago)

I love Kelly Holmes. I don't think I want to see gigantic statues of her though, so I might avoid Trafalgar Square until it gets taken down (when will this be?)

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 10:12 (twenty years ago)

i wonder why they didn't erect a massive statue of Linford?

Sven Bastard (blueski), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 10:13 (twenty years ago)

Not soon enough for my liking. Its kind of terrifying. God knows what sort of effect its going to have on unsuspecting drug users. Kind of inconsiderate of the Olympic commission not to take that into account, really.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 10:13 (twenty years ago)

Does it really look as bad as this then?

NickB (NickB), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 10:22 (twenty years ago)

Worse.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 10:22 (twenty years ago)

Oh I thought you meant kelly brook

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 13:43 (twenty years ago)

why does Marcello hate Kelly Holmes anyway? I'm trying to think of a reason why and am not coming up with anything.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 13:57 (twenty years ago)

maybe he doesn't like ex-army lesbians

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 13:58 (twenty years ago)

come now he's not Calum.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 14:01 (twenty years ago)

Could be worse, could be a gigantic statue of Ellen McArthur

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 14:02 (twenty years ago)

how about Katie Holmes?

Sven Bastard (blueski), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

Now you're talking

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

It's got to be better than Eamonn Holmes.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 22 February 2005 14:16 (twenty years ago)

Any statue, on any scale, of Eamonn Holmes could properly be described as gigantic

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 14:18 (twenty years ago)

Until I saw that picture of the hugely tacky and a little bit camel-toed Traf Square colossus, I was naively imagining it'd be something more like this sculpture of Brighton's finest...

NickB (NickB), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

before turning him to stone Troglen the Celtic God of common decency tore off most of Eavis's clothes for desecrating the fields of Avalon with dross like Razorlight

Sven Bastard (blueski), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 15:06 (twenty years ago)

Ha! Always though it was more like Larry Grayson myself.

NickB (NickB), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 15:13 (twenty years ago)

A gigantic statue of Larry Grayson in Trafalgar Square would be something to behold... and celebrate

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

Mike Reid

Oh God, that's actually it?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 02:25 (twenty years ago)

i think the olypic committe will be impressed by that really crappy tent - especially those higgledy piggledy temporary railings.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 02:33 (twenty years ago)

I read this thread title a few times over today as "That Gigantic Statue Of Katie Holmes in Trafalgar Square," and right now I'm trying to figure out why that didn't seem odd to me any of those times.

It's mesmerising. I don't know why I had to take all these pics but I couldn't not.

beanz (beanz), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 11:00 (twenty years ago)

Is it me or does the statue ahve cameltoe in that last pic

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 11:13 (twenty years ago)

The statue does. I can't see yours from here.
hohohoho

beanz (beanz), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 11:33 (twenty years ago)

OMG behold the Behemoth! That statue has just put me off sport for life.

Also, and this is a bit sad that I spotted this, but if that flag is wrapped around her and we're looking at the back of it, then I think it's actually been hung upside down. An omen perhaps? Has this snake-eyed Goliath been summoned by dark forces to wreak havoc on the denizens of Londoncestershire? Will this giantess beat a path of destruction through the streets of Westminster, sucking up fleeing innocents and pulverizing them in her outsize lycra-clad lady-flaps?

NickB (NickB), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 11:37 (twenty years ago)

Yes

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 12:13 (twenty years ago)

wow, that's truly terrible...enough reason for london to be passed over for the bid, surely?

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 12:30 (twenty years ago)

It looks like a giant evil crow woman bearing down on everyone. EE URP!

alix (alix), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 12:33 (twenty years ago)

Maybe they put her in Trafalgar Square so that if she were to run amok the lions could protect us all. (Although I think the boy in the last pic might have something to worry about.)

beanz (beanz), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 12:39 (twenty years ago)

Saw two documentaries on child-rearing (?) and she was in both of them. The first time she seemed quite nice. The second one as well. But in the second one she realized she couldn't combine bringing up a child with having a career, so she had to rely on people and basically leave her child for longer periods while she was in London for her career. It seemed a bit of catastrophe and the child did seem to suffer from it. I don't know, on the one hand I admire her but then I do wonder about she exploiting her handicap in order to get ahead.

nathalie doing a soft foot shuffle (stevie nixed), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 12:43 (twenty years ago)

"Why am I so massive?"

(xpost)

alix (alix), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 12:44 (twenty years ago)

hahaha

Sven Bastard (blueski), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 12:58 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha, classic!

Dadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 12:59 (twenty years ago)

is it me or is it a bit wrong to have the phrase "child rearing" and a picture of michael jackson on the same thread.

s_____x, Wednesday, 23 February 2005 13:09 (twenty years ago)

Like a 90 foot Kelly Holmes isn't wrong enough???!!?

Dadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 13:10 (twenty years ago)

oh jesus, there's a completely and totally unintentional and utterly revolting double entendre in my previous post.
all i meant was that it might attract the wrong kind of googling

s_____x, Wednesday, 23 February 2005 13:14 (twenty years ago)

forget i said anything. yes the kelly holmes statue is wrong, michael jackson is plain wrong and, hell, i never even though that kelly homes had kids, what with her being what the tabloid press terms "unmarried" and all that.

s_____x, Wednesday, 23 February 2005 13:16 (twenty years ago)

She was pulled down on Monday with all due dignity and ceremonial. Including the guys in fluorescent jackets taking photos of each other pretending to pull down her kecks.

beanz (beanz), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 13:06 (twenty years ago)

Why did they give her such nasty hair? I mean, if they were attempting to evoke her triumphant mad-staring-eyes 2nd gold medal performance, then surely her cornrows would actually have been easier to represent than a plastic minifig barnet? Mystery upon mystery.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 13:15 (twenty years ago)

I suspect they made the wrong head. Some wealthy private individual had their own statue made by the same company that did this and the heads got switched in the warehouse. Some vain idiot has a 70' statue of herself wandering around her back garden but with the head of Kelly.

beanz (beanz), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 13:30 (twenty years ago)

The Kelly Holmes hate on this thread makes me sad.

Ferlin Husky (noodle vague), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 13:34 (twenty years ago)

haha i have just seen the new footage of her going to meet the Queen. she was wearing the running gear and i like the idea of her just wearing that all the time, medals around her neck, you know, running down to the newsagents every morning, queuing at the post office etc.

Sven Bastard (blueski), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 14:05 (twenty years ago)

I didn't see a statue, but I did see a kind of igloo.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 14:25 (twenty years ago)

I don't hate her, noodle. I was just confused by the statue and happened to be there when it was dismantled.

beanz (beanz), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

Didn't mean you beanz, some of the posts higher up were unnecessary.

Ferlin Husky (noodle vague), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 21:10 (twenty years ago)

That MJ pic redeemed the whole thread for real.

Deerninja B4rim4, Plus-Tech Whizz Kid (Barima), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

I still miss the real Michael Jackson...

Girolamo Savonarola, Wednesday, 9 March 2005 23:36 (twenty years ago)

In this pic:

ihttp://onfinite.com/libraries/344764/4bb.jpg

one of the rowers (?) appears to have a head that's simply a bunch of flowers.
