Reviewer: A 12-year old viewer from USA this movie is da bomb! it has great dancers (who r not to metion cute) sweet songs, it has some historical facts and humor. most people think they wouldent like it because its a musical, Thats NOT true i like the songs and dances espesialy "king of new york".

There are 357 reviews of this film on amazon.com, they all read about like this.

I haven't seen it since it first came out. It excited the hellout of me. Singing! Dancing! Newspapers! Headlines don't sell papes! NEWSIES sell papes!

Christian Bale sells papers.

My head hurts. Is there a Swing Kids cult too?

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 2 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yes.

Josh, Monday, 3 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hm.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 3 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

four years pass...
I tried to convince someone Jay-Z should have sampled Newsies' "King of New York" for his song of the same name. Two songs sampling musicals about orphans...it could have been colossal.

Has anyone seen HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL, Kenny Ortega's musical follow-up to Newsies?

Abbott (Abbott), Saturday, 8 July 2006 21:42 (nineteen years ago)

yes, it was sadly lame.

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 8 July 2006 21:52 (nineteen years ago)

It doesn't have Teddy Roosevelt in it, I know that much for sure. one point for Newsies.

Abbott (Abbott), Saturday, 8 July 2006 22:09 (nineteen years ago)

teddy brosevelt!

OMG! It all makes sense now! (HSM's soundtrack is the biggest selling album of the year in America.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 8 July 2006 22:14 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I think it was a wise move on Disney's part to make it a Disney Channel thing rather than release it in theatres, for the channel contains their cult. Cult of people who could potentially appreciate Ortega.

Abbott (Abbott), Saturday, 8 July 2006 22:16 (nineteen years ago)

Ortega didn't direct Xanadu did he? Or did he?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 8 July 2006 22:23 (nineteen years ago)

He did the choreography!

Abbott (Abbott), Saturday, 8 July 2006 22:26 (nineteen years ago)

He also did the choreography in the other two.

Abbott (Abbott), Saturday, 8 July 2006 22:27 (nineteen years ago)

the music in high school musical is pretty awful.

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 8 July 2006 22:28 (nineteen years ago)

He did the choreography!

He's a better man than any of us.

HSM I have to appreciate on a conceptual level just because I was Mayor Shinn in 11th grade for The Music Man. (Yes, I have a videotape. No it is not on YouTube. YET.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 8 July 2006 22:29 (nineteen years ago)

Anyway, Abbott, I have to congratulate you for an excellent nearly-five-years-after-the-fact self-started thread revive. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 8 July 2006 22:32 (nineteen years ago)

The first go-round was a bust because I did not summon the Ortega.

Abbott (Abbott), Saturday, 8 July 2006 22:34 (nineteen years ago)

one year passes...

Deep within a story:

Disney is also working on a stage version of the 1992 musical movie “Newsies,” to be licensed to high school and amateur groups.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 20 December 2007 06:17 (seventeen years ago)

two weeks pass...

I saw High School Musical and it was acceptable. If every song/dance routine was good as "Stick to What You Know" (IIRC) it would be 1/4 the movie Newsies is. As it stands, it is a mere 1/10.

I would love to see a stage production of Newsies! Or be in one but there are not any parts for women.

Abbott, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 21:58 (seventeen years ago)

i saw high school musical and i thought the songs sucked.

s1ocki, Thursday, 10 January 2008 15:10 (seventeen years ago)

three years pass...

there is a bloody Newsies singalong screening at a Park Slope bar next Friday

you call it trollin' i call it steamrollin' (Dr Morbius), Friday, 22 July 2011 15:58 (fourteen years ago)

In that you're going to go down there and cause grievous bodily harm?

Ned Raggett, Friday, 22 July 2011 16:00 (fourteen years ago)

I don't care enough, never having subjected myself to it.
